    Mornin' everyone.

    Good "boring" 6 yesterday, Aamos.

Good stationary bike and core workouts, Leslie. Be careful out there ion the bike on the Flats. I like Steve's idea of looking for a tree-repellent.

Welcome back to the 5-mi. mute, Tet. Good way to break in a pair of 1997 running shoes. Now put them back in the closet.

Good 4-fer, Holly. If castor oil (and/or the heating pad) works, stick with it.

Glad you could squeeze in 5 on one of those long work days, C-R. I hope the project ends successfully and soon.

Good 6.4 run, Larry. What a project helping to sell that car was! You're very patient - for an old guy.

Good luck to you and the clown with the new coaching career, Tammy! Thanks for volunteering at the Pine to Palm 100 tomorrow.

Hi Monday! Welcome back to running and to the forum. Good luck with the C25K program and the new Hokas.

Excellent 22-miler in the H&H, Twocat. Sorry about being stuck in a monkey suit today, but you'll do great.

I hope you made it through the loooong day and were able to squeeze a workout in, Evanflein.

Good 3.5 with 2 at RP, Starr. I hope your leg doesn't cause you any grief between now and Sunday.

Good coaching tips, Mike, even if some is reinforcement of what T. already knows.

I think my presentation went well yesterday. Based on what a couple of people who went before me said, I decided at the last minuted to expand my focus just a bit, so I wound up having to ad-lib. I thought I could have done better, but a few folks gave me some nice comments afterwards, so I guess it wasn't too bad. I also reestablished some good contacts, and made a couple of new ones, so it was all worthwhile - except for having to wear "long-sleeve shorts."

5.2 RW miles this morning in ugly weather: 69F, 98% humidity, dewpoint at 70, and barely a breeze. It was my 1st workout in some new shoes (Topo ST-2), and I like them a lot: lightweight (6 oz), with a smidg of cushioning and lots of flexibility, and with a zero drop which is great for racewalking. They also give me great road feel, which I like too. So, do I wear these for my 8K race tomorrow afternoon? I think so.

Have a greta Friday! I wish fleet feet, a tailwind, and big grins to everyone racing this weekend!

    Jay

Without ice cream there would be darkness and chaos.

    Marathon Maniac #957

Morning, Jay and all to follow!

So, I used one of my "Free Passes" and went to the YMCA this morning to swim.  I have not ever been a good swimmer, and have not actually done real swimming in years. (Standing around in the water throwing a Frisbee with the kids doesn't count.)  Anyway, I swam 20 laps, resting at the edge for a minute or two in between each.  Boy, I have no stamina at all.  Then I got a belt and did 20 minutes or so of pool running.  I figured I should stop with that workout - didn't want to do too much the first time in the pool.  I still felt kind of wobbly when I got out.

So, I bit the bullet and signed up for a family membership.  Turns out that since DH works for the county, it's only about $53/month - not too bad, as long as we use it.  The Y is only 5 minutes from my house, so I don't have many excuses....

DH and I took the day off because we are supposed to have a golf outing with our friend Dan and his wife.  Dan is a dentist, so he has every Friday off. Not sure how it will go, since we have 50% chance of rain all day.  Afterward, Dan is cooking us dinner at his house and some other friends will arrive for that.

      Happy Friday!

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

      Sayhey! MM#130

YAY!  Holly's taking a day off!!!  Enjoy!

O no, someone's retiring in Erika's domain--hope this doesn't mean an increased workload for you.

Glad you liked that book, Starr.  I just got it back from my boss, who also read it.  I've read that author you mentioned--lived in MN for a bit, and so it was a while ago.  You might like Our Souls at Night (Vintage Contemporaries).   It's less than 200 pages, and the protagonists are at least as old as most of us.  Going to be a movie soon, too.

Takes place in a small Colorado town the author has written about in other novels.

Upped my production to 6.25 this am.

Have a commemorative race for 9-11 tomorrow.  Here's a blurb: The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, established in memory of a fallen 9/11 firefighter, whose mission is to honor and support first responders and the military, will hold its inaugural Tunnel to Towers 5K Run/Walk in Fort Myers on Saturday, September 10, 2016.

The event will honor and celebrate Southwest Florida’s first responders—fire, police, EMT’s, paramedics—as well as military service heroes who serve, sacrifice and protect us every day.

Given how EMTs saved DH's life, I'm a sucker for anything honoring those folks.  And I get to run!

Welcome Monday!  (yer right Steve: that feels odd, to write that!)

I think Jay especially feels the pain of being "in a monkey suit" given his pants experience, two cat.  Impressive long run.  I gave up at 18 last week (wanted 20, but wanted to stop sweating more!) and we'll see what happens next week.

Kudos to Tammy and all the coaches.  And car sellers.  And barefoot runners donning shoes.  Wait,

Even tho it was a short week, I am READY for the weekend to land this afternoon!!

        Best to all!!  grins,

        A

Five sunny ‘muting miles sine shoes getting ready for a sunnier weekend.
However, with no races scheduled this weekend to provide the necessary incentive,

might just end up pickin’  blackberries and seeing what more’s in the garage.

However, thanks amy, a 9/11 commemorative

run would be worth it even if on my own.

            Hey Everyone,

I feel like such a butthead. I totally forgot to congratulate Wild's DD on the wedding. Happy life together to the bride and groom.

Holly - swimming is tough. I started that when healing up. Its a great workout but man is it tough. Keep it up though and hope you enjoy the golf today.

Amy - 10k a day keeps the blues away.

Blackberry picking reminds me of summers at my grandmothers in upstate NY. Have fun tet.

Not surprised you meeting went well Jay. You always seem to have a great attention to detail in here and that's something appreciated out there.

I ran 4 today at a slightly quicker pace. Feeling more confident. XC racing season was announced and although I won't be competitive I am so looking forward to these events. Plus I get to race with Patrick. Well at least be at the starting line together.

            Have a great one.

            Cheers.

5 miles last evening. Rest day today. I'm getting really excited for race day next week. I'm even more excited about training for next year's race. This year is more of a crewing venture for hubby but next year I'm going to attempt to earn my first buckle. Taper madness indeed. ☺

Yay, Holly hit the pool! I don't usually (ever) swim, but do the pool running these days. I was thinking today I should probably sign up for a remedial swimming class to get a reminder on proper form and all. But I probably won't. Be sure to use that membership!

Amy, she's not retiring she's resigning. She found another job. This place was driving her insane. And yes, my workload will be worse, but the problem is she's an IT/Systems specialist and helped me by doing things I know nothing about (and shouldn't need to, not my job... but I depend on her!). So, it'll be an interesting few months, that's for sure.

Today is Forgetful Friday, apparently. I forgot my flotation belt today, and when we went to the gym I forgot my purse/phone. So on his way out of the gym (next door to the pool), DH realized he forgot his watch and his belt. We decided "Forgetful Friday" was the reason, but a heads up would've been nice. I used a floaty noodle at the pool, and while it wasn't great it did allow me to get a 22 minute pool-run in. Will have to do.

Good for you hitting the pool, Holly.

                  Oooohh. Tet has blackberries.

I feel for you Erika. Next Tuesday, a part time assistant is supposed to start. Again. I hope I don't break another one.I found out that one of my frustration/complaint letters to a supplier was used as an example at their last meeting. The subject line was, "Are you TRYING to kill me?".
