Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."
The plan sounds great for our runs together. No serious training for a few weeks for me. "Play, recover, and run as you wish (just don't race)" is what Coach Mary told me. All good.
I wonder how Slimbo did in his marathon? Wasn't that this past Sunday (yikes in the heat) I am probably missing others too.---Just saw your post and plan....hope that works and sorry about fickle Mother Nature! Good luck!---OOps....spoke too soon Slimbo. I Loved Wineglass last year and hope you will too!

Quick update -- the weather Gods turned against me [and 10,000 others] ... I would say about 5 mintues before the gun the winds shifted from the East [blowing off the 54 degree water was like being in the A/C -- so it was like 58 degrees ... to from the West and temps went up about 15 degrees in 5 seconds -- bizarre how fast it changed. The humidity was up -- it was into the 80's by mile 5 -- I ran in a hat and gloves earlier this week ... ultimately I DNF'd -- I ran the 1/2 in about 1:40 and then put it in Park. I wasn't going to BQ with a 3:20 -- so I kept the powder dry. I gave myself the ride home to reflect; curse a bit and then get over it. I ended up making my daughers track meet to see her run her first 400 -- so things happen for a reason.
I have a 13 day plan ... I am going to see how this week goes and then determine if I am going to give it another shot @ Pocono Mnt Marathon. [This will be determined on [1] how my wife reacts to this when I tell her this evening and [2] how I feel that I am running this week.] If it doesn't work out, then I am going to run Wineglass on Oct 3 and try it again. [I have 2- 5 milers and an 8k scheduled for the next 6-7 weeks so I have plenty to keep me occupied.] I just find doing volume over the summer to be a grind -- I like the cold weather -- at 215lbs I just have a big engine that heats up.]
So -- to recap -- this week is as follows:
m -- sleep
tues - 8.7 miles
Wed - 5.5 miles [abandon Pocono marathon -- signing up for Wineglass in the Fall.]
Th - off / easy couple
Fri - 6.1 miles
Sat - 10.5 miles [with 6 x 20 sec strides]
Sun - 5.71 miles [medium]
Total -- 38.3 miles
2012= under-goaled

Thanks Holly,
This week finds Runrwife and myself getting ready to jet off to Ft Collins for a little running and a five day weekend. She has decided to run the 10K. I'm looking for her to be close to a PR. Ssshhh don't tell her..
Mon: 6 miles - 7.0 miles at an easy recovery pace. Tues: 7 miles Wed: 8 miles w/ 2@MP Thurs: 6 miles Fri: 5 miles (Fly to FT. Collins, Co) Sat: 4 miles Sun: 26.2 miles (Colorado Marathon)

A good, if challenging run. 13.1 miles at 8:48 pace. The repeats run at paces:
7:36, 7:42, 7:41, 7:32, 7:40, 7:33, 7:37, 7:31, 7:32, 7:23, 7:28, 7:36, and 7:27.
11 miles EZ, then 6 miles at MP, 1 mile cool down.
.MP miles were run at 8:36, 8:23, 8:26, 8:17, 8:10, and 8:19
18 miles overall at exactly 9 minute mile pace.
Finally! I'm able to hit 50 miles (barely). Can't remember the last time ...

Holly, I will probably be under 40 miles for a few weeks. I am making progress, but it is slow. I am trying to limit my running to an hour at a time, so I will probably be in the 30's for most of this month.
I'll be back, and thanks!
MTA: Tough break, Slimbo. Good luck at Pocono. I am planning on Wineglass so if you run it we'll see you there.
Not at it at all.

Thanks Holly. Just as you're starting your run with Karin, be sure to ask a complicated question that will require a long, detailed response on her part. Getting her talking (while you focus on breathing) is your only hope. Good luck.
This warm weather's been killing me. Totally sluggish, sweaty miles even though I'm going slowly. Rather than fight it, I think I'll just write off this week as a slow acclimation week. I'm hitting the trails for some fun runs, too.

Fun at the track, which I never do. 4x400 w/200 jogs. Have to learn how to set up the Garmin for this. I messed it up completely and did each manually: 1:33, 1:35, 1:34, 1:33.
