Marathon Maniac #957
For those of you who are new, this is the 40/40 thread, for people who are over 40 years old who run 40 miles/week or more. We give Free Passes to those who come really close or try really hard...
Here’s what I have for last week’s tally.
Trail running in torrential rain – pretty scary
That’s a long LR
Dealing with tornado aftermath
Super-busy, but still running
Plus lots of swimming
Here’s my tentative plan for the week.
Upper weights and core
Another Dam 50K
P90X chest and back, squats and core
Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."
Thanks Holly! Here's the scheduled plan for the week...
49:13 + crunches and stretches
49:50 + crunches and stretches
48 minutes of weights and crunches
49:29 + walls sit, crunches, and stretches
25 minutes of weights and crunches
1:14:44 + squats and stretches
2:44:06 + squats and stretches
Not much of a plan this week and I had hoped to hit 40 but it was smarter to back off.
maybe run, maybe not
Court in a.m.
5.3 miles fartlek
LR, about 12.25 miles
5.8 miles easy
AT & calf issue
storm cleanup & other yard work
"This is my approach as both athlete and coach: (quoting Steve Magness) Even if the training is perfect, if you don't buy into it, you will not run fast. Chase Consistency, Not Perfection." Neely Spence Gracey
Thanks, Holly. And congrats on the 50K!
When I glanced at it quickly, I read Mike's Monday entry as "crutches and stretchers." Oh no!
Easy week for me. Gonna be a hot one.
Good race. 10K PR 44:41. Still soft.
M - 8 miles

Mon: Memorial Day 4 miler (23:58), w/ 1 mile warmupTue 10.2 mi (1:22)Wed 12.2 (1:38)Thu 10.2 mi (1:22)Fri 10.2 mi (1:24)Sat 0Sun 7.2 mi (0:59)Total: 55 miles ( 7 hrs 21 min )Memorial Day 4 miler was a small local race, less than a 1,000 runners and walkers. My goal was to break 24 min and that's what I got, so I'm happy. The amusing part is thatif I ran, say, 24:01 it would be the same exact time and pace, but I would not be happy.I got 2nd age group, and 25th overall, finishing just behind the 1st woman, whoturned out to be only 15 years old. She outkicked me in the last 200mand she did look young, but 15 is pretty amazing
