Have you gotten any PR’s already this year too, especially in your favorite, otherwise daunting half mary’s that keep getting slower and slower for the rest of us?  Good luck on this year’s marathons too. You really should let francesca, dove, opie, coastwalker or other half-fanatic members herein sponsor you for the half-fanatic membership you deserve with them too.

Belated thanks for your idea for me to see if some of the training I’ve been eschewing for 37 years as a recreational fitness runner just running marathons and ultras on their own to stay/get in shape might help counter the seeming demise of my running career, all-of-a-sudden becoming a six-hour-and-more marathoner when I once vowed to quit running them altogether if they ever started taking more than five hours.

Though I wasn’t the best pupil, your recommendation made me recall the modified Pfitz plan Coach DiveChief cobbled for me to achieve the exact 4hr/30min finish we’d been talking about for the Boomer reunion at the 2006 Portland Marathon.  However, while I’ve been becoming slower-and-slower with opposite land PR-after-PR year-after-year ever since then, you’ve been getting faster-and-faster setting multiple PR’s after PR every year since. What’s your secret?

Not that I can ever become like you again or anything like that but I started off the new year with more training runs (4) and more training miles (15) than all of the last four years combined, mostly walked a marathon in Japan in 7hr/20min and, though I eschew winter running, I have even entered a local 50K this weekend.  I won’t be able to run much of the way, if any, but am kind of secretly thinking of it as a test of the extensive walking that will be necessary in case I screw up enough courage to enter some of the longer events my unwillingness to train has made me afraid of before but which might now put any training I end up doing this year to good use.    Somehow, even though I might fail, I don't care as getting older is seeming to make me even more fearless than before.

Okay, since Tet and arf are listing the Tunnel marathon I guess I can, too - even though registration isn't open yet so no guarantees we'll get a spot...   it's being held on 7/14 (arf is correct!)  which is my shared birthday with Mariposai, who will be turning 50 (shhh!)   that day!  So I hope to go have a fun birthday party with her!   I know Dove and Mike E were thinking about this race, too - who else wants to join the party?
