    Mornin' everyone.

Welcome back to running, Tselbes, and nice job by you and DW on the canning.

Doesn't sound like a fun way to work up a sweat, Stumpy.

"...Pickles has used me as Slave Labor for YEARS tet............" I saw that one coming.

Nice job of escorting your GS to his 1st day of 2nd grade, Tet. Nice celebration (and eating) on the boat too.

I'm glad you're having a good time with your GS too, Marj.

That's a dang good meal deal for $30, Holly. There's no supermarket anywhere around here that does anything like that. Nice 3-miler too. I hope that knee stays intact.

I hope you have a good visit with your and Jodi's friends, Aamos. I also want to know how you know Fall is in the air? And can you send some of that air up here?

Evanflein, I'm glad you're keeping moving while trying to quash a rebellion of the foot.

"a friend of mine thinks men are going to become superfluous in the future and that people will end up just growing test tube babies that are female" Twocat, I read, several decades ago, a prediction that we're going to evolve to just heads, controlling electronics and robots with brain waves such that it is our bodies that will become superfluous and will gradually whither away. I think we're on our way.

You sure know how to party, Steve. And stop breaking the supervisors!

I had to skip my workout yesterday to get up early to prepare for an early meeting. I went out this morning for an easy 3+ mi. RW workout. I have a 10K at 6 tonight, so my goal was just to get loose and follow it up with a lot of stretching. It looks like the temps are going to be in the mid-upper 80s for the race, with mostly clear skies. As a cool weather racer, I'm gonna die. This is a race I need to do for our local series, so my first goal is just to finish. If I can place well among the walkers, that'll be great, but I'm not counting on it.

    Have a greta Thursday!

    Jay

Without ice cream there would be darkness and chaos.

Hang in there with those temps, Jay.  I start to suffer once it gets much about 75.

Hope your week is going well.  I finally ran this morning!  Day before yesterday I did a 30-min bike workout.  Tomorrow I'll get out for another 6 in the early a.m., then I'm leaving to volunteer at the Waldo 100k outside of Eugene, OR.  This is probably the last year I'll be volunteering as the race is getting taken over by a for-profit group.  Hope it continues on, but not sure how the "soul" of it will be.  Anyway, Saturday we get to trudge about 2.5 miles up a mountain side with about 50+ pounds of aid station gear and food on our backs.  That'll be my workout for the weekend!

Work = Stress = I'm Trying to Not Become a Stress Eater = I'm Turning into a Carrot in My Efforts to Stay a Healthy Eater When I'm Stress-Eating.

That's about it.  If I don't get back in here before I leave tomorrow, have a fantastic weekend ~~

Have fun in Eugene, Leslie! That's too bad that Waldo is going 'for-profit'.   That would discourage me from volunteering too. I prefer to pretty much stick to non profit races - whether running or volunteering. that's why most of my stuff is either with my local running group, or races put on here that go towards our community - like school's running programs, scholarships, etc.

I was dressed to go running after work yesterday while David played tennis, but opted to play tennis instead. It's open play on MWF evenings organized by David's coach, so anyone can play. There were a few that showed up that play at more of my level of play. Usually it's wicked good tennis players that are there, so I never stick around because I wouldn't even be able to return a serve.

long day today - working til 3:30, then volunteering at county fair from 4-11. David's HS has a concession stand there - grilled burgers/fries - and today is the day the tennis team receives all proceeds, so the tennis team and some parents staff it all day. 105-107 today too. oh joy.

        Trails are hard!

Great day for grill duty, Tammy.  Hydrate, Hydrate.....repeat.

There was a rumor of an early departure from site for a couple of us.  It was quashed quickly this morning and now am hoping that I'll be able to stick to the original scheudle.   I at least get to stay in the AC for some of my stuff.  I feel bad for the guys that have to be out in the sun at the loading station, standing on and surrounded by concrete (in full coveralls).  they are going through a LOT of water.  But it's only 90° today.

The supermarket dinner sounds like something that Wegmans would do.  But there aren't any close enough to us to see.

Peach salsa does sound good.  Mix a few jalepanos in for some heat to go with the sweet?

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

The ultras I volunteer at are for profit - the RD makes his living with this business.  I don't mind supporting him because he's created a great ultra community - that's a big part of his mission.  Also, I get a free race entry for being an aid station captain.

It's raining today, so not sure if I can fit in a run around the thunderstorms, but I'll try.

I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.

true Carolyn - I don't mind supporting those types of races either. heck, that's what WRR is - local RD who does a few of these relay races for a living. but a lot of the money generated also goes to support local things - like our special olympic organization. I can totally be on board with supporting that type of "for profit".  I'm just not a fan of the big profit making races like color runs, rock-n-rolls, etc.

                 105-107 today too. oh joy.

My, that IS a bit on the warm side.  However, I make it a rule never to complain about the heat, since I really really hate the frigid wintertime and would take H&H any day over that.  Of course, I have been barely running in it this summer, so it hasn't really been a factor...

3.6 miles for me this morning.  So, another weird thing, now the ball of my left foot hurts after running.  Doesn't hurt at all WHILE running, but later it does.  Same leg as hamstring issue.  I don't think my foot is landing any differently than the other - I was watching for it today.  Oh well.

                5 more weeks of summer!

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Thankfully we only have H, not H&H here.
gosh, I am feeling so much more joyful now!

                  Tammy

Hey folks - and I'm glad that Holly is enjoying this heat and humidity, because I HATE it! The temps have been hovering in the 90's with dew points of 70+   Give me the cold weather (she said cautiously) any time. You can always put more clothes on - you can only take so many off! And unlike some of my much younger friends at RA, no one wants to see a 64 year-old woman running in a sports bra and shorts!   We need rain so badly and it looks like relief will be coming this weekend. Right now, I feel sorry for the GB Packer players who have a game to play tonight. It'll be brutal on that field!

Thanks for the great recap Jay.

Steve - would the salary as a supervisor be worth working an 18-hour shift? Loved your comments about MD20/20 and "aromatic smells"! We put away a few bottles of that stuff back in the day as well. Also Boones Farm Apple Wine. Is anyone old enough to remember that?

Played 18 holes of golf with DH this morning and did pretty well - several pars and even a birdie on a par 3! Then went to the AIR CONDITIONED Y and ran 4 miles on the treadmill and did some core stuff.

Wow - what do you all think about the American swimmers and the mess they're in now? How could they be stupid enough to lie about being held up at gunpoint?

And does anyone need any tomatoes? Please????

                      Holly,

i agree with you. I try not to complain about the heat as I hate when it gets real cold. I remember Erika posting a picture from a run going by a university I believe and the actual temp on the sign read -30. You can't put on enough layers for that kinda stuff.

3.6 for me today , tomorrow is a SRD and I think I'm ready for one. Next week will be a taper week in preparation for my 10 mile race next Saturday. I have no lofty goals but would like to run a decent time. I really haven't been doing any speed work mostly base building so anything under 90 minutes will be fine. Then a couple weeks before I start my marathon training cycle. It's going to be tough finding time during the holidays because of my job. October through Christmas is crazy busy. I'm so busy my wife usually leaves for a month to visit the grand kids around that time. I'm not home much anyway.

                        Larry, you mean like this?

                        Or this?

Luckily, we haven't had conditions like that for awhile...

I ran today! 5.4 miles, foot felt good at first and then got kind of sore, but never got bad like before. Progress, slowly but progress nonetheless!

Jlynne I just got home and saw that one of the swimmers sure is in hot water. One high tailed it to the US before he could be stopped. The news says two others have just been sent or given permission to leave. One . . . they seem to be after. There is a video of the whole incident at the gas station. All you say is drunk + late + young = rocks for brains.

Something the American swimmers in Brazil should have listened to before departing for Rio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOlcDBXKhSU. Great song by the way!

For CT as of late this morning's running weather was not bad. The dew point was "only" 69°. I took advantage of that and ran 14 before spending a looooong day at work. No real incentive for me to do otherwise. DW is away on business. No reason to rush home.

Live like you are dying not like you are afraid to die.

                            Larry, you mean like this?

                            . . Or this?

Yep erika, next to rosie's running skirt, those are my two favorite pictures.

However, Holly, Wildchild and Henry/Marj have had ones

I like too that should have been on magazine covers. .

Growing up down in the rainbelt southeast of erika-land that produces luscious, i.e. wet, beautiful Sitka spruce forests and thousands of rivers and streams ensuring a perpetual production of delicious wild salmon and trout, . . . to say nothing of easily accessible alpine meadows and glaciers within a running hour of downtown, I truly do not believe i have ever complained about the weather. In fact, since we were used to it, we used to relish foul weather when it was our turn to host the state ski championships.

                            .

Nevertheless, though I broke my no-glove rule for the Seattle Marathon at the 2006 Boomer reunion, anything requiring tights is still reserved for skiing so no winter running with erika.   On the other hand, nothing is too hot, too humid or too wet for me.  I haven't been tested by months on end of it as some are experiencing but I've loved 'em every time I've encountered them so far.

                            .

Incidentally, even I don;t get to to it much, if at all, is it okay now to whine about HHH?

Let's see how many whines we can get tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I've got a two mile out-and-back to Mary's Falls

on the agenda so no whining possible for that one.

                            .
