Finally Friday, May 28 Running and Traveling (Read 543 times)

Enke - We call those a "crotch rocket."

Any of you folks doing strength training use a BOSU?  I stand on it for almost all of my upper body free weight exercises, use it for my calf raises, forward lunges, squats, and ankle strengthening, and use it for 3 or 4 specific core workouts.  There are ton of other exercises for which it can be used.  It's a very versatile piece of equipment that doesn't take up a lot of room.

    Tim - Love the quote.

Roch - Great run!  Nothin' like a pair of good lookin' wimmin to get you guys going, huh?

Rest day for me, but 18 trail miles on the schedule for tomorrow, all by my lonesome.   My buddy, Karen, and her sister, who is running Western States at the end of June, are a 3-day WS training camp, during which time they're suppose to run 70 miles.  Ugh!   . . . . . although I secretly wish I could've gone with them.

Have a great weekend, and let's remember what Memorial Day is truly about.  My heartfelt gratitude to those families and servicepersons who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom.

      Craneium -

I'm glad to hear your group isn't like those who ride in San Fransisco.   It gets my blood boiling when I see their antics in the news.

Timbo – I won’t say I told you so, but.....don’t worry, though, you have a week to rest up and hey, maybe that just means you’d have to run it slow and keep me company...

         Yippers....................................knew that was coming

Buuuut, I think takin' it easy for another week and my legs should be fine....but I hate tapers where I don't do much, as that tends to make me sluggish on race day.

Actually the plan I followed had me running 30 miles last Sat (I ran 26), and 20 miles this Sat a week before.....so Ya see, it's not my fault...but the moron plan (stoopid is - as stoopid does)

And.................like running with Holly would be a bad thing anyways

Leslie.....I knew you would like that (grins)

Hey Dave....................Friday - Super cool Pub and a few beers - Ate a large cheese pizza (only 2 bucks) - and getting paid at the same time........priceless. The Gal that gave me my pizza came back and said..............you ate all of that little guy

Calorie control starts tomorrrow...........think I will cycle 75 miles with my cycling club, to keep resting my running legs

Running has given me the courage to start, the determination to keep trying, and the childlike spirit to have fun along the way - Run often and run long, but never outrun your Joy of running!

The week before a 50k??? Holy $h crap!  Oh . . . wait a minute.  I read that as 30 Sat and 20 Sun.  I was thinking, "Uh, you realize a 50k is only 31 miles not 50 miles, right?"    But still - that's a heck of a lot of miles before a 50k.  That's actually a plan with a taper?

Leslie, the taper is...you do nothing - nada - not squat the final week before the race (kinda like it forced me to do anyways )

That kind of taper would drive me nuts.  Good luck with it.  You'll need it.

Enke! I didn't know you were a biker chick! I'll really have to meet you some time. My motorcycling days are over and I have no intention at my age to ever go back that way, but bicycling is what I did as a kid before I discovered motorcycles, so it's not surprising that I've returned to it after giving the big bikes up.

Nothing feels as free as traveling on two wheels (as Mary is also discovering).

"Think blue, count two, and look for a red shoe"

Roch - -Yup, but I haven't ridden in 11 years, due to small children and not wanting to have an accident while they were little.  But I'm thinking of taking my DH's enduro out for a spin soon to see if I still have it.  The bikes they make these days just have too much power.  I know what you are saying about the exhilaration factor.

Motorcycle Mama they used to call me (Neil Young...)

"During a marathon, I run about two-thirds of the time. That's plenty." - Margaret Davis, 85 Ed Whitlock regarding his 2:54:48 marathon at age 73, "That was a good day. It was never a struggle."

If any of you get HBO2, Sunday there is a movie on called "Taking Chance," based on the true story of Lt. Colonel Michael Strobl, USMC, who escorted the body of 19-year old Lance Corporal Chance Phelps back home after he was killed in Iraq.  It truly is a movie worth watching.
