4.5 very paper-baggy km for me, shuffled in the rain along the waterfront.

    That is all.

Enke, there is also the Trail Festival at Pineland Farm in Maine, 25k, 50k, canine-cross something and barefoot 5k the day before etc. Very friendly, very hilly trails ( Xc ski trails)  and some fields with annoying footing, but a nice race.  I did the 25k once and the 50k the year I turned 50.

      Dear Enke -

      .

you’re running so well this fall.

Maybe the cabin trails have been good to you, . . to say nothing of the subliminal mindset from your new red racer.  Maybe you can test out a couple of the many 50K’s abounding every winter for the non-skiers in the PNW with a 50th B-day finale with lamerunner and the eastern goddesses.
      .
With generous cutoff times allowing 15m/m and more pacing (even more generous for early starters), no need to limit yourself to only one. You have but one 50th birthday so run as many as convenient all year long.  Wasn't tramps or someone else doing a 50K birthday year too?

      .

Don’t waste most of your running life as someone I know did thinking that regular runners can’t run ultas too.                             <<<(that would be me)>>> .

      .

Anyone who can handle the Cougar Mountain Series can run any ultra around here.

However, usually best to stay away from events that have “peak,” “mountain” or something that gets snow at the top in the winter.

Maybe start with a leisurely First Call New Year’s Day marathon on the Sammamish bike paths with all the recovering celebrants from New Year’s Eve and then follow-up with a 50K on the same route + 7.805 km out’n’back on President’s Day Weekend Saturday.  I’ll be trying to be at the latter too.  It’s still famed as the site of mariposai’s unbelievable negative split in her first 50K.
      .
The roadway wide width of the Lake Youngs Nuts 50K three+ times around the 10-mile perimeter of Lake Youngs in January (and 50-miler in May) is more of a trail ulta experience but still kind of tame as no narrow trail running.
      .
Though it sounds hard, the Mt. Si 50K/50M don’t run up the peak at all; they’re on the same rails-to-trails as the Tunnel marathons. However, especially since you are already familiar with Bridle Trails running, their Winter Running Festival of various distance options to 50K in January would be better yet, . . . if rain / snow / hail / freezing / getting lost / etc. doesn’t DNF you as it did me in 2007)

Then take some of the West Coast and midwest goddesses back for the Pineland Festivities on May 25th (or Vermont in August or autumn, I forgot which).

ps tammy - among other things, did you notice that you got me by 3.5 miles in wildchild's fewest miles category?. Good thing for four four mile training runs.
