dear ilene,

 

with plans for a long summer rest for mr. knee already fizzled by ten slower-than-even-usual marathons while Japan, please sign me up for another Portland Marathon, this time with a Marathon Overachiever celebrating his 80th birthday, and 450th marathon, on 10/4.  I was just running one or two fitness marathons a year when I met him at mile 12 of a 1997 marathon and he stumped me by asking, "why do you only do one a year?"  He's still churning 'em out at a 5hr/30min rate but I've got lots of practice down there in keeping up for at least the first mile.

 

Might as well make up for signing up but missing the fun in British Columbia last year by joining him in Victoria too.
