Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."
I'm going to play it by feel this week. If I feel okay I'll follow the high end of the plan shown below. If I'm tired (physically or mentally) I'll ease off to the low end or take a rest day. I want this to be an easyish cutback week anyway ...
Bill
8 to 10 miles with 2 to 4 miles at tempo

Monster miles in the coming weeks, but haven't fallen apart yet...Roar!
7/26----6-8 easy----8 easy

7/30----8-9 miles----11.4 miles---legs feel much better and low humidity helped too
7/31----6 with striders-------7.4 mellow miles
8/1------16-17 with 10 mile race--------17 with 10 mile race in 1:09:40 new PR
Core and weights 3-4x

This not planning seems to be working out better than planning so I will go with it for now!
Monday - 4.8 ez with striders + yoga
Tuesday - 8.3 hilly + 40 minutes PT from hell- chest and tri
Wednesday -did some XT and pull weights - meant to run but never got around to it. Do I get bonus miles for catching up on 3 years of filing though?
Note to self - EVERY time I take a day off for no good reason I end up sick or injured and the miles tank.
I'm gonna need that free pass this week.
Total 23.6 BLah. Hamstring is mediocre.

Friday: Easy 6.5. Perfect weather!
Saturday: Easy 6.3. Nice morning temps.
Sunday: 8 easy in the morning.

Thanks, Holly. Despite the No-Plan Plan working so well for others, I'm still going with the Have-A-Plan Plan for now.
Last week was my biggest weekly mileage to date, as well as my first 20-miles-in-one-day since the 1980s. Taking it kind of easy this week and listening closely to my body.

Just a dude.
Thank you for keeping this going...
My hamstring has been a non issue the last couple days... so I am encouraged by that.
I've also noticed the few days I've run just a couple miles in the morning has helped me feel better the rest of the day without hurting my afternoon workouts... So I'm gonna try more doubles...
Overall, the week felt pretty good. I think next week will be very similar...

Ok...pain in calf is worse

Not the week I was expecting. The general tightness I always seem to have in my calves progressed to a pain right below the Left knee. This is a new type of injury for me. Sharp pain with pinpoint tnederness just bellow the left knee inbetween the attachment points of the hamstring tendons. Two days of rest seemed to get rid of it, but after 2 days of running it came right back. I am going to try 4 days off then followed by a couple of short low intensity runs. I am not freaking out yet, I do not limp around and I can still run on it, but I know from expirience that small overuse injuries like this can become down right depressing if you don't proctively rehab them.
Wish me luck!

CNYrunner 78.2 Where in that 20-miler did you put your MP miles? (I know I’ve asked you this before, but I’d like to hear again)
Holly it varies depending on the workout and where I am in the marathon training cycle. This time the mp miles were closer to the end of the run to make it more of a fast finish long run. Overall it was a progressive run with the fastest paces (also mp) at the end. From here on in I'll focus more on fast finish stuff and holding pace while fatigued.
