Masters Running

It's kinda weird when I, a no show for so long in here, am starting the daily!

Hope everyone is doing well.  I know absolutely nothing about what's going on with you all, except Holly started some kind of pushup challenge and I heard her voice for the first time on FB.  It's always kind of surreal to meet or hear someone talk who you've only chatted with in here for so many years.

I haven't been doing much, but this week I start anew.  And with that, I did about 40 minutes of core/ST for me this a.m.  It feels good to be doing that part of training again.  I even managed 5 slow, ugly burpees . . . without the pushup at the bottom.

So here's a story for you . . . . Saturday night, we got home from a Crabs baseball game around 9:30.  There are 3 Sheriff's cars down at the end of our little road and the officers are pulling up crime scene tape.  What the what???  We walk down there to see what's going.  The officer we spoke to said it was a shooting, they weren't sure if it was suicide.  Well guess what, boys and girls? It wasn't suicide.  The neighbor who's house it was right outside of heard the shots, went out there and the guy was falling out of his truck, blood everywhere . . . and no gun to be found.  It happened around 5:40 in the evening, and I had left about 15 minutes before to head to church and then meet up with Shorty at the baseball game.

There are a couple of houses in the neighborhood all of us have been watching and that we're concerned about regarding drugs and transients.  My plan is to talk to my boss to see what kind of pressure we can put on the landowners, and I want to talk to someone at the Sheriff's Office about what we can do as concerned neighbors to get this crap out of our neighborhood.

    And so it goes!

Have a great week, friends ~

Fine, if Leslie can start the daily so late in the day, I guess the least I can do is keep her company!

That's pretty unnerving about the excitement right down the street, Leslie. I hope the neighbors and concerned citizens can start putting on the pressure to  clean things up.

I'm not going to get all excited or anything, but I will say that I've run 5 of the 7 days so far this month AND I brought my running stuff to run after work while David is playing tennis. I haven't run much each time - anywhere from 2 to 4 miles each times, but it's a start after only running a little over 21 miles the entire month of July.

        Hey All !

I promised Jlynne that I would pop in. I've been quite the stranger...I'm not doing much running, let my log go and I can't even claim the status of a lurker right now.

I'm fresh back from two weeks of vacation. One week on RAGBRAI, the largest and longest party on two wheels followed by a family gathering outside of Branson MO on Table Rock. A resort owned by the guy who founded the Bass Pro shops.

The Olympics are re-igniting that competitive passion. Hopefully you'll start seeing me more frequently.

Alrighty then, I was just thinking it seems awhile since Leslie and Tammy have posted, and now Slo! This is the daily of the lost RA master! Good to see all of you, no matter what you've been up to. Leslie, sorry to hear about the situation in your neighborhood, good luck getting some clean up action there.

Another interesting thing about today's daily... we're not running much although Tammy is setting a good string of runs for August so far. I ran 43+ miles last week, the longest since June, and I'm paying the price today. My foot is sore and I'm taking the day off. We'll see how it feels tomorrow, but maybe two days would be good. I might ride my BTN tonight since my real bike has flat tires  but it's such a shame to miss being out there today. I might take a walk at lunchtime, but really I think the best thing is to stay off it as much as I can.

Was just 1.5 miles or so into a 9 or 10 miler on Saturday when I tripped on a small rock on a little trail (mostly flat and just a couple trouble spots), flew face first into the puddle I was trying to avoid and dislocated my shoulder. Two words: That Hurt!

Have broken a fair number of bones and this was worse, until (a little over 2 hr later at the ER) they finally knocked me out and popped it back in. So that puts a crimp in marathon plans, but I'm holding out some hope that I'll be back running by the end of the week. Visit to ortho this week to see what's ahead, or not.

              Leslie -definitely scary.

              Tammy - nice streaking!

Erika - bummer about the foot - hope it starts behaving after some rest.

              X-T - Ow!

No run for me today either, just 15 minutes or so of light core and strength.  My knee is sore again, so might just bike tomorrow, we will see.

I got DD in to see the hand specialist this afternoon.  Golly I was glad of an excuse to leave work early - the boss hired a consultant to improve our processes and procedures and make us more efficient.  Four hours of team-building exercises, drawing cartoon pigs, and lecturing about checklists for every activity from running credit cards to sorting mail (none of which I do there) - I was bored out of my mind.  All we got out of that 4 hours was that we need to put up white boards to track our cases visually, instead of doing this on the computer.    Anyway the hand specialist said that DD's hand was not bad, and won't need a cast or splint, just needs to be taped to the next finger for the next three weeks.  That's good news.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Attempting to retain some fitness while I await my new knee. Been able to walk early morning when my pain is least. Did 2.5 miles this morning and jogged very slowly around the local reservoir (1.5 miles) for the first time in over a month. We also go for walks throughout the day. Stated swimming 2x week and that seems to help. Unlike Mike and his huge weight gain (you'll lose it as soon as you can run again) I've only gained a couple of pounds (eating a lot less- but not cutting down on the wine).

We're heading out for the last of our summer mini vacations this Thursday to my BIL in the NY Hamptons (where the 'rich and famous' spend their summers). Hope to do more walking and beach time.

x-track-tough fall. Hope you recover quickly.

Starting to miss Jay's recaps (even if I'm not running).

Glad your DD's hand not as bad as feared, Holly.

I've been busy for a few days finishing up my week off with some more kayaking this time in Lake Huron. Different than in a river and a much more strenuous work out. Went to a rock formation we call Turnip rock. A total of 8 hours of paddling and I still got in a 5 miler on Saturday. Sunday I did a 10 miler that went fairly well about a 9 minute pace and then a afternoon wedding. Today it was back to work ☹️☹️☹️  I did stop by the bike store on the way home and talked with the owner about what kind of bike I need and how many $$$$ it would cost me to get an entry level bike. My old  Huffy just makes me huff and puff. I did a lot of biking on my trip last week and couldn't keep up with the others so maybe it's time to retire my 25 year old bike.

Sounds like everyone is still on the healing teeter totter . 2 steps forward  1 step back.  But still a step in the right direction.

Wow, XC, a dislocated shoulder does sound painful!  You gotta watch out diving into puddles like that.

Nice to see Tammy, Leslie, Slo, and the rest of you here today!  Leslie, that sounds scary.  Holly, not sure what happened to your DD's hand, but glad it's not serious.

I was away all weekend, volunteering at the Silverheels 100 mile race.  There was a 50% finishing rate - tough course!  I had a great time working with several friends at my aid station, and my DD and DSIL2B came and worked, as I'd hoped!  I think they had a good time, even though they're thoroughly convinced that ultra runners are crazy.   They also swept part of the course for me, an out-and-back section up to the highest point of the whole course at 12,300 ft, which was a 5 mile round trip from the aid station.  They enjoyed the views, and doing it on fresh legs isn't too tough - the runners were there at mile 44, which is a different story!

I ran 9 miles on Sunday morning, sweeping a couple sections of single track.  Heading out for a run here shortly.

I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.

deez4boyz tough road you have traveled with your DS. Best wishes that he turns things around.

fatozzig I sure hope something good happens with your neighbors. Very, very scary.

X Trackster that hurt? Must be the understatement of the year! Heal up fast.

Holly S. nice to see some relatively good news today. I hope this means your DD has a short healing period ahead.

evanflein be nice to those feet!

I got up early and ran 18 miles. Pretty good weather for it. The dew point started in the high 50's. Around here? That is about as good as it gets. I am still taking the Flonase and it did not seem to interfere with my run so that is good. Now how do I know when I can stop taking the Flonase?

I worked in the office today but stopped at Planet Fitness on the way home for a workout on the ARC trainer.

Tomorrow I need to go for a routine blood test. I sure hope I don't start to pass out like last time. It's embarrassing.

busy day but two miles down-and-back to Mary's Falls this morning.  No bears, and certainly nothing like leslie's neighborhood.  However, if you don't already, maybe better get yourselves (you too) some protection against violents like at the end of the street. Good luck.  Maybe taper day tomorrow.  We'll see
