Marathon Maniac #957
For those of you who are new, this is the 40/40 thread, for people who are over 40 years old who run 40 miles/week or more. We give Free Passes to those who come really close or try really hard...
Here’s what I have for last week's tally. Sorry it took me so long - no internet at work and no time at home this week.

That kind of running, on top of 10-hour days – that’s tough – mentally as well as physically

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Party on Saturday night, so I figured I'd better do my LR on Saturday.
Last year I switched my LR from Sunday to Saturday. This wasn't necessarily so I could party every Saturday night, although sometimes it happens. I just like the idea of getting that LR out of the way before the weekend really gets going.
Not at it at all.

Thanks Holly, your the bestest of them all.
Its another week of fun times on the TM and the roads.
Mon: am 6 miles - 7.0 miles slow and easy, legs felt good after 2 miles of warming up
pm 4 miles - 5.0 miles still recovery pace but alittle faster than the am run.
Tues: 9 miles including strides - 10.0 miles easy aerobic pace
Wed: 15 miles - 15.0 miles including 2m warmup, 3 miles @ 7:30, 5 miles @ 7:20, 3 miles @ 7:30 and 2m cooldown. felt surprisingly good, though it could have been the John Wayne movie I was watching taking my mind off the running.
Thurs: 8 miles - 9.0 miles at recovery pace, right hip and knee a little tight and tender, but stretching and 5 minutes of running loosened them up.
Fri: 13 miles - 2.0 miles of warmup and my right hip and ITB started to complain some. stopped and started ice treatments
Sat: 7 miles - 2.0 miles slow testing right leg, still alittle tender.
Sun: 18 miles including 12 @ MP - 4.0 miles of slow and easy running, right leg much better, but stopped at 4 miles, continueing ice.
Total: 54 miles

Thanks for continuing to do this Holly. We know it takes much time that you don't really have. Continuing on with the training. Since my HM was a DNF, there is no need for down time or recovery time. Right back at it.
Bill
The plan is for 12 miles with 20 x 30 seconds at 5K pace, 1 minute jog recoveries.
Tinman is a running genius. There can be no doubt I'm getting faster, when the 4.3 mile cool down (after running the fartlek repeats) is run at 8:24 pace
Recovery pace of 9:47
11 miles easy followed by 6 miles at Marathon Pace (8:19)
Good run. 8:48 overall pace. MP miles at about 8:15 to 8:20.

Every Mile is a Gift
Thanks Holly! I'm a little late to the party this week.
This will be an odd week, in that the mileage is about the same as last week, but there is no "long run" this week (officially 'week 6' of marathon training...but I have an 18 scheduled for next wk). I'm starting to feel a little fatigue. I think I pushed the pace a little too much last week, so my goal this week is to back off on the pace just a bit. The good news is that my cold is more or less gone, and there are no injuries to report!
Often injured, NEVER giving up.
Here's the plan----last month of long miles before Boston.
3/1----4-5 easy----4.2 easy 3/2----5 in am/4 in pm----8.2 easy---no double today---had to come home a longer way thanks to **&&$$$##@@$!! Kujo---long enough 3/3----12 hilly dyno run----14.3---- 3 miles easy then 1x8 (60) 2x6 (60) 3x5 (45) 4x4 (20) 4x3 (15) 5x1 (10) 2x3 (30) 1x2 (60) easy for the rest 3/4----8 easy-----8 easy 3/5----10 w/2 easy--6@tempo---2 easy----10 in 1:19 with 6 at 43:17 3/6----18 with WAMDA 5k all out ---11.2 easy miles 3/7----8-10---22.6 with 10 at 7:30 pace/overall in 8:25 pace core and weights 3x
78.5 for the week
Thanks Holly. I have a 10 mile trail race this Sunday. Lots of fun and a good workout, too.
OK -- let me be the one that says it ... could you give 5 days in a row with no snow / rain / ice? Don't get me wrong, I am thankful that I am seeing a little bit more sunshine into my AM runs ... but I realized today that I will be forced back into the darkness [once again] when we Spring forward. [Just needed to get that off the chest.]
Here's what I have:
M - 10.12 miles [including 4 miles Tempo]
T - 6 miles [including 6 x 1 min strides]
Wed - 11 miles [including 10 x 1 min hills with 2 min downhill recovery]
Th - off
Friday - 20.2 miles
Sat - 5 miles
Sunday - 5.32 miles [w/ 8 x 35 sec strides with 1:35 recovery]
Total = 58.2 miles total
2012= under-goaled
i'm lovin' it... MM#1949
Mon- 5 mi EZ (5 mi at 9:24)
Tue - 8 mi incl 6x0.5 faster (8.4 mi w/ 6x0.5 avg 7:46)
Wed - 13 mi m-LR (13.1 mi of Hills 9:21)
Thu - 4 mi recovery (4 mi hills 10:28)
Fri- 6 mi GA (8 mi incl 6 mi at 8:33..good run..finally!)
Sat - 4 mi recovery (2 mi 9:56)
Sun - 20 mi LR (20 mi at 9:48 pace... 40 sec pace faster than 2 weeks ago...progress!)
Plan: 60 mi Actual: 60.5 miles
