Steve, a great intro!!   I was struggling to understand all the Hanson's methods, but your link to the video gave me, finally, the perfect grasp of the entire concept.   I'm sure Des Linden watched that link repeatedly prior to her winning Boston on the Hanson's team last April.   I'm deeply in indebted to you.

And, yes, where is Radio Shack when you need it?  That story reminded me of the Heathkits I put together when I was in high school.   A buried and blown ceramic fuse...oy...who designed that?   Yes, mount an auto fuseholder externally if you can.

Tammy, nice you could get out on the trails.

Falcon, we ought to talk about our backgrounds sometime :-)

Karen, I heard good things about Monkey from several friends.  Nice day, good views, hills are still steep.   So happy Robert finished and persevered.

Marathon Maniacs...I'm MM 1,228, a number that is now low but I'm still a paid-up member.     It was a pretty big deal when I qualified in 2008...hard to fathom that was 10 years ago just a few weeks ago.   I do think they lost their sense of purpose with size.   But it's always fun as a conversation starter.   Overall, I have mixed feelings.   And, overall, it's not a big deal, worth too much mental energy.

Nice 10K run in shorts this afternoon under lead-grey skies.   Just nice to walk out the door and run.   I never get tired of that simple pleasure.

    Rock on,

    Joe

I have nothing particularly clever or profound to add as a tag to each message...I just like to run.

    Trails are hard!

This is what I thought about the Hanson method mentioned.

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

15.3 miles today, and Garmin Forerunner ate the file. That is so aggravating! My old 25 was doing that a lot and they finally replaced it. I've never used the "new" one (refurbished) because in the interim I got the new Vivoactive, which I've liked a lot. It needs a new strap though, so I'm using this Forerunner 35 that I got at the running club banquet this fall as a door prize. I've used it a few times with no issue, but now it's done this and I'm pretty ticked off at it. I can see the basics of the run (distance, time, pace) but no detail like splits. Oh well. I added it manually so I got my 15 mile long run in and 42.9 for the week. Next week the plan is a 20 miler then a short taper, but I'm really not into this for some reason.

As my avatar says, I'm MM 685, which is always fun to tell someone when you meet another MM who inevitably has a very large number. I like that mine fits on my license plate! I love the race calendar, and it's where I keep track of all my races and state counts, etc. Other than that, I'm not very active.

Oh yeah, good move on the puppy, Stumpy! She's adorable!

Good move on the puppy, Stumpy. What a nice addition to your family!!!

Great to hear that SrLopez did great and was able to secure his 10th Monkey medal!

Tammy, your trail run sounds lovely!

Marj, sorry to hear you are down with the cold crud. It is going around here also.

Erika, nice 15 miler. Where is your next marathon adventure?

Speaking of adventure, for our run today the Easy Pacer and  I decided to drive away from town for our run so we can enjoy the fall colors of the apple orchards. Great weather. We ran 4 miles together, then I kept on exploring new roads until I got my 9 miles distance goal for the day.

Then we went to a friend's house for a lovely dinner. I had a blessed day!!
