Marathon Maniac #957
For those of you who are new, this is the 40/40 thread, for people who are over 40 years old who run 40 miles/week or more. We give Free Passes to those who come really close or try really hard...
Here’s what I have for last week’s tally. A couple people still not totaled - let me know if you have an update.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Hi All,
I've been lurking on this thread for several weeks. I just turned 40 at the end of October. I hit 36 miles last week, and 500 miles YTD just today! I do most of my mileage on the TM, easy with the occasional tempo or interval workout. I had ACL reconstruction almost three years ago and am just now getting back into shape.
500 Miles YTD. Yay!

Thurs: 8 miles - 10.0 miles recovery pace, nice and slow. legs feel good after last nights long run.
XMAS: 11 miles including intervals - 12.0 mile including 16 x 1/4 mile (1:40 ave) with 16 x 1/4 mile (2:07 ave)
great interval workout, pleasently tired but not wiped out.
Sat: 6 miles - 6.0 miles, nice and easy recovery run, legs slightly fatigiued, but wanted to go at a faster pace due to yesterdays intervals.
Sun: 20 miles - 21.0 miles, lots of hills with three 250 ft climbs over 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile. temp was 18 degrees at the start and warming to 30 degrees, slight wind. overall very comfortable, but still sweated like a pig. no snow here but the frost was thick enough that it looked like it had a dusting of snow. Pretty sunny morning.
total: 76 miles
Holly, yes last week was a recovery week. its about 20% less than the average weekly totals of the past 8 weeks.

Will run the Manatee River Run 5 Miler on Sunday, perhaps with Buckeye.
Hey all from Siesta key ... relagated to the dark ages of dial - up So posts will be few and far between.
Will now more after wed/thur runs. Yesterday did not go that great ... got my five miles in OK but after affects of illness made in a drain. What worried me after in the evening was carrying stuff to beachpark for sunset and felt like a slight stress fracture in left leg, which never have had issue. It was a sharp pain in lower left leg just above the ankle. walked several miles at Busch gardens today so not sure what it was but had me concerned.
Good Job All and Happy Holidays!

Time to stay on plan now---last weeks were all in the 50s and even 60s in a few cases as far as mileage. Solid base building with a few races thrown in to remind my legs about speed. Feel good---tired out from work, but break comes at just the right time. No airplane travel until mid-January. yippee

Thanks Holly. Welcome Scott. And good to see CNY back in the thread.
It hasn't been a problem getting to 40 miles lately, but I need to start getting some workouts in. Between the weather and the holidays it just hasn't happened. Maybe a New Year's resolution?
Not at it at all.
I Can Go The Distance

Every Mile is a Gift
Hi folks! I signed up for this group awhile ago, but never jumped in and posted until a few days ago. Just recorded my first 40-mile week of the year last week. This year has been a comeback year, running-wise, for me, after missing several years due to chronic injuries. Just now starting to ramp up the mileage to train for my first marathon next May.
Here's my plan for this week:
Often injured, NEVER giving up.
Thanks Holly.
No plan this week either.
M - 8.4 miles
T - 8.4 miles
W - 8.4 miles
Th - snow day
F - 5.8 miles
Sa - 6.8 miles
Su - 10.1 miles
