Greetings! Where is everyone?  Congratulations to Karin  on a great race!  Your speed is coming back fast.  Nice race for Holly too, and Happy Birthday to Erika!

Decent weekend of running for me; 10 yesterday on the Rockingham rec trail-- ash, stones, these days leaves, but pretty, and about 12 today, most of the Manchester Marathon half course.  I ran with a couple of club runners from Mass who were doing a long run on the course. They were doing 20 or thereabouts. I was kind of tour guide for the first half.  My legs were tired but my knee held up. Got new shoes yesterday, Asics Gel Kayano 20, nice colors.  Great to have fresh cushioning!

    Happy Sunday.

Thanks for the manchester start skier mom.
Not that it has anything to do with getting accused of reverting to my more youthful days more-and-more nowadays (read as immature) or anything like that but does PBJ jester all his runs now.
      .
I must be on a roll but running an early morning 4-miler
under starry skies above might have got me thinkin’ too much
Oh, give me land, lots of land,
under starry skies above, and I will run,
let me run thru the wide open country
      that I love, I’m on a roll
Let me sing to myself in the mornin’ breeze
listen to the murmur of the falling leaves
Let me live forever, but I ask you please,
      Just let me run.
      Thanks to Roy Rogers

        Hi guys,

6 pokey slow miles in the fog.  The dawn took so long to dawn I figured the sun was just late today.

Cool fungus photos! I'd really have to be convinced that it was good before I tried it though....

Awesome running there, Karin! You have definitely made a strong comeback. Cool to have the PBJ sighting as well!

Nice running for you, too, Lamerunner, and glad the knee is ok.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. Yesterday was an absolutely beautiful day here, unseasonably warm and sunny. I ran 10.3 hilly miles in the afternoon, and we went out to dinner with my folks later. Good day, even if I didn't get as much done as I wanted to. Oh well, never do.

Not sure what to do for a run today, I'd like to go kind of long but for me now that means anything over 10, really. Only planned on 40 for the week and already at almost 31. Carolyn, I like getting into a phase where 10-12 is a standard longish run whereas that's a midweek and Saturday MLR during buildup times. I'd still like to get 200 for the month, but enjoying the lack of training intensity nowadays. And I have no idea when my next marathon might be. Like Mariposai, nothing planned in the near future.

Ok, I'm rambling... Anyone hear from Orange Mat?

Tet... Columbus Day was yesterday. Monday is just an excuse for some to have the day off (not me though).

Erika, I laughed, and we should all say badass more often.

            Econo!!!!

I did 5.1 trail miles at the cabin this morning.  It was only 42F, and I forgot my gloves, so I wore a pair of clean socks on my hands.  No one saw.

I was really tired yesterday for some reason - get this- I fell asleep at 5:30pm, woke up an hour later but was still really tired so just went to bed.....other than waking up for maybe an hour during the night, I slept until 6:20am!!!!  What the heck???  Something about that cabin, I sleep so well, and I do have a carbon monoxide detector (I had the fire going almost all day).

"During a marathon, I run about two-thirds of the time. That's plenty." - Margaret Davis, 85 Ed Whitlock regarding his 2:54:48 marathon at age 73, "That was a good day. It was never a struggle."

Ran Dayton River Corridor Half this morning. 1:45:28 official for a 8:03 pace. This is 8 seconds from a HM PR. Garmin had me at 13.3 miles and a 7:54 pace.  Finished 84th overall, and 5th in Age Group (males 45-49).

              Philippians 4:13.

evan, belated happy birthday.  Holly, nice 17 mile trail race.  CNY, good job in your half.  ibleed, way to go in your half with an almost PR.

Nice long runs for wild, lame (a couple), and evan.

This morning, it was in the low 50s and there was a light breeze.  I did 3 miles at a 10:46 pace.

A good day and good runs for all.

                Trails are hard!

GO PATS!!  Sorry--great finish to the game..................

Anyway, 9.1 miles in Maine this morning.  A little slow, but nice hills and pleasant weather.  Then the sad part of the year.  Closing the cabin and pulling docks and boats.  Those things must soak up a lot of water over the summer, because they're feeling heavier every year.

Nice runs for Lame and Enke.  Happy belated to Erika--hope the day was fun.  You usually have a pretty nice dinner, as I recall.

Enke--much better use of socks than some folks have in the past.

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

Sweet! And this ran just a few miles from my house - if I had known you were running it I would have cheered you at the finish.  Well done!

Just 6.5 recovery-paced miles for me this morning.  Yesterday's race took more out of me than I thought, or maybe I was not fully recovered from the 50K two weeks ago, but regardless, my legs were tired today.  I am so impressed when Karin can run races back-to-back - you are such a strong runner!

DD wants to get baptized, so she and I attended a class at church today about it.  No pressure from me, she came to this decision on her own, but I am proud to support her in it.  Next week after Saturday evening service she will "take the plunge."  I am very proud of her.

Also, DS just made the National Honor Society!   I am so proud of him!  I am one happy mama today!

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

lamerunner new sneakers are always fun to run in the first time!

tetsunin209 runs again??!!  <sound of fainting cats in the background>

Econo bad news, I hear the sun is going to be even later tomorrow.  Sad

evanflein I hate to think what "unusually warm" means to you even this time of year!

enkephalin for $20 I can see about destroying that bank video camera recording of this runner with their hands in socks . . .  just offering.  Wink

                      IBleedUnionBlue sweet race!

tselbs sigh, we are getting to that time of year where 50's is going to start looking good.

stumpy77 I have noticed a lot of things picking up weight from the local environment too.  How odd.  Joking

Holly S. a 50k race somehow knocking your legs out a bit for a week.  Why who would have thought!  After all recovering from a regular ol' marathon takes me, at least, two weeks!  I am impressed you can walk at this point let alone run another race!

SteveP why is there a picture of that mushroom on a tree?  There should be a picture of food porn showing some great dish you put it in!

This morning I managed 16 miles with 5 at MP.  Fortunately, I managed to run part of it on the phone and having a virtual running partner really helped with the miles and MP section.  I tell you these cell phones and Bluetooth headset things are great inventions!

In cooking news, I tried a new roasting method for sugar pumpkins and it made quite a difference.  Spectacular in fact!  I combined what mariposai has been doing with my recipe.  I tried roasting the cut up pumpkin at 325 for 30 minutes and then 400 for 30 minutes.  Much, much better.  The additional roasting time helped to dry out the pumpkin and the higher temperature for the last 30 minutes still let the outside caramelize.  Excellent!  Here are the details:

                      Preheat the oven to 325.

Peal a sugar pumpkin.  The remove the seeds and strings.  Cut the pumpkin up into 1 inch pieces.  Neatness does not count at this point so just chop away and do not worry too much about getting nice looking uniform pieces.

In a bowl combine the pumpkin, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and salt and pepper to taste.  Place the pumpkin on a baking sheet and slide into the oven on a middle rack.

After 30 minutes pull out the pumpkin and stir it around on the baking sheet.  Return to the oven.  Increase the baking temperature to 400 and bake for another 30 minutes.  Remove, cool and eat!

Live like you are dying not like you are afraid to die.

And that, dear Twokitty, answers your own question. We're having temperatures in the upper 40's and low 50's which is just really unusual for this time of year. It wouldn't be uncommon to have snow on the ground and temps around zero at night, but I'm still out digging potatoes in the garden and raking leaves! I do need to get with it though and dig all those spuds in the next few days. Funny, but almost 100 potato plants seemed like a good idea in early June... I have 5 rows left to go, 12 plants per row. At least the purple ones are done. Those are hard to see in the waning daylight!

Nice race, ibleedunionblue, always fun to tickle a PR even if you don't quite pass it.

Holly, great news about your kids. You've got a lot to be proud of with those two. And a recovery run was just what you needed. You've done a lot of tough running the last couple weeks.

14.2 miles for me today. I didn't really mean to go that long, and goodness knows I didn't need to spend 2 hours out on a run today, but I just can't help but feel this nice weather is there to be taken advantage of! I just kept going before turning around. When faced with those last two miles up the hill to home though, I was sort of regretting my "let's go just a bit more" tendencies.... Came home and dug up three more rows of suds (see above), and did some laundry. I might run the vacuum around the house to scare the cat hair just a bit before the work week begins.

                          Hi guys,

6 pokey slow miles in the fog.  The dawn took so long to dawn I figured the sun was just late today.

                          Renee

I did the same, but since I did the jaything (woke up at 4:30 and out before 5am) I expected to run in the dark for a long time before the sun came up. Ohhh the stars were sooo gorgeous. Funny, I normally stay in town during my pre-dawn runs, but today I felt indomitable and was able to venture up and over Kermel grade in the dark and felt safe. 10 miles before my DH and I drove for 4 hours to hang out with our son Daniel and drove back home.

                          A fun day, indeed!!!

don't tell anyone but 4 more miles.
I don’t know what got into me but, for some reason, I did the same thing tonight I did this morning which, though I’ve done 26.2/26.2, 13.1M/30K, 5K/13.1M/5K, etc. in different doubles (and triples) in events on the same day before, this is the first time in 37 years of running I can recall doing it in training runs.  Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I locked myself out.  Oh well.

                                Nice racing Union Blue.

Yay Holly's DD!! Yay Holly's DS!! This calls for ice cream.

DW is more of the gardener here. I harvested fewer potatoes than I planted.

So far, I'm the only one who tried the mushroom. Maybe it's because I'm a fungi. I'm not sure why DW was leery of it.

I did cook it up and enjoyed it as a side dish. If I live for 24 hours past dinner, DW may try the next one we find.

We put in two twilight miles with the dogs.
