Here’s my tentative plan for the week. Two weeks until my 50k, but since this isn't a target race for me, I don't think I'll taper much until next week. My waistline just can't take another taper/recovery period....

3 x 1 mile repeats at 10K pace (7:40), 2 mins jog recovery
Perfect: 7:35, 7:34, 7:35.
1.5 miles cool down. Overall 8:44 pace.
Nice and easy 9:30 pace

Thanks Holly -- Looks like the Memorial Day weekend it going to shape up to be close to perfect weather wise [not for running but for hanging on the beach.] My week as follows:
m - 7.8m [w/ 10 x 20 sec strides]
t - 5.5m easy
wed - 7.1m [w/ 8 x 1min on 2min easy]
thu - 3.55m easy [ran at the beach - nice to see the ocean again.]
fri - 3m easy on the mill @ 1.5%
sat - 13m [w/ spring lake 5 mile race -- 1 min PR @ 31:48]
sun - 4 mile recovery
total - 43.2 miles

thanks mucho Holly for the time and effort you put into this thread. Keeps me motivated.
Mon: am 4 miles - am 5.0 miles at a nice recovery pace, just getting the blood flowing.
pm 10 miles - pm 11.0 miles including 7.5 miles at an average of 7:33 pace.
Tues: 6 miles - 5.0 miles recovery
Wed: 9 miles - 10.0 miles at my aerobic pace, about 8:00 per mile.
Thurs: 10 miles - 7.0 miles, ended up being at a recovery pace, slow, but it didn't feel easy. so cut it short
Fri: rest!!!!! - kept with the plan
Sat: 8 miles - 5.0 miles, legs still feel tired, no energy, no motivation. tomorrow is another day.
Sun: 13 miles - 13.0 miles (hill repeats) 7 x 3/8 miles hills, 4% grade (ave 8:30 pace) with a mile in between at 8:00 pace.
Total: 56.0 miles

This was a special week for me - first week over 40! While for many of you, this isn't much, it's huge for me. And even though it was only 40.8, I ran 6 days and PR'd a 4 mile race today with a time of 33:33. Maybe there's hope after all that these old legs can pull off a marathon in October. Thanks for letting me drop in!
