      Hello everybody!

Leslie--that is a great letter.  Your dad was a pretty good guy.

I ran 10 miles, today, which included 2 x 3 strength miles in 19:32 and 19:40.  It was 36o.  Man, that felt nice.

Okay--that's about all I got.  See ya!

      C-R

Well done Mike. And so soon after surgery too.

That letter was awesome. Thanks for sharing.

It was freezing rain early in the day so I waited and ran after dark. Yeah not smart but it was 34. I felt like going in shorts and the streets were slick in only a couple of spots. I'm glad whoever made Elsa from Frozen mad had the courage to apologize and allow for some warmth.

        Thanks for the recap Jay.

Chili and rice tonight so I gotta go.

stumpy77 I feel your pain about the lack of shoulder.

          fatozzig very sweet letter.

Surly Bill good timing on the day off!

C-R sad that this current weather is "warm."

evanflein I bet the cranberry jam helped post workout. I must admit to never having heard of turning cranberries into jam.

It has been so cold out that today was just my second run outside since December 27. This winter stuff is just an awful idea! During my outing I took a few pictures and you can see them in the relive video at https://www.relive.cc/view/g16841090626. The first is a view of the dawn breaking over what is (was?) Kowalsky farm. The next two show just how much of the Long Island sound has frozen over. The first is of Southport beach and the second of Southport harbor. I do not think I have ever seen so much ice at either. The last shows one of the roads I ran along. As you can see, the shoulders are gone and there are some pretty big patches of snow and ice in the road. Fortunately, drivers are very into athletics and try to get you to jump into the deep snow by driving right at you.

Hey y'all, single digits this morning.....and by the time I ran it was in the 30s and while I ran it got close to 40 (it eventually got to the mid-40s).  Still some snow and ice out there, but it's melting away.  Forecast calls for us to be at 70 on Friday.  So got in 6.5 at lunch.  Another 2 miles before I taught spin class tonight.

fattozig, +1 more on the letter.  Excellent advice!

            Have a great night everyone!

              Beautiful letter, Leslie.

So doc thinks a stress fracture and a neuroma.  He ordered an MRI.  However, an MRI is WAY more expensive than a CT scan, so I'm weighing the pros and cons of one over the other.  Considering he's not the most personable doc, I'd say he wouldn't be too ecstatic about me asking about one vs the other.   He said the crutches were a good idea and to try and start adding some weight to my foot and see how it goes, that after 4 weeks, things should be healing.

As far as the neuroma goes, he didn't give me much to go on besides soaking my foot in warm water, which is what I've been doing.  Again .  The gu'ys okay, but I think after this I'd like to try and get hooked up with a more sports-minded ortho.  It takes almost 2 months to get into the one I want to see, so maybe I should start planning ahead.

After waiting that long to see the doc, I have to say that sounds like a rather disappointing visit. And you were being so careful, it seems a stress fracture is kind of unlikely. But whatever it is, I sure hope you get some answers soon.

Twocat, cranberry jam is actually like a cranberry sauce, but like a jam consistency. It's an old recipe of my mom's that she probably got from a friend. Our lowbush cranberries are more like lingonberries, very tart and flavorful.

As for listening to my body, yesterday's abbreviated run was a hint of what was to come. Had a restless night, got up for a dentist's appointment today (just a cleaning) then DH and I went to (finally) get our flu shots. My right shin is acting up again after I thought it was pretty much all better, and I have a headache. So, today will be a rest day even though I really didn't want to do that.

We're heading to New York on Thursday and that was going to be my rest day (traveling all day). We're hoping to see Hally/Barb while there but not sure we can make that work. We are having brunch with our friends on Saturday (our favorite astrophysicist and his wife), and we're going to The Spinners concert on Staten Island on Sunday.

We’ve certainly had a couple of nice warm days here in MN, 2 ½ miles in 34° this afternoon. That was so nice! Tomorrow will be 40° so may go out again. This was actually my first run of the year. I need to get back at it. I stopped at the Y today to ask about MrStarr getting a free membership “for seniors”. You actually have to have a Medicare supplement policy and that covers it. So, in April I can switch to a single membership and sign him up. If I go 12 times a month I get $20 off but that has been a while. They do let you call in if you exercise elsewhere so I try to remember to do that.

Leslie – what a great letter, so glad she sent it to you. Sorry that the ortho was so disappointing. I hate having all those tests done too. I’ve never had to wait that long to see a doctor, even a specialist.

Marj – I loved your picture yesterday, You look so happy, and even on the floor with the kiddos, sweet!

Twocat – I wonder when the get those satellite images. My relive shows green fields and grass, not snow.

Falconfixer - rules are rules but I can see your point.

Erika - Cranberry jam? Does it take a lot of sugar? I guess all jam does…. Mom used to make chokecherry jelly. Glad that you are having a mild winter compared to the usual. Is it getting noticeably lighter with the longer days?

I’m not looking forward to the snow and sub-zero temperatures to return this week but plan to enjoy this while it lasts. I'll ketchup later with ya!

Leslie - very neat from a neat dad.

a message for the generations, for sure.

During my outing I took a few pictures and you can see them in the relive video at https://www.relive.cc/view/g16841090626. love the relives, especially off-season in the summer.

Looks like the Arctic Ocean now.

Does that happen much back there?

However, no matter how athletic the drivers might seem to be,

there probably should be a rule against running

                      on icy roads sine shoulders.

At least, it's not in the dark.

                      Be careful.

                      .

ps - didn't make me jump into the deep snow but once,

when cycling around a sharp, blind corner in Japan,

I did end up in a muddy rice paddy versus

                      a head-on with a speeding truck. whew
