quack - noah and the duck's won out so no run for me

GD1 (she who didn't go to sox game today) ran 1 mile cross country last year in 3rd grade.  everyone ran and their results were posted online.  the only time we saw her do this, we drove 90 minutes to watch a 12 minute race - the things grandparents do!  and saturday i'm driving 1 hour to watch her dance for 10 maybe 15 minutes.....  fortunately for GD2 I only have to drive 20 minutes for her music/dance...

    Trails are hard!

      Excellent planning all around, Henry!

I just got lucky and scored 4 tickets to a Sox games from a vendor at work.  turns out to be the Cubs!!  Strangely enough, we had no problem finding someone to go with us.

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

Yeah, as an employer with a self-funded medical plan we get hit hard with these "specialty" medications. The Harvoni Hep-C drug is a blockbuster drug that can actually cure Hepatitis C, so that really is big news. Paying for it is painful though. And Medicare is out there urging people to get tested and treated while still on their employer's plan so they can avoid the cost later for the retiree. Nice. And for all the talk of "health care reform," little to nothing has been done to the actual cost of care. It's all been about access to insurance and making insurance (and therefore self-insured employers) pay more.

Abby did ok overnight and had another ultrasound this morning. They couldn't see anything definitive like a mass or tumor, but she did accumulate more fluid in her abdomen that they drained this morning (200 ml, after a full liter yesterday). We'll be adopting a maintenance and keep-her-comfortable treatment protocol. I'm trying not to think in terms of dollars, but it's hard not to. We'll have had her 4 years this July; she was 14 when we adopted her. I've gotten pretty attached to the old tabby and the house seemed strangely empty without her last night. Although Emma sure liked having us to herself!

I'll try to get out for a run later this afternoon so we can pick her up right after work. We'll get a lesson on administering sub-cutaneous fluid to keep her hydrated. Fun stuff (not).

Ugh!  We did that with our first 2 cats.  I couldn't do the sticking, The Hub had to.  My hands shook too much.  I was the IV pole.  Just in case your vet forgets to mention it, warm up the fluids by letting them sit in a sink of warm water for a few minutes, even the tube (of course, not the needle).  Abby will appreciate it.  And if whoever is the IV pole can get up above the action, gravity helps and you should be able to let the fluids flow freely, giving it a little extra help by squeezing the bag a bit.  The fluids will fall to one side of her body and be a nice sloshy, hangy thing.

Rainy, yucky day, but at least it's NOT SNOW!!

Had a good lesson on why I shouldn't sleep in on Thursday mornings - was debating on getting to a 5:30 spin class or sleeping until 5:45 and using our recumbent bike in the house. Well I slept in and then did a less than fulfilling 30 minutes, barley broke a sweat!! Followed it with some upper body and core work before I had to get ready for the rest of a busy day!! NO MORE sleeping in on Thursdays!!

Brought my car to the dealer for brakes and maintenance work to the tune of $900 - yikes!!

Tough tempo run this evening. Maybe I shouldn't have run on that rest day yesterday. Anyways, with warm up & cool down 13 miles total.

We had a long family discussion last night and decided to begin looking for a puppy. If Max the Kitty was still around, we might have postponed it, but having lost two pets in recent months, we all feel for poor Dexter, our very social dog, being alone all day long while we are gone, and DD is longing for a pup to love on.  Also, Dexter is such a gentle fellow, we think he will adapt well to a new pet in the house.

Of course, I realize that a puppy will mean a huge amount of extra work for me, the mom, the poop cleaner upper and vet taker to person, but I am okay with that.  We are going to look at some rescue options this weekend, for a start, although we are determined not to rush, but to find a good fit for the family.

Early meeting for me, so just 3.5 miles on the TM.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

                  Hello everybody!

We are going to look at some rescue options this weekend, for a start, although we are determined not to rush, but to find a good fit for the family.

So...by Monday you will have a new puppy?  Let us know it's name, will ya?

I ran an easy 7 miles.  Then Debbie drug my out to have pizza and a couple of drinks.  This place we go to has the all time greasiest pizza in the world...it is so good!

Okay--that's it.  Gotta go.  See ya!

Did another 1.5 tonight. Ran as slow as I could.

Holly, when we found/trapped Emma, we liked to think that our recently departed Midnight told her there was a good home for cats with a vacancy, and that led her to us. Hey, you never know. Daisy might send the right pup your way.

Abby is home. Deez, your brake job will seem like a deal. I just spend $878.33 on a 18 year old cat with what looks like imminent kidney failure. She's home now though, had a bit to eat and sat in my lap for awhile, now is resting in a back bedroom where she has a bed. Poor old kitty, she's exhausted. But hey, she lost 3 lbs at the vet! 3 pounds of fluid drained from her abdomen, my goodness. And yeah Leslie, we got the lesson and demo on the fluid administration. Looks easy enough, but we'll see how it goes tomorrow when we do it. She could live another few days, months or a year or so. We'll just watch to see how she's doing and if things just seem too difficult and she's not getting any relief, we'll make that decision then. {{Abby}} love this crabby old tabby.

Ran 5.2 mostly easy miles on tired legs late afternoon. Headwind and uphill on the way out, opposite on the way back. I liked the return trip much better. And it's snowing now. Great.
