dave - good job on watering down drinking enough to be able to drink eight glasses a day.  Sounds like the study KSA mentioned was right, after all.

    .

RCG - thanks for checking in with your message.

    Somehow, your first-hand views help.

KSA - superAwe for DD’s not only qualifying for this year’s

Triathlon AG Nationals on Saturday in Omaha

but also for chalking up a strong sub-3 PR.

    when's their next races? .

    .

At the paces I was barely able to produce

    in the much-abbreviated super-sprint triathlon

distances I did on Saturday, the Omaha distances

would have taken me more than three hours more

than DD's and left me more than an hour behind

the sole finisher in the woman’s 85+ category!

However, I wasn’t surprised when I saw who it was:

Spokane’s 87-yo Sister Madonna Buder with whom

I’ve been blessed to have shared a number of miles

over the years, first late into the evening in the IMH lava fields

where I was struggling in 1987, then a Dannonman Half-Iron

in 2005 that was my first DGL <<<(dead-glorious-last)>>>, etc.

And, yes, she did bless me enough to keep

me ahead of the police escort that would

have otherwise gobbled me up in  the  Dannonman, Smile

. . . to say nothing of a sympathy something at the finish

I once also got from the grinning goddess amy too.

I'm sure they've both long since forgotten but I never will.

No wonder I love running so much.

    Thanks.

      Well that's pretty cool, Tet.

Hey TeaOlive! Welcome, and share a bit. We're a chatty bunch and like to know a bit about our fellow masters posters.

Dave, snork. That does indeed make the water consumption easy to increase.

I had to look up that cheese, never heard of it before. Nobody tell my DH about it, k?

BTY, just get out there and do what you can. You're way ahead of most everyone else in the country.

Welcome home, Henry and Marj! Thanks for taking us along on your trip through your pictures. Beautiful!

Rain, rain, rain, rain, rain here. Wasn't planning on much of a run, if at all, but it'll probably be on the treadmill to test out my new shoes. Well, ok, unworn shoes. I got them at the same time as my current Saucony Kinvara 8's which have about 200 miles on them. Gotta try these "Fresh Foam" to see if they stay or go back, and the treadmill is a good "test track" for that purpose. In other news, I can't wait to go home and tell my kitty "I told you so!" because she didn't come back this morning when it was still kind of nice out and I told her it was going to rain and she was going to be an unhappy kitty. I can hear it now. "Meow! Meow! Meow! Meow! Meow! Meow!"

        Hello everybody!

This was the first day of cross country.  And, since I was injured last year trying to prepare for the Portland Marathon, I really didn't care what the workout was.  But, I'm healthy(er) this year and today was a speed workout.  So, I did a 2 miler with some JV kids then went and di my own thing.  It's harder to do speed workouts on the street than on the track.  I did okay, but not great.  I ended up with 7 miles, which included 4 x 3/4 miles in the 4:34 to 4:50 range.  It's going to be tough coaching and trying to train at the same time...I'll figure it out, though.

Okay--4:00 comes early...well...it actually comes at the same time everyday...around 4:00...see ya!

"Meow! Meow! Meow! Meow! Meow! Meow!"

Those are some pretty harsh words for a cat.

I'm only running 3 days a week (at most) now instead of the 5 or 6 I used to run, so weekly mileage is pretty pitiful if you look at it without considering all things.  For example last week I ran a 4 and a 6 and missed the third day so only totaled 10 miles and felt inwardly ashamed at that, though I shouldn't.  Anyone else get that way?

Yeah, BTY, I feel that way all the time.  But, you got me motivated to actually go back and look at my running, or lack of it, on my Garmin log.  I have a 10K I'd like to do in 4 weeks, so that will be a challenge unless I get out there more than I have been. Like everyone else has said, you are a strong runner, not to mention swimming, and those Master Games.

I am not a great runner but stick with it to keep me from having to start over at square one which for me was running from one street light to the next, then gasping for breath for a minute (Repeat).  I am happy to say that I ran around the lake for the first time since May 1st, yikes! I had to take a walk break after just one minute but then was good for the rest of the 4.72 miles. I do think jet lag (and donating blood) have taken a toll on me but no excuses.. As Jlynne has posted from before... Joe Kelley's Runner's Commandment Number 1. "Don't be a whiner. It was fair week here in Nobles County last week.  I took a bunch of stuff out there; flowers, quilts, needlework and knitting.  I ended up with a bunch of 1st places (I think everyone gets a 1st or 2nd) plus a Champion for an advent calendar, a "Special Award" for a Loon wallhanging and a Reserve Champion for a knitted Christmas stocking. They even paid  me a total of $18.50!

One more thing, if anyone watches "So You Think You Can Dance", you could vote for Taylor.  Her grandparents live about 8 doors away from me, how cool is that???!!

And I tell ya, I got it, too! She was coming up the driveway when I came home and she ran in front of the car, then dashed under the boat trailer. I got out and called her and she came running up to me, yelling at me the whole time. Silly cat.

Good to see you back with the XC kids, Mike.

And good to see you back running, Starr! Nice job on the fair entries. I haven't done that in years. I entered some flowers and veggies a few years ago and won some 2nd and 3rd place prizes.

Got home kind of late but still wanted to finally try those shoes. So, 3.1 miles on the treadmill in the new Fresh Foam shoes. A little heel slippage but not bad. Just need to figure out the lacing and maybe wear thicker socks. I think I"ll keep 'em.
