WOW Henry, thanks for the Ed Whitlock update, . . . especially I didn’t realize how much I’m like him too (1) running without a “coach or a therapist or any of that . . in a very non-professional way.” (2) not getting that “huge a thrill out of going out and training” which is “kind of a drudge,” (3) not paying “strict attention to diet and takes no supplements,” (4) running “no music, no gadgets, and (5) almost always by himself” because he doesn’t “like to set a schedule to meet someone” but “just go out the door when I feel like going out the door” and, (6) once out, if “I don’t feel (it). I just quit.”

However, that's where any similarity ends as, compared to his recent 3:15 marathon at age 80,

I was ecstatic to get a 6:24 in last year’s Portland.

There's a wonderful article on Ed Whitlock in WSJ. I want to be like him when I grow up.

Especially with Marj at your side, you are every bit our hero too.

"Enjoy yourself. Your younger days never come again." 100yo T. Igarashi to me in geta at top of Mt. Fuji (8/2/87)
