Thanks Holly. Happy New Year everyone.
Saturday's run got shortened due to ice on the canal towpath. I guess I'll need to hit the streets for my long runs for the time being.
Not at it at all.
Hi All,
Just barely made it last week, but it is still the first time to crest 40 mpw in a few years. It is a great feeling, right RessurectedRunr? Still running indoors on the TM due to brutally cold (for us) weather here in Santa Fe.

I am just happy to be going into 2010 without an injury and with a decent base.
Here's hoping we all hit our marks in 2010.

Thanks again Holly for your efforts in keeping this thread moving along.
First week of my next 18 week marathon training schedule. This one will cap at 85 miles. An increase of 10 miles per week over my last 6 schedules where I maxed at 75 miles per week. Goal marathon is 5/9/10 Fort Collins Old Town Marathon, Fort Collins, CO (goal time 3:15). Although I will be running a few more as long training runs.
Mon: 5 miles - 4 miles recovery pace, nice and easy
Tues: 9 miles including 4m @ tempo - 12 miles including 4 miles @ (7:03 ave), legs felt very good, plus the movie was good so I ran a few extra.
Wed: 12 miles - 12.0 miles including 9.5 miles @ 7:25 pace (my hopeful MP), legs felt good even after yesterdays run.
Thurs: 10 miles - 7.0 miles recovery paced. Runnig short of time to get everything done, so cut the run short.
Fri: 10 miles - 13.5 miles just a little faster than recovery paced, but still fairly easy. had a little more time today.
Sat: 6 miles - 7.0 miles recovery paced
Sun: 17 miles - 10.0 miles aerobic paced, tummy not feeling very well so cut the run short.
Total: 65.7 miles
Holly - my 1/4 mile intervals last week were done with a 1/4 mile @ 8:30 pace "rest".

I see you're running a 50-miler on 5/22. That's quite a ramp-up in a short amount of time. I'm sure you already know this, but just be careful there.
Yes, the Jemez 50 is one of the toughest 50 milers, probably third behind Zane Grey and San Juan Solstice. But that also means that a good portion is hiking rather than running. It also help a lot that I can train on the course. I'm just planning to let my base creep up to 50 mpw over the next few months of easy TM, road and trail, then hit the high trails when the snow melts. Probably get serious about weekly tempo and repeats after a few more weeks at 40+. Most of my running career has been trail marathons/ultras rather than road races -- this is old hat in some ways but I also know how easy it is to get injured, especially AT. Thanks for the note. Thanks a bunch for managing this thread! The motivation is fantastic!!!

Thank you Holly. I'm thinking I will post here for awhile.
2009 was a year of recovery. The last few months of the year was spent building up a base and I would do 40 miles 2 or 3 weeks, then have a cut back week. Nearly 98% of my miles were at a jog pace. My current "training" plan is to get in 40-45 miles a week and progressively run harder increasing my pace. I want to start tossing in some progressively longer runs and get built back up to half marathon shape.
Philippians 4:13.
Happy New year!
Back in Ohio after two weeks in Fla .... Grey skies ... cold and snow Oh well May is just right around the corner ... right.
Managed 25 miles last week and actually felt good at end of last two runs ... its been a long time since feeling good.
Probably going to ease back into thing probably aim for 30ish for first two weeks of Jan and Build to 40 on way to first race of 2010 March 7th - Catch a Leprecaun 15K (Only 15K in area for the year so have a soft 1:21 PR to smash) ; then on to 2 - 3 Halfs in April and May to hopefully get sub 1:40 as primary goal for 2010.
If can achieve decent speed at 15k to half will make a another run at Fall 2010 Marathon. Will be nice having a season with out the beast looming.
"It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it Great!
Holly,
I'll need a free pass this week as I've been sick with cold, cough, bronchitis, crud. Hopefully I'll be better next week.

I didn't have a pre-set plan going into this week, since I ran an impromptu half marathon on the 31st. Here's how the week played out (40.7 miles total):
recovery
Often injured, NEVER giving up.
Scott,
Yes, it is a great feeling! Congrats on making it over 40! I just had my third 40+ mile week in a row. I don't think I've even done that, even back in my high-school days. Like you, I'm feeling good. Keep it up!
