National Running Day - Wed. June 2 master runs and whatever ... (Read 559 times)

National Running Day?  Glad I got out there.

Slo - 26 lbs??  And I thought Ziggy was a porky.  My guess is he's pushing 14 lbs.  Wilson - he's starting to expand, as well.  I've told The Hub to quit giving them so many "kitty treats" when he comes home on his break, but at usual, he won't listen to me.  Goof and Chico aren't exactly model thin, and Mister Mister thinks he's hiding his small amount of bulk under long hair.  The only one who doesn't look like he's overeating is the The Troll he lives under our deck.  Yes folks, 5.5 cats.  Bordering at ridiculous.

Holly - I'm going to echo everyone else re going out hard in the beginning, but run the race you feel is appropriate for you.  Stay well hydrated, eat, and don't forget the salt.

Due to continued lackluster legs, I did 30 min of stationary biking yesterday, followed by an hour of upper and core strength training only.  No leg work.  Today was suppose to be 10 miles with strides, and I managed about 8.25 in the same amount of time I was doing 10 during my training for AR50.  It's getting frustrating, and right now I'm not looking forward to Saturday's 18 miles.

I've been cutting back a bit on my food intake to try and lose the extra 8 lbs that mysteriously found their way to me, but it's not so much that it should be affecting my stamina.  At any rate, I'll just keep playing around with ideas and see what sticks.

3 national but still quite sproinky miles for me tonight.

      Leslie,

I also am cutting weight while getting back to my normal running miles. I have this great plan:

Actually I have no plan...I am probably restricting my calories to much but what better time than when my milage is so low. I can never lose weight when in my regular summer running mode.   Good luck!

I always wanted a Garfield type cat, Big, Fat, Orange and likes lasagna! Our Cat is a very normal size but I love her anyway.

      Holly,

You could probably write your own book on running so who am I to give advice to you, but I will anyway, I think you are somewhat thinking correctly the less time you are out there on a hot day the better. As long as you don't try for a new PR in the first 10k anyway.

Everybody have a National Running Day kinda run today

looks like I won't get in a run today. it's pouring out there and really my only opportunity to run today was a lunchtime and that didn't work out too well. . . so have I just sabotaged everything by taking two rest days in a row only 3 days out from a marathon? . . . that's what i'm feeling like . . . yeah, taper madness is setting in like crazy right now . . . even last night, lying in bed reading Born to Run, my upper quad muscle was twitching constantly. even my muscles are going taper crazy . . .

Welcome, VCMCD...can I offer you a vowel or two?

A 26-pound cat. What's it look like...a basketball that purrs?

I knew then forgot that it was National Running Day. Did five easy miles, 'bout the same pace as Breger.

          Renee the dog

It took Renee and I 33 min to run 2 miles tonight! (Only 17 min were running)  The rest of the minutes were chatting with folks in town, who were also out to run or walk with their dogs.

Celebrated National Running Day with the first official run of my marathon training plan:  2.2 miles at a 14:40 pace.  Yep, you read that right, 14:40 pace.  I RAN WITH WHAT I GOT and that's what I got right now.  No excuses, no apologies, no looking forward or back.  Just staying in the moment and working the plan.

No foot pain, either.  Smile  Although the AT is swollen.  Stretching and ice before bed.

Chilling now, listening to James Taylor and Carole King on PBS.  Bliss.

I celebrated National Running Day with a 4.5 mile trail run on a new trail in a new park!  (well, new for me!)  I love exploring new trails!    Very pretty, green, and hilly, just the way I like it!

I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.

so happy there is a day for us!!

track tonight -- intervals of 400 or 800 - coaches had us predict our time before each interval and see how close we came to our prediction ......... needless to say -- I BOMBED It -- i am terrible at predicting my pace........oh well - with warm up, intervals and cooldown i managed to get 4 miles in today!!

tomorrow - graduation day for my son's high school (i dont have a graduate this year so will be busy with helping to organize the setup/decorations)  -- really hope those thunderstorms hold out and they dont have to delay it til friday --- either way the ALL NIGHT GRAD PARTY goes on because of all the entertainment and food we have booked so even tho i'm not going to work tom. night i am still pulling an all nighter!!

erika -- me normal?? i guess i was on good behavior!

edited to add -- this is too funny ........ had my garmin on during the intervals even tho i was honest about not looking at it for pace and blindly hit the lap button at the start and end of each interval   HOWEVER  you all probably know most errors on this end are USER ERRORS ...... somehow i hit one lap to show 225.68 ft in 3:56 (avg pace of 59:59) and then somehow left my garmin on so it lapped .56 miles in  2:01:17!!    like i said........technologically challenged (illiterate) here!!

Tammy, I know what you mean, but I'm not tapering! I've already had way too many non-running days in the last 10 days! But try as I might, I just couldn't do it tonight. Headed out from DH's office after dropping off the car with him, temps were 81, skies clear and sunny where I was, but dark and ominous clouds hanging out where I was headed. The forecast called for sporadic thundershowers with strong wind gusts and hail, but it didn't look bad when I started, so off I went.

I barely made it 3 miles (2.98 to be exact, per Garmin) and the wind was so strong I felt like I was running in place! DH stopped by (pre-arranged water stop) and offered a ride. Sure! We drove around trying to get out of the storm (they're very localized around here, 50 feet away could've been calm and dry) but no good. So, we head for home. Realized it had just finished raining at one point so he stopped and I got out, planning to run another 7 and ending up at home. Ha. I barely made it a mile before it started to rain... HARD. So I said Heck with this, turned around and went back to our road, started the 2.25 mile slog up the hill. It started to rain Harder. Then HAIL. And Lightning. Yikes. This was awful. I got hit in the eye by a chunk of hail and said that's it. Turned tail, pulled my shirt over my head and stood huddled on the bikepath, waiting for it to pass.

A woman pulled up on the road and yelled at me: "Get in the car!!" Who was I to argue? She even had towels on the seat and in a bag. Her daughter in a booster seat next to me dug another towel out of a bag and said "Here, you need this." Sweet kid. It was so nice of this woman. Turns out she lives right up the hill from me, so not a big deal to drop me off. It was pouring hard when I got home. DH and DS2 were up on the roof cleaning out the gutters. The cat was yowling loudly in the covered porch, mad at being wet and scared of the rain on the plastic roof.

After a hot shower and a glass of wine, I felt human again. And, wouldn't you know it? Half an hour later, it was calm and sunny again. A beautiful night for a run! But, nope, I need to make dinner and do stuff around the house. Damn it. My planned 9-10 miler ended up at 4.35 and that's all it will be. Tomorrow's another day, right? (oh, we drive to Anchorage tomorrow so maybe no time to run... again)

Celebrated National Running Day with the first official run of my marathon training plan:  2.2 miles at a 14:40 pace.  Yep, you read that right, 14:40 pace.

What a nice start for your marathon on National Running Day.  Especially thank you for not apologizing

for a 14:40 pace.  That's faster than 16 of my last 22 marathons.  One was a 21:11 pace (and the faster ones weren't that much faste either).  however,  I'll never apologize for ever running as much as i can in any marathon or longer..

It's kind of too bad, if not unbelievable, that the only place I ever heard of Natoinal Running Day was on RA.  thanks headbandbyll

hope you have time to check out the tank trail (and come back in two weeks!).

I Celebrated National Running Day by limping my 4 mile loop. first 2 painfull last 2 pain free. As I seemed to beat the hip pain into submission. Of course this morning had a hard time getting out of bed.

"If you run, you are a runner. It doesn't matter how fast or how far. It doesn't matter if today is your first day or if you've been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run."
