Wintry West Coast Wonderland - Sunday (12/08) (Read 38 times)

Hey, Guys - I'm still around, just haven't had a whole lot of computer time.  And I find that once I get home at night, I'm not really wanting to get on the thing after being on it all day at work.

Anyway - I've been trying to keep up with everyone.  You're all still moving, so that's a positive!

We've been getting some unseasonably cold weather here, as well.  Tonight it's suppose to dip down to 21, which we don't see very often.  I had a 10-miler on the McKay Tract about  mid-morning, and it was trying to snow on me.  That's very rare.  I think we've seen snow here at sea level 3 times the whole 26 years we've lived here.

Today my dad and I drive down to my brother's place in Healdsburg, then Monday, we all are going down to Palo Alto to Standford Medical Center to see the back specialist about my dad's back.  If you all could please says some prayers, we're hoping they can something for him to alleviate even a little bit of his pain.

We went down to Yuma the week of Thanksgiving and drove home the Friday after.  That night, Shorty's mom fell and broke her hip.  It wasn't a bad break, but her overall health is not good at all.  She was moved to a rehab facility today, and they expect she'll be there for a minimum of four weeks.  We all think rehab is the absolute best place she can before awhile 'cause they'll make her get up and move around and eat, which she hasn't been doing.  It's a long drawn out story, but prayers are needed there, as well,  and for my SIL who is having to deal with all this.  It's too far away for us to be any use,

I've been running, but not logging my runs.  I think had a whopping 20 miles this past week.  Been trying to get my tendinitis calmed down again, so have been taking it easy on that front.

So that''s my story for now.  Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all ~

Good to hear from you Leslie.  I hope things go better with parents on both sides.

Busy week so I haven't been able to pop in here much but I'd long ago signed up for our local half so it was out early to do that.  It's the 8th time I run this race so I know it like the back of my hand.  Big downhills in the first two miles then...wait, what?!!  I gotta pay more attention; it was a totally new course this year and I had no idea!  The RD, who I know, took advantage of a new paved running trail and reconfigured the middle 8 miles or so. It's quite nice and now follows the river for a bit.  The trademark "heart attack hill" going past the hospital ER entrance in mile 12 is still there but the flight of wooden steps down to a canal path is gone, which is fine with me.  Anyhow, got it done and managed a (distant) 3rd AG (of 38) @ 1:38:21.  I was quite pleased with that, especially given last week's marathon.

We dodged a bullet on the weather.  30F at the start and there were waves of snow, sleet, and rain during the race but it was all brief and didn't add up to much.  I think the worst is scheduled for later today.

      Have a good Sunday.

P.S. If you're looking to be reminded of our good fortune in being able to run, here's a nice piece on my next door neighbor who was the victim of a freak accident earlier this year.  You never know.  He's working hard at the recovery but it's a tough haul.

      Be safe. Be kind.

It's been awhile since I've been here, but wanted to share with everyone here the latest venture with my 5th grade running group. I combined their day yesterday with my newfound obsession with iMovie trailers. We had 17 students complete a 5k yesterday, a first for many of them.

That "trailer" is fantastic, Craneium!  I bet the kids get a huge kick out of that.  Well done.

          Be safe. Be kind.

Nice race Tramps.   Best wishes for your neighbor.

Nice job with the kids Craneium!

Thoughts & prayers for your MIL Leslie.

            Enjoy!

Courage ! Do one brave thing today...then run like hell.

Quick post as I head out the door to a cookie swap - will try to get back on later if I'm not in a sugar coma!!

9.5 mile leg for my Mill Cities Relay team - 1:17:52 for an 8:10 avg pace, then a .5 mile cool-down -- very happy with that push today!!

Love doing relay races - our running group had 12 teams entered and the team spirit was in full gear.  Mill Cities is 26.2 miles, 5 legs and is only open by invitation to running clubs (of which there are many invited) - so fun!!

Catch ya later - off to taste some cookies, although not too many as I didnt bake any to swap, just want to be social -- hehehe!!

Saying some prayers for you and your family Leslie.

Nice HM after a marathon Tramps. That is some story about your neighbor. Lemonade from lemons.

                Love the trailer 5k.

                Nice sarge.

I stayed indoors and ran 13.3 watching Arsenal and Everton play a very good match. Glad I have my soccer to take my mind off the treadmill.

                Cheers all.

                  Good day, everyone!

Best wishes to your dad and MIL, Leslie, and to your SIL too for the extra responsibility on her shoulders. One of DW's aunts broke 5 ribs after her 90th birthday party a couple of weeks ago. Her problem (if you can call it that) is that she is always on the go, but sometimes moves to fast for her own good, and causes injuries like this. But I love her always-positive attitude.

Congrats on the hardware in your half, Tramps. Very impressive, coming a week after a marathon! Very sad story about your neighbor. But it sounds like if anybody can pull out of this, he's the guy.

Fun movie, Craneium! I'm glad to see the kids are still running and doing well. They must have an inspiring coach.

We picked up a new person at our racewalking training session yesterday. I had seen her walking at the indoor track last year, so yesterday we both said 'hi' and then started talking. She's a quick power walker who we'll try to make into a quicker and more efficient racewalker.

10.4 racewalking miles at 4 o'dark this morning. It was 25F and calm when I started, and 22 with a windchill of 15 when I finished. It was only a problem because the drop in temp and extra breeze caused my hands to get too cold. Otherwise, it was a nice workout, spent exploring some different side streets and setting off lots of motion-detector lights and causing many dogs to start barking. After stretching and showering, DW and her niece and I went to our favorite dive for breakfast and then the niece headed back to NY state. DW and I got a great Christmas tree for a great price at the local Agway, and will get it set up this afternoon. We'll also finish decorating the outside of the house, so lots to do today.

Have a greta Sunday, and b mindful of the weather.

                    Craneium - LOVE IT!!

Tramps, very moving article. Hopefully your neighbor will make progress.

Leslie, sorry to hear about all the parent issues.

Another gorgeous sunny and cold day.

                        Bad faerie

Good day, all.  Still unusually cold in Victoria, but nothing like the crazy temps inland.

I had an hour's frolic at my favourite park.  In absolute terms, was ridiculously slow.  In relative terms, was a good strong effort over ridiculous terrain.  I'm starting to feel like a runner again, although a very, very slow one.

5.4 Remi miles, and a detour to the library ala Tortuga, but the CD I had on hold wasn't there.

Today's Remi finding to take home was a large conifer cone.  A stick or pine cone is his default prize.

Last week it was a slice of pizza.

He has found lots of lacrosse balls in the past.

Remember my power supply died?  Well, spent some time last night learning about the inside of my computer and managed to swap power supplies.  I had to remove the fan, the optical drive, the pocket drive holder, the hard drive, the hard drive case......I was convinced I'd never be able to do this properly, was sure it wouldn't work when I reassembled it (minus a screw I lost), but it did!!!  I rock!

I really enjoyed that movie Cranium. Very professional looking.

Sad story about your neighbor Tramps. He's gpt a better attitude than I could muster in that situation.

We've been cold here but no problems otherwise.  I ran a mile this morning.  I was going to run 2.5 and get another 30 mile week, but I took too long getting reaady and I was afraid I would be late to church if I went the little bit more than I did.  I am the "usher coordinator" so I have to be there a little bit early.

I got wore some shoes I haven't worn in a while and they were rubbing my heel.  I could have switched but those were my warm gortex shoes amd it was 10 degrees.  So I got some moleskin and put it on my heels.  It worked, but I frittered my time away.

I watched some of the Lions-Eagles game in a blizzard in Philly.  Crazy stuff in that first half before it started to let up.

Congratulations on the computer surgery Enke.  Glad it went back together alright and worked.
