Thurs. 1/29 - Sick of cold weather runs and such ..... (Read 565 times)

Mr. Chip & Mizz Rizzo

Good Morning!! Brinkley and I ran a virtual 5K race this morning to the best of our ability on the snow covered roads. He was in the lead the whole time until the last .10 he suddenly slowed down as if to let me win. I think he just had some snow packed in his paw though. Bottom line - I won!! Big grin 28:46 - 9:17 avg. pace which is smokin' for me lately. Cheers! Oh - it was 12° this morning with light wind.

    Trails are hard!

Nice to have a dog who's a good sport Smile Nice speedy run for those temps. It's also easier to comment on everyone's runs when you post before 8am Wink

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

Good Morning Mary and stumpy77 ..and everyone else to follow. Funny, I am not in the least bit tired of running in this weather Roll eyes....you guys are wussies Big grin Hum, virtual 5K Mary.... Confused wouldn't that mean you really didn't run. But rather being something in effect, even if not in reality or not conforming to the generally accepted definition of the term. OK, you either did run a good 5K, or you imagined you did Big grin. Regardless, nice run Mary in some cold temps....funny when you said it was if the Brinkster let you win. If I were running with someone as pretty as you, I would let you win too Wink Speaking of doggies....Roy and Woody gone from RA Sad Whew, greta news getting out of bed this morning. I was actually almost scared to take those first steps out of bed because of messing my foot up. But to my surprise, my foot felt remarkably good and I walked around being able to push off from my left / affected foot with really no pain Smile Smile Smile. Still won't run / walk again till Saturday to be on the safe side....again, Whew. I went to the Y last night to lift weights and core work, and low and behold I saw " Brick House Lady" . Due to my bad luck around Women right now, I stayed as far away from her as I could, and all other wimmin actually. Buuut, I had to at least say hi to her. I walked up to her and asked if she remembered me - she said sure with a ornery smile. So as we began to "make out" umm, mean talk more. I learned quite about this gal. I asked her....what are you about 28 or MAYBE 30 years old (hey, I knew she was older, but women love to be flattered that way...I'm no dummy) she gave me a huge smile and said - ahhhh, that is so sweet, but I am 37 years old. I said you don't have a ring on, are you single or involved right now - she said she was going through a divorce since her DH passed away a few months ago. I said I am sooo very sorry. I said if you would ever like to talk, just give me a call...as I gave her my cell number. I said I could relate to a divorce, because I went though one where I felt like I got my heart ripped out of my chest...and my wallet too Angry. Oh well, I talked to her and nothing bad happened to me at the Y last night Cool....oh yeah, her name is Nicolette if I am spelling that right. Ok, in this paragraph, what was the odd thing that was said that made no since???? Oh yeah RE: a tape of me and my treadmill blunder. Steve, my friend at the Y, said there are some legal problems giving me a tape with other people on it due to security issues, but said he is still working on it....fingers crossed. Hope everyone has good runs, and a awesome day!!! Charmer TimBo

        Hill Runner

Good morning all, Nice running Mary. I'm not bragging but we DO have the best running weather here in NC! Smile It was....35 & sunny when I finished my run. My headlamp went out in the middle of my run so I ran by radar until the sun started coming up. It seems that when it get's in the 30's, the batteries just don't hold up well. 8.40 miles of hills @ 9:15 pace... I really enjoyed the whole run this morning. Everything felt great which is when I start getting worried...! Good runs to everyone today.

          Upcoming Races:

          Boston Marathon, Boston,MA 04/15/13
          Grandfather Mountain Marathon,Boone NC 07/14/13
Thunder Road Marathon, Charlotte NC 11/13

I'd have to argue that "best running weather" statement Peter. Hard to beat S. Fla. this time of year. Today was cross training day. So went to the gym early. A half hour of rowing and a half hour of light leg work and core stuff. Rowing really gets the sweat going but the breathing never seems to rise above a recovery run type level. Maybe I'm not rowing fast enough. Tim, "she was going through a divorce since her DH passed away a few months ago"? What's that about? Bill

            Trails are hard!

yeah, that was a bit of a head scratcher Confused

Very easy 5.5 on the TM this am. Put my Superfeet Greens in my Glycerins. Didn't like how they felt but my shin's not bothering me right now. We'll see how it goes. Black eye MTA: the weather is actually warming up over the next week here in greater Boston. We'll get above 40°!. But this morning was dangerous; a sheet of ice everywhere. We had 6 inches of snow followed by soaking rain. It was like shoveling cake batter out of the driveway last night. Anything left froze overnight. Saw a guy wipeout on the sidewalk while I was running on the TM. Looked like it hurt.

Love the title this morning......So True ! Last night I did a 6.6 miler in single digit temps. I should have paid attention to the speed and direction of the wind. It was a miserable trip home. This afternoons run will be in 20 deg temps and I have low 30's to look forward to for this weekend ! Almost shorts weather !
Definitely some good runs this morning. Tim - I think Bill nailed it (the odd thing), right? Speaking of cold weather runs, the main roads were generally clear, but the cul-de-sacs were icy from yesterday's snow/sleet/freezing rain/melt/refreeze. I ran as carefully as I could, trying to change direction only on the dry spots. As it was I feel lucky I fell only once, hard on my right elbow and left knee. I'm ok, though -- nothing broken. Well, my elbow is a little sore but that's just pain, right? Smile 13.2 miles, 1:56:21, 8:50/mi, AHR 145. This was progression with targets MP+20%, MP+15%, MP+10%, but I ran a little faster than that. Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning! Hopeful – that’s an excellent time on snow-covered roads! Tim – good news about your foot, and (I think) about the lady... Erika - I'm sitting here bemoaning the fact that the forecast for my LR Saturday is for 2°, and here you’re running in 27° below zero - yowza! Switching around my week a bit, and did my x-training day today. 3 easy-paced miles on the TM, followed by: 1.Alternating side lunges (20L, 20R), bench step-ups (20L, 20R). 2. Weighted squats (30), weighted ballet squats (30), split squats (20L, 20R). 3. Single leg bridges (30L, 30R), forward lunges (20L, 20R) And then dumbbell curls, lateral raises, bent rows, push-ups, superman lifts, butterflies, and stability ball crunches. Re - Imodium – I know what your doctor told you, Tim, but I’ve used it before 5 marathons and 4 HMs and never had any noticeable negative effects from it. The alternative for me is to make a stop every 5-6 miles, or worse. I’ve seen runners who didn’t find a port-o-potty in time. I don’t want that to be me, so I’ll take my chances with Imodium.

Peter I know what you mean.. It's scary if everything feels perfect. I remember in 2006 telling my coworker that everything feels perfect. The next day I pulled a hamstring during speedwork. WRFB...Nice half marathon before breakfast! Nice here in the triangle 36F for the run of 4 Magical healing Miles with Tory in 38:15 (9:34 pace, AHR 143) followed by 4 x 10 sec hill sprints and then a bunch of planks and leg work.

biketm you might want to clear up that sentence before this gets out of hand! Necrophilia is never very attractive. Although the amorous subjects usually do not divorce you . . . Big grin Here is the quick rundown of my medical story to date. Monday I had an MRI. Tuesday the orthopedist cancelled my Wednesday appointment with him and told me to see the spinal specialist in his group. I am thinking, yes! A diagnosis! I would happily take a herniated disk at this point. On Tuesday my (new) urologist takes a quick look at my MRI and tells me he thinks I have a herniated disk! Ok, we are on a roll. This morning at 8am I go to see the spinal doctor he brings in a picture from the MRI and tells me my spine looks fine and that I should return to the orthopedist. Great! Roll eyes Back to square one. Nobody knows what is wrong with me, what caused it, how to fix it, or how long it will take to fix. Next the orthopedist wants me to see a neurologist. Not good. My next hope is the neurologist finds nothing; since when they find something you are in real trouble! So, in the meantime I will continue to do the various exercises and stretches for back injuries on the grounds that it cannot hurt. If you need my you will find me during the working at Frustrations-R-Us. Just give the place a call.

I picked up on the same oddity in Tim's post and had to re read it slowly a few times to make sure I was reading it right. 2Cat - that's frustrating that neither of the docs can find out what the problem is. I hope you get some answers soon! I ran 5 mi on the TM last night after work. Strangest thing happened too . . . I noticed the guy on the TM next to me glancing over my way so I looked his way, thinking maybe we knew each other and all of a sudden, he went flying off the back, legs crumpled up against the back wall, face hitting the back of the belt. Dang, poor guy. Looked like a nasty belt burn too. My 5 miles was pretty uneventful - did a few slow miles, a few fast miles, but still only averaged out about a 9:30 min/mile. oh, and I'm just kidding about the guy flying off the TM. . . a 42 yr old woman can dream though right . . . . Wink
