    Mornin' everyone.

Bioguy (or someone else) will have to do yesterday's wrap-up cause I got, got, got no time.

Great to see Econo posting again! Maybe singing will help my snoring. Only problem is that I can't sing on key to save my life. Maybe I can sing when I'm in the car. Alone. With the windows up. And the radio turned up.

Interesting article about getting to sleep quickly, Stumpy. It seems that all those tricks to relax your body would also clear your mind. I rarely have a problem catching a cat nap. Neither does our cat.

Sounds like a great service and send-off, KSA. Good of you to be there.

The bed magnet almost got me this morning, but I went out anyway. About half a mile in, I questioned if I wanted to keep going, or turn around and head home. Without a clear answer, I kept going. After my first fartlek mile (mile 2), I was tired and almost turned around there. After 4 miles, I figured I might as well keep going because it was no shorter to turn around than to complete the loop. So 7.3 RW fartlek miles in 32° temps, with a hazy, nearly-fool moon still high enough to give some light.

OK, off to this morning's 3-hr. meeting. Ohboy, ohboy, ohboy...

    Have a greta Thursday!

    Jay

Without ice cream there would be darkness and chaos.

Way to keep going, Jay.  It really does seem that 80% of the battle is just getting out there.

Partial bed magnet issues this morning- got up but not early enough to do much.  2.8 on the treadmill done.  Pouring rain outside.  Thunder overnight and the big, old doggie headed for his safe place in the back hallway.    (2.2 miles on the treadmill after work so 5 for the day)

My fast triathlete son was running in Philadelphia early last evening and a young kid threw a rock at the back of his head.  Attacks on runners and cyclists was a real problem in Philadelphia-  usually groups of young teens.  They cleaned it up somewhat with a lot of police presence, but it still happens.  Anyway- my son posted on Strava that "After that near miss, the kid hilariously tried to run from me..."  My son has a full picture of the kid.  I don't think I want to know the rest of the story.    Be careful out there.

      Trails are hard!

That sucker would not let go for me this morning.    tomorrow looks like it might be back to shorts weather, finally, so hope that's the inspiration I need.

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

xray results show no stress fx, so I guess what I'm feeling is "normal" soreness post exercise.  Although I'm wondering if maybe I should re-evaluate the type of running shoe I'm in. I've been in a neutral shoe for the last couple yrs, but perhaps I need to go back to more of a stability shoe. I do overpronate (not extreme, but it's there) and maybe that inward ankle roll of an overpronator, is stressing that lower shin and ankle area which is where I'm feeling the concentration of the soreness and where I'm seeing some of the post-run swelling.

Ran 5 yesterday after work and will run some more tonight also. Should be mid 70's today!

            That’s great news Tammy!

Great news, Tammy.  As you know, but I have feel compelled to say, change shoes slowly so you don't screw yourself up.

KSA -   About 2 yrs ago I was running down Elk River Road, a truck flew by me, and a rock hit me in the front of the head.  I know it was thrown because of the angle at which it came at me and where it hit me.  Boy was I PO'd, but they were gone before I could react.  It sounds like your son caught up with the kid . . . .

5 semi-torturous miles this morning.  I just have not slept well the last 3 nights and it took everything inside me to pull myself out of bed this morning.  The miles felt hard and I had to drop down to a walk a number of times to get my breathing under control, etc., but I did it and that's the main thing.  Tomorrow's supposed to be another core/ST day, but I think I'm going to limit what I do and give my body a bit of a break since I will be running Sat/Sun.  It's been awhile since I've had B2B days.

This article came out in the online edition of Ultra Running Magazine.  Rob Krar has been very open about his struggles with depression.  The article is by his wife, Christine, and focuses on how depression affects the loved ones.

xray results show no stress fx,

I thought stress fractures did not usually show up in an x-ray, but that you had to get an MRI.  Am I remembering that wrong?

All the deadlines I am going to make this month are done, and those I was unable to complete were for reasons beyond my control, so those are being pushed off until next month.  This month has been super-busy and I am burnt out.  Can't wait until Saturday when DH and I head to Punta Cana for 6 days with another couple.

DD's lacrosse team won last night 10 to 9 in overtime in a very exciting game.  She plays again tonight.

                4.6 miles on the TM.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Stress fractures will eventually show up on xray, but not for a long time.   You are correct.

Glad it isn't a stress fracture, but be careful anyway.  Do you maybe need more cushioning in your shoes?

Leslie- that's scary about the rock!  Why do people want to do that?

Tammy, it could still be a stress fracture. My x-rays looked fine, but he was sure it was a stress fracture and ordered an MRI. I decided if he was sure, why spend $1,500 on an MRI? (yes, I checked how much it would cost) So I've just treated it like it was, and think I might go back for a followup and another x-ray to see if anything shows up now, over 3 months later. I'm still having some residual soreness/swelling but am just taking a very slow approach to returning to running.

The rock in Leslie's case was probably thrown by a tire. That happens here a lot because we "sand" the roads in winter with small gravel. Lots of windshield cracks around here! I get pelted by little stones quite often in the springtime if I run on the road shoulders.

                    Great to see Econo!

I did a short elliptical workout yesterday. The machines I wanted to use were taken and it was late anyway. Very uninspired workout. The net result of this time off from running has been a big loss of endurance/stamina and a gain of about 4 pounds. Given what I've been doing, it seems like a lot cuz I've been working out as much as I can! Very frustrating. But, today is a run day and it's supposed to be warm and sunny so I'll head out after last meeting for another 4 mile or so run.

Leslie said she could tell it was thrown (deliberately) because of the angle.

KSA - sounds like a beautiful service for your runner friend. I just don't get why kids think it's funny to throw rocks at runners and cyclists!!

I have a ? about your running streak - why so many 2x/day workouts/runs? Is it part of a certain training plan you are following or just something you enjoy?

                        Hi Econo!!

Great job Jay - sounds like your hip issues have resolved!

1.1 easy mile with the granddog - we are dogsitting while her parents are away visiting friends. The granddaughters may get picked up earlier than normal this afternoon and if they do I may try to sneak out for another few miles with Lexi before church tonight. I didn't get to sleep until 12:30 this morning so no early workout for me. My body needs it's sleep!!

                        denise

Forgot to update about my friend's husband - Monday night they changed his status to "Wanted" and said he was purposely avoiding being found. Tuesday morning we found out he was in custody for charges of child pornography. So devastating for his wife, kids and friends. My heart breaks especially for Lori and her teenage kids!!

                          denise

The "granddog" remark makes me  for two reasons: (1) someone gave my dad a little pillow years ago that says, "You mean to tell me my grandchild is a cat?" and I still have it, and (2) one of the associate attorneys in our office absolutely hates when people say their pet is like their child, etc.  Drives him nuts.  I keep wondering if I should tell him the terms "baby daddy" or "baby mommy", which he has used on numerous occasions, drives me equally crazy. It takes all kinds to make the world go 'round, I suppose.

When the rock incident happened, at first I thought it might be from a tire or the truck bed, but I was running against traffic so they were driving at me and I saw it come from the direction of the passenger window.  Boy howdy, was I mad!  The rest of my run had a little more vigor in my step from the adrenaline.
