Mornin' everyone!
Wow - some great photos yesterday from AD, TC, and Tet! The costumes look great, as does the foliage (sadly, on it's way out up here), and I am always amazed by that photo of K. Switzer, not only for what is going on, but also with how people running a marathon dressed back then.
We found out last night that we won't have to modify the course for our Seacoast Half (Nov. 10) because a bridge on the course that was planned to be closed by the end of this month now won't close till the week after the race. What a huge relief! The reconstruction is supposed to last 12-15 months, so it'll be an issue next year, but 95% of the planning for the alternate course is done, so it won't be quite as stressful then as it has been for the last few months. Now, I have to concentrate on our 5K this Saturday. We have about 1,030 entries, and we top out at 1,200, so there is still a slight possibility that we'll sell out.
Our conservation commission meeting last night was productive, but very long at 3.5 hours. I didn't get to bed till close to 11, and then it took me a while to settle down. So a 4 o'dark workout this morning wasn't happening.
OK. Gotta' go.
Jay
Without ice cream there would be darkness and chaos.
It's tomorrow
8 slow paced miles in sub freezing temps this am. Frost on pumpkin.
We've had two days of hard frost. Pretty much finished off the flower bed.
Great Pic's from yesterday. I always enjoy the pictures.
How are those meetings going Jay...sounds like something is getting you worked up. I hate being pasionate about something and people not seeing things the way I do. I've gotten much better at not letting it stress me out but now I am working on my argument skills.
Trails are hard!
6 slow miles this morning in 38°. Hat and gloves felt good, but still hanging in with shorts. May have to go to the attic for the winter gear shortly.
Need a fast half for late fall. Then I need to actually train for it.
7 zombileks miles for me up and down Kermel grade. It was dark when I left the house with the moon faintly lighting my path. It was spookie to be running out side of town with no street light and zombies run playing in my ear. One zombies horde caught me .
Twocat, you have one beautiful track in your town. Green with envy here. Your fall foliage is magnificent too.
Enkie, thinking of you sistahhh.
Off to work. Another long day with some travel.
"Champions are everywhere; all you need is to train them properly..." ~Arthur Lydiard
A little warmer here than for Slo and colder than stumpy, and Mariposai didn't give a weather report.
After yesterday's wardrobe rearrangement, I woke up today not remembering where anything was and had to open every drawer to find various pieces of gear for a cold morning run. Anyway, I made it to the rendezvous in time for our 8-mile Wednesday rural-road run. Felt a little sluggish, but that might have been due to a speedy pace-setter that has (as I found out) about 25 years on me.
Didn't someone here do the Nike Women's HM in SF last weekend? That's where Ms. Speedy was just back from and apparently didn't need to recover. But it was a good outing in any case with a great group of runners.
I hope the rest of you can get in a good run today!

4.5 miles of hill work - was happy that it hadn't started raining yet
Jay - good luck selling out! It looks like we are away that week-end, but I was trying to move our schedule around to run your race. Very disappointed. Really, really, really disappointed.
DG's post about names reminds me of a skit - "you can call me Ray, or you can call me Jay, etc ... but you don't have to call me Johnson" Anyone else remember that?

Sure is.
I am getting work done without it being a terrible mental struggle.
I jogged over to the gym, had a pretty good workout, and then jogged home. Total of 2.4 miles.
It's funny what thoughts come into your head out of nowhere. On the jog home I was thinking about the half mary I would like to run in Tallahassee next February. Then I thought about what states I have run half marys in (Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Nevada, South Dakota) and wondering how many I could add to that total over the next few years.....
The more I say/type "half mary" the more I like it.
Only working a few hrs this morning, then off to pick up David from school and we are helping out at the HS XC District meet. David had his District meet yesterday and did well, despite a 'zola budd, mary decker' type incident in the last 100m that unfortunately appeared to be targeted at David, but he still finished 5th with a PR of 10:30. Would have been 4th with about a 10:20 time, but it's all good. I'm proud of David for getting up, sprinting to the finish and modeling good sportsmanship, even when bad sportsmanship on the part of another athlete and then this athlete's father, were directed at David.

Mid-30's and raining this morning, so I ran on the TM watching Hangover II. Then the rain turned to snow, just for a bit, but didn't stick.
5 miles for me this morning.
Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."
Half-Mary!!
Good to think about goals like that.
Ran 5.2 foggy dark miles this morning. I need to get back onto a routine.
Sorry, I haven't kept up in the dailies. I am sure there are lots of awesome things to reply to.
For those who like drama:
Got my dating pink slip from Door#3 - I was expecting it, as I sensed something was up (someone else appeared on the scene). Had a big boo hoo on the weekend, then got over it. I am meeting Door#4 this weekend. His profile sounds like it could have been written by Door#3, scary. But you know, I'd really like to meet a runner. Unfortunately all the men in my running club are married.
Carry on...

Hey all,
Holly - you sound like me now. Except I go to the cardio cinema. I watched Van Helsing for 4 miles today. Now all my horror genres are mixed up - it was kind of like a horror smoothie. Also did a spinnerooni and a half hour of fizzy lifting.
Enke - sorry to hear the drama. But just remember monsters inc - there's lots of doors out there.
LaT - nice cone of shame. You can call me Ray was on Natural Light commercials. I think he was on Sanford & Son as well. It was a late 70's gimmick.
Ever want to post but just not have time? (ever want to post & have time?? )
this is a pretend post.
Jay I've thought about that too, regarding names.
Mariposai.. thanks, at least twice. I'm behind. I loved your pictures. I haven't forgotten about May!! will do my very best. with the help of duct tape threats from Carolyn ; ).
Kirsten I love your march marathon plan! I may be in. (but I may still be 'in'... the plan I was asking about was how you're going to spring me.)
tw... last time I prwb, I realized that I wasn't breathing very fully, what with the belt & the water & all. So I worked on that.... and I went UP and down & UP & down. I've never yet participated in a Half-Mary. Dave which Half-Mary's would you recommend?Taggy nice pictures!!
I've been wondering about mo boy too.
back to pretend work!
Debbie

Well, I am no expert. Half of my half marys have been on a very simple out and back in Mount Pleasant, on the Rail Trail here in Midland or the streets of Saginaw.
But I will be surprised if I ever run one as nice as the one in Deadwood, South Dakota. Like most races, there is also a marathon going on, and the half starts at the halfway point of that. The halfway point just happens to be at the high point of the course so you go almost all (gradual) downhill. It is mostly on a non-paved rail trail and so it is very forgiving on the joints. The scenery is great. Lots of stuff to do in the area if you spend a few extra days there (Devils Tower, Mount Rushmore, Badlands National Park, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Memorial...)
Roch - If you find my maroon-colored ear pops, please let me know.
Enke - Where one door closes, another one opens. Maybe you can turn Door #4 into a runner!
Tammy - ^5 to David for maintaining good sportsmanship.
I had every intention of getting up this morning to work out. However, since I was taking two cats to the vet at 9:00, I didn't need to get up as early as usual. Apparently, I felt I didn't need to get up at all. This is a baaaad habit I've gotten myself into.
