Wow- almost 11:00am EST and no thread for the day. So here goes.

Lots of folks ran yesterday; some a long way, some not so far. A few folks are injured and some are sick. We all have family/work/retirement things going on.

Getting dressed for a long one now.

    Have a greta day.

    Tailwinds!

Bioguy-  that's funny.  I was on the treadmill thinking about what I would write if I had to start the thread, and you captured it perfectly!

4 treadmill miles-  raining outside.  Now I have to go to a (wait for it) cooking class.  This is hilarious since I do NOT cook.  A lawyer friend of mine bought this event at an auction and invited several of us and I appreciated the invite and the chance to socialize, but the cooking part......I just hope we get to eat whatever it is we are learning to cook from this top chef.

Out there running since dinosaurs roamed the earth

        Great start Bio!!

Karen:  a food network top chef or local top chef?  You should be able to eat what is cooked.

5ish miles on the mountain this morning with a gang of gal pals.  The rain held off until we were done.  We then headed to a bfast buffet where there was bacon a'plenty.  Not the best food in the world but the bacon was good

        Trails Rock!

On Quickadder's case: My Dad was taking a lot of prescriptions from different doctors who he went to for different problems, probably a dozen or more medications per day. My Mom was an RN at one point, and thought his conditions were being exasperated by the mix of pharmaceuticals. She put everything in a box and took it to a pharmacist, who was astounded that the doctors were prescribing things in the combinations they did. He pared it all down to about half, and reduced the dosages on a couple. Within 2 days my Dad was feeling much better. Some of the pills were for side effects of other pills, which in turn caused further side effects requiring pills, etc.

Moral of the story: The doctors are supposed to check on the current prescriptions before adding more, but sometimes they don't for some reason (not maliciously). There are now pharmaceutical consultant specialists that do nothing but manage multiple prescriptions. If you are prescribed more than 2-3 medications, especially if they are coming from different doctors, have it all checked by a specialist. Doctors already have a LOT to stay on top of, they can't be expected to also be top notch pharmacists as well.

            Mornin' everyone.

Thanks for the start and express summary, Bioguy.

You don't have to cook to enjoy most cooking classes, KSA - you only have to like to eat.

Nice pre-breakfast mountain run with the gal pals, Spacityrunner.

Speaking of naming critters - friends (and fellow racewalkers) in NY state have a few dairy cows, and named their first two "Lunch" and "Dinner."  BTW - don't your sales people ask purchasers what they intend to do with their new chainsaws??

So glad you and DW are gaining understanding of the side effects of what she is taking. Side effects are scary, and are too rarely considered, especially when multiple drugs are being prescribed. We all need to read that info because it is too rare that our docs do. (Very similar to what Surly Bill just posted.)

            Thanks for the play-by-play, Dave.

Men's tights are rarely as colorful as women's. I have a black pair with orange darts down the sides - that's about as wild as it gets. (And, yes, I do wear tights.)

Keep up that good work/bonding with your GS, Joe - good stuff.

I'd like a chocolate walk too.

My ankle has been feeling better for the last few days, so I decided to stretch it a bit this morning, and went 9.2 RW miles in 19° temps. The ankle got wonky a few times, so I'd back off and start up again. Tiring workout, but good stuff. Then I had to stretch, shower, and get dressed in a hurry for our breakfast date with some friends. My list of things to get checked off for the rest of the day include replacing the shear pin on the snowblower, restacking firewood from the shed to the carport (so it'll be more accessible from the house), finishing reviewing the beneficiary applications for this year's Seacoast Half (we choose a new social-services, non-profit beneficiary each year), and working on my PowerPoint presentation for our Flood Smart Roundtable meeting tomorrow evening, I was planning on baking a blood orange cake but may not have time, especially if I also want to fit in a nap this afternoon.

            Have a greta Sunday.

            Jay

Without ice cream there would be darkness and chaos.

Possibly good news of a sort for some of us here. A few years ago I had one of those calcium scoring tests that is an indicator of plaque buildup in the coronary arteries. Given my cholesterol numbers, level of fitness, exercise regimen, etc. I expected a fairly good number, so was a bit shaken up when, with a score of over 100 being a cause for concern, I came in at over 400! Anyway, this article in the NY Times addresses this and notes that although (for men at least) those who exercise the most tend to have more plaque, they also have less risk of a heart attack than those with similar numbers who exercise less.

              https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/06/well/move/can-you-get-too-much-exercise-what-the-heart-tells-us.html

So I guess I'll keep on running!

On that note, it was cloudy and about 20F this morning, but absolutely no wind. I ran the same 6 miles around the lake as last Sunday, but with less walking and an improvement in time. Next time I should be able to make it all the way around without slowing down.

Hey y'all, another "medication run" this morning (overdressed for conditions).  Went 8 miles, about 40 sec/mile faster than yesterday.  Will decide if I'm going to do the relaxation ride later.  Going to make my version of stir fry so will be slicing up some chicken soon to marinate (marinates in mix of soy sauce, sherry and corn starch--my mom took a Chinese cooking class in the '70s and I've been transcribing/digitizing the recipes).  Overall I'm feeling better.  Head is still mostly clear and based on the times (and distance) the chest congestion must be getting better also.

So the Air Force Marathon has named the featured weapon system for this year's race (different one every year; a couple of years ago it was two--the F-22 Raptor and P-51 Mustang; should have gone that year...).  This year it will be the brand new (Air Force just took possession of the first two production models) tanker, the KC-46 Pegasus.  I've been associated with it twice so I'm toying with the idea of running it (would be the third time).

Wildchild, I had the opportunity to run (ok, start) a marathon with MikeE also (Richmond last year).  Also was able to meet Tramps who was kind enough to drive us around the course (which was incredibly helpful).  Both great gentlemen.  And yep, Mike is quick.  I had a decent race and was still about 30 minutes behind him.

Joe, I've done Chickamauga 3 times.  Back when the start/finish was at a church about 2 miles from the entrance to the park.  Each time the course was slightly different (road construction/repairs) and they always made sure it was certified.  Have not run it since they moved the start/finish to the north side of the park.

                Have a greta day everyone!

                Henrun

We moved to a beach close to St. Petersburg for our final week in Florida. Another sunny, warm day and I ran 3 along the inter coastal water way. It’s obvious that everyone’s on vacation. Everyone you pass, runner, walker, or cyclist greets you with a hearty good morning. That rarely happens at home. Just had lunch and trying to decide when to cross the road and lounge on the 🏖.

                  Marathon Maniac #957

                    Henrun - decisions, decisions....

Jay - that is a busy day you have planned.

Spacity - bacon is good, and really good bacon is better....some brands just really shine over others..

Falconfixer - I am about 20 minutes from AF Marathon, so if you come to town maybe we can take you to dinner.

Lots to catch up on, and I am buried in a work project, so just a quick post.  I got out while the pavement was mostly still dry, other than some ice patches, and about 25 degrees.  The river is very high, so the bike path flooded out in both directions, so I ran mostly the 1.5 miles off bike path that was between these two spots, back and forth.  The last hour was in falling snow, and we should have about 3" when it is done.

                    16.1 miles total.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Here's the Sunday installment of the winter that won't end.  Since 30" of snow in the last 10 days isn't enough we have 3 more today.  It is blowing sideways though so it might not count in the total!

20 degrees with a windchill of 8 meant Misha and I got a mile in, then yoga for me.  She only knows downward dog so mostly just observes yoga time.

Wildchild, 2 thumbs up for swirly blue tights.  I have some Galaxy ones that sound similar.  Coastrunner, black with orange darts sound downright snazzy!

Going back to the car naming thought: I didn't mention I learned to drive on a '67 Buick named Beulah.   And RunnerKSA can I come to cooking class with you?  When the weather is this bad all I do is cook.  I need some new ideas!

The cooking event was fun and I ate tons of food.  We "made" appetizers (they had everything all chopped up and ready for us) and then they served us a great meal.  it's a local outfit- catering company.  I was very impressed.  I actually think the did a dinner at our corporate office a couple of years ago that I attended.  Dessert today was avocado ice cream.  It was good- not sweet.  Anyway- I didn't cut off a finger.   In the small world category- one of the 6 women is a chancery court judge in Nashville and she is willing to expedite my daughter's name change (back to her maiden name) for her since the chancery court my daughter's application is in only hears these matters once a month and my daughter's matter was not called last week.  She is trying to renew her passport and get some plane tickets, so speeding it up would be good.

It's a rainy, cold, ugly day but I'm still contemplating the gym if my meal settles down.

power walked about 4 miles, then we walked on the beach.  shortly suffering with wine and sunset on the beach.
