    Mornin' everyone.

I'm sorry to read of your mom's passing, Tselbes. I'm sure that, even with what she (and you all) have been dealing with, it is tough to say goodbye. It was good that so many of you were with her when she left. Please accept my condolences.

Holly, I guess I use my cell phone less than a lot of other folks because leaving mine at home wouldn't bother me a bit. I'd miss it most because it has my grocery and other lists.

Nice run and talk with DIL, Marj.

Enke, congrats to MBE's daughter on her law school graduation. Imagine how unhappy MBE would be about her leaving if he didn't have you there to help fill that coming void? Congrats to you on your caffeinated run, and good luck with the heat training.

Did you decide on the 5K for Saturday, Aamos? Did your interview wind up on the editing floor?

TW, I'm sorry about the aching back. If it's OK, I'll pass on the Vanilla Ice...

Leslie, it always amazes me how much of a difference little tweaks in technique/form can make. I'm glad the changes you are making are improving your speed and reducing your foot pain. Sounds like branching out at work is paying some interesting dividends. How was the 'town hall' meeting?

WC, good on you for being attentive to your knee to try to head off future discomfort. I hope it pays off. I'm sure Tazzie and Ladybug appreciate the extra attention.

Twocat, I hope you continue to stay out of the woods in regard to your leg, and that the doc has some good info for you next week. Many moons ago, DW and I lived very close to Central Park, and we loved having that oasis in the middle of Manhattan. There are many roads, sidewalks and dirt trails for some running diversity. If I were a city dweller today, I'd love having someplace other than city streets on which to workout.

For those who are curious, I did complete the mitigation calculations yesterday, although there were a few false starts till I figured out all the issues and how to cover them in the calculations.

DW had to get up early today to catch a 5:30 bus to the airport to make her flight to VA where she'll spend a few days visiting relatives and attending a niece's graduation from UVA. So the cat and I have to help each other stay out of trouble till DW returns on Sunday. I wanted to spend some time with DW before she left, so I skipped my workout this morning - a good trade-off.

It looks like I'll have a Mike meet-up on Saturday. He's passing Portsmouth on his way from Boston to Maine for his multi-marathon journey. He's going to take a brief detour in Portsmouth so we can meet for lunch. Cool!

    Have a greta Thursday!

TomS, I'm very sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. Your parents raised an outstanding man.

Mr. BE sounds like a gem.

Dad and I went to the doctor. Staples are out. No driving yet. My return flight is Monday. My step sister changed her mind about coming down to help. I get that she may be playing "he's not my real dad" card. She volunteered. I had a feeling she'd changed her mind when she had not returned texts.

I'm needed home. At work . At Dad's. I got 5 miles in Florida's finest H&H. On the psychobilly station I heard a new song from Hillbilly Casino calling "The Ballad of Psycho Steve ". It brought a tear to my eye. I blamed it on the sun screen running down my forehead.

      Trails are hard!

Tom--so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing.  So much harder when the loss has been for such a long time.

Jay--if you (or Mike) wouldn't mind me intruding, could you send details for Saturday?  DW will be off at a workshop and I'd love a chance for an IRL meetup with Mike.

No run this morning.  Catch-up day at work so I can leave next week for a few days in NC.

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

Hi Stumpy -It would be no intrusion at all! I just got (and responded to) and email from Marj about including her and Henry and you in this meetup (which is very exciting!). The proposed plan is to meet at The Kitchen Eatery on Islington St in Portsmouth at about noon, and chat there among ourselves until Mike arrives, which I figure will be around 12:30 +/-. Is good?

Just briefly stopping in, hope to come back later....wanted to add whatever small measure of comfort internet words from afar bring, tselbs.   Exactly what Steve said.   My condolences.

that sounds like a superb meetup on the weekend

haven't decided yet about the race, and no one's said anything to me so I'm guessing cutting room floor.\

              +1

Steve - hang in there, my friend.  It's hard to be everywhere you are needed, but you do a pretty darn good job.

              Weekend meet-up - sounds fun!

Is Green Bay really next week?  Wow!

30-40 minutes of weights and core, plus 1 mile on the TM.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

6 ish miles through a charming downtown park. An old guy about my age shouted that he wished he could do what I was.

I stopped. While the fella was leaning on his cane, he told me he walked 4 to 5 miles daily. I told him he was doing what I do. It's different equipment and a different pace. However a mile is still a mile.

Then a old lady my age stopped me to show off her infant grandson in his Batman onesie.

This is awesome!  I can't wait to meet Jay and Stumpy--and to see Henry and Marj again.  I'm also planning on getting together with milktruck once I get into Maine.

an impromptu (sort of) RA meet-up.  Sweet!

SteveP - Hang in there.  I know you'd love to clone yourself.  Very happy to hear your dad is doing well.  Are there friends who would be able to assist him, or some kind of short-term in-home care assistance?  And that song - I figured it made you at least swoon a little.

My scheduled 6 turned into 4 on very tired legs.  I just couldn't make myself do the 2 extra miles.  I will make them up on Sunday's run.

                    Jay - Since you asked . . . . .

The townhall meeting was very interesting.  I'd never been to one before..  It was called the "Bureau of Medical Marijuana Listening Tour," and listen they did.  People were polite and able to effectively and intelligently voice their concerns.  I was very impressed.  The chief of the Bureau, Lori Ajax, was only appointment in February, the Bureau attorney was just appointed 2 weeks ago, another position was just appointed last week, and nobody has any staff.  That shows you how incredibly new this all is.  It's no joke when I say Humboldt County's economy, especially Southern Humboldt's, would come close to failing if for any reason all or most the marijuana growers were driven out of the area, so this whole thing is a very important issue here.

People from all walks were there to give constructive criticism and voice their concerns, and I thought it went really well.  Not a lot of new information, but that's just expected when something's a work in progress.   . . . .  AND I got 1.5 hrs of OT for attending.

The Hub and I ended up having an interesting conversation about the whole deal when I got home last night.  He is vehemently against legalization, which completely surprised me, but he's coming at it from seeing what happens from the addiction side.  I do agree with him, though, that there needs to be stricter standards on who qualifies as needing it for medical purposes.  Right now I could walk in to any doctor who hands out 215's, tell him/her some carp story about a pain, get a card, and then legally grow up to 99 plants in my yard with no oversight on whether I'm selling it or using it myself.  But I've always thought it should be legalized and still do.  . . . . . . And I am finding all of this to be very fascinating . . . can you tell???

And that's about that.  Have a good one ~~

Not sure how I feel about the marijuana issue.  I guess I am for legalization, because users are still going to use either way.  And I don't know enough about the medical benefits to comment on that.

How cool, so many of of the RA "boys" getting together!!  And Marj too.

So last night MBE modeled the suits he had tried on previously for me.  Not sure why he wanted my opinion, he picked out the nicest looking one anyway - we both agreed about it .  They all kinda look the same too, slight differences in shade or texture.  He'd look great at his daughter's wedding in that suit, as he would getting married himself, I kept thinking!  Wink   No, that's just a thought I had, nothing more!

I plan to do a 'hot' run tonight in 77F.  Slow and sweaty.  I gotta just do it, dang it!

I looked at my assigned legs in the relay.  There are two legs in the entire relay called "OMG" difficult, and I was assigned one of those. Yes, 1509 ft of elevation gain with only 256 decline over only 4.5 miles.  Thanks Tammy!    Sounds like more of a hike than a run.  And then my third leg is +898 feet/ -1401 feet and 8.4 miles long.  Yup, it's gonna be "challenging".  But I am really stoked about this and glad I did that 10 mile run at Big Creek last weekend - each loop says it has 1300 feet elevation gain x 2 = 2600 ft.  Not bad.

"During a marathon, I run about two-thirds of the time. That's plenty." - Margaret Davis, 85 Ed Whitlock regarding his 2:54:48 marathon at age 73, "That was a good day. It was never a struggle."

I appreciate the condolences and thoughts from my RA family.  You folks are great.

We survived last night with the grandsons, had breakfast with them at our favorite restaurant, and got them to daycare.  Now we just have to survive another night and morning.

After getting the kids to daycare, I got in 3 miles at an 11:15 pace.  It was in the mid 60s and there was a little wind.

A good. Day and good runs for all.

Tom - my condolences on your mom's passing. It's sort of a mixed bag I suppose. I know when my grandpa had parkinsons and alzheimers, it was that mixed feeling of relief he was no longer a prisoner to his illness, but still grief over losing a loved one.

Karen - I gave you those legs because I have confidence in your badass abilities!

Oregon - one of those states with legalized medical marijuana and recreational marijuana. I guess I've seen/heard of enough people that find medical relief from MJ without the dangerous and often negative side effects of pharmaceutical drugs, that I fully support that alternative medicine for those that have a real need. Recreational is another thing. While I know people will still continue to use and compared to other drugs like meth, heroin, cocaine, it's relatively harmless - I'd rather encounter a happy high-on-pot person that a tweaking violent meth user - legalizing it for recreational purposes has given younger kids/teens almost a "permission" in a way to use. That's what we are seeing here at least. We live rural SW Oregon, where pot farms are plenty and David's high school is seeing an increase in the number of kids using/bringing on campus, etc. For many of them, their parents are growers, so it's readily available and even condoned by parents so they are feeling more freedoms in using. Sure, it's still illegal at that age and illegal to bring on campus, but when we have so little law enforcement in this county, they all know nothing is going to be done about it.

                            okay, enough of me.

David is in AP World History and this morning is the college exam he's taking for college credit. I like that the HS has this option available for the AP and Honors classes. Theoretically, he could have close to a year of college credit under his belt by the time he graduates. I don't recall having this option when I was in HS. But then I wasn't in advanced classes, so probably just was unaware.

Should be low 90's here today, so I'll run about 5-6 miles after work. although I guess I'm sort of cheating since it'll be the trails at my house, where it's a bit cooler anyways, and shaded, and along a creek, so will have to take some breaks so dogs can drink and soak their bellies which they love to do.

                            Tammy

Tammy, my son is writing that exam today too!!!  He ate two bowls of oatmeal for breakfast, as he claims he won't get a break to snack.

"During a marathon, I run about two-thirds of the time. That's plenty." - Margaret Davis, 85 Ed Whitlock regarding his 2:54:48 marathon at age 73, "That was a good day. It was never a struggle."

Ran about 4 in the heat, but it wasn't the heat that bothered me, it was the bike riding earlier in the day.  I'm not used to bricks and even though both were short, I had no sproink on the run.

All of a sudden my Friday has become very busy, because I have to do Saturday's errands on Friday in order to get to the meet-up!

MA has legalized medical marijuana and will probably have a vote in November on legalization for everyone.
