Top 'O the World!

Of course, the slip-up, I should confess, was a bit of binge: Running from an Angel Marathon - Jan 5 - Boulder City, NV In the women's division, Amy Yanni, 53 of Rapid City SD, who had 11 top-3 finishes and 5 marathon victories in 2007, won her first of 2008 in 3:56:43...... I'll just trundle off now and say my Hail Pre...... grins, A

Way to sneak an RR into the daily, Aamos. Congratulations on another stellar performance! But then that's what we've come to expect.

Jlynne - I only recently discovered that Exercise TV On Demand is part of my digital cable TV package. I can choose from 10-15 different ab/core videos and play it as if it's a DVD - very cool. The selection changes regularly, so I've never done the same one twice, and have learned many interesting new ways to torture myself. Big grin Unfortunately I haven't really paid attention to the names of the instructers. Perhaps your library might have a selection you could try, to see which ones you like. Roch - I wondered about that, too. Aamos - awesome job!

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

I'm so honored that I get to post on the same Internet as Awesome Aamos. Wow! Shocked By an odd set of circumstances not of my making, I had the opportunity to do a vO2 max test today (the basic one, not full blood/lactate version) for a nominal fee. I couldn't pass up the fun--if you call running on a treadmill with an oxygen mask strapped to your face fun. Results later this week. With warm-up and cool-down etc, I'm calling it 5 miles....variable paces. Big grin

          Be safe. Be kind.

Tall, good luck with dinner and the karaoke party - hope everything's fun and un-stressful. Aamos - wow! that was a little slip up? Congrats! Ray - we're like twins (in parallel universes) - you run 10 six-minute miles, and I run 6 ten-minute miles. I sure wish I was faster - I could fit longer runs into my lunch hour. Today I took a little extra time and ran 6.6 miles on a dirt trail by a creek. Beautiful day, 44 degrees, but kind of windy. The trail was snowy where it went in the woods, but it was less windy than the open clear parts of the trail.

I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.

Tall my parents have a place not too far from Ottawa, so I am expecting a karaoke invite some time this summer. 6 exhilerating miles along the Erie canal, unfortunately it was a 7 mile run. Fought a hamstring cramp on and off for the last mile. Off to the gym now for weights for upper body. I can be a glutton for punishment. What else is there to do when DW is out volunteering?
Thanks for the kind words, people, but my left leg is not better at all. I can run a few miles at a time if I run slowly, which is the way I've been for months. Actually I'm getting worse: around Thanksgiving I was able to run 6-8 miles before breaking down, but now I'm down to 2-4 miles before breaking down. This afternoon I returned to the gym for today's second workout: 1.5 miles on treadmill, 1% incline, 9:00 mile pace. (At which point I broke down.) Then 5 miles on elliptical. Lame Horse

I don't like to brag, but that gives me 10.5 total miles from scrimmage today. Dark Horse

The idea tonight was to run from the Cutty Sark at Greenwich to the Thames Barrier via the Millennium Dome and back alongside the Thames. Unfortunately, the Thames path in Greenwich appears to have been temporarily closed although this was not made clear. So I ran around the streets of Greenwich trying to get back to the river. It turned out that my policy of turning left at every possible opportunity backfired when I seemed to be headed back to where I started from. Eventually I found a very wide and empty traffic free path that emerged between the Dome and the Barrier and I continued my run along the river. On the way back the Thames Path deteriorated in to an unlit building site and after running in to a pile of gravel I headed back inland navigating via signs and familiar landmarks to get back to the Cutty Sark. 9 miles in total at 9:33 pace. Average heart-rate 130. 21 miles already this week Shocked Greenwich is beautiful by the way.

An ok 4 mile tempo run for me this morning in 43:26. My knees are starting to complain so I'll probably order up some shoes. I've been considering adopting another dog. The cute little guy I looked at does have one problem, though not a problem for me - he's blind. Other than that he seems healthy and perhaps about 7 years old. I'm a little hesitant, because when I adopted the dog I currently have, he really didn't come as advertised. The person went on and on with how he gets along great with children etc. Well, he is a cuddly fellow, but he hates kids, women with bleached blonde permed hair, and - here's a potential problem- most other dogs. Although when I adopted him I had another dog and there were no problems except when he tried to be amorous. Big grin He's worked out ok, but I didn't really care to find out these things the hard way. We'll see. ETA: My current dog is now deaf, so I was thinking of Wilder and Pryor in "See No Evil, Hear No Evil"
6 easy miles and now 2 days off. My next run will be Sunday because of my work schedule. Thats ok though the legs are getting a little grumpy and complaining so 2 days off should quiet them. Holly I think I have that Excercise on demand also. I never really watched it though. Guess I'll check it out and see if It helps me stay with my core work. Not much on video exercise but I do like to learn new tricks. I get bored easily so the more variation the better. I installed a pull up bar in my office at work last year and was really dedicated to it for 3 months. I got up to about 12 at a time and then for some unknown reason got bored and quit. Tried it today and could barely get 6. Sad Great for the back and arms. Also used the bar for frog kicks which are a great ab work out. I think maybe I will try that again for awhile. Good runs to everyone

Good luck Sue!!!!! Aamos, that's so awesome. Anachrotech, I found out the hard way, tried everything to solve the problems, but they never really went away. was your other dog a boy or a girl? congrats on your progress. Tammy & Sue, I like planks too. Tramps, that's pretty cool. Erika, hmm. the listening thing works, huh? pilates this morning & tm tonight.

Good Evening Masters! DH- The man said baby steps are good. Congrats and be patient, grasshopper! A- WOW! You are phenomenal! I ran at 4:00pm. Maybe it was because I knew I had to attend my DD's girls lacrosse meeting for their spring trip to England @ 5:30 PM and then a wake for my neighbor, but I ran fast...for me. 4.92 miles in 42:27, good for an 8:38 pace. Has anyone heard of a folk singer named Brett Dennen, great stuff! Go in for my checkup with the new physician tomorrow afternoon, then run, then beer at City Ale and Oyster's happy hour 4-6 PM. 25 cent wings and $1.00 oysters!!! Can I have a Yaaaaah!!!! Chris

No running...just swimming. Wanted to run today but foot is cranky. I have learned. Will not run tomorrow (I think Wink) and will ditch the group run on Saturday if still cranky. Just went off the NSAID so don't know how much is no drug, and how much was running to "fast". Doesn't matter....I am paying attention. I learned I would rather sit out a week, then months. Great marathon Aamos....thanks for sharing that little RR ana tech: a blind dog and a deaf dog....wow! I bet they get along great. I was listening to a couple of gals chatting in the steam room today. Not in English, but I couldn't identify the language. I have heard almost every "major" and some minor spoken (I don't speak them) and can usually identify them. I thought I picked up some Russian words, but these ladies were clearly from Asia (I thought Japanese (manorisims) or Chinese (looks)) and this was not either the right accent or 100% Russian...sooooo I was very confused and I asked. Mongolian...wow! Wow would of thought that me, a little country gal from nowhere, would have the opportunity to hear people speak Mongolian. I am still awed by such things.

                                Trails Rock!
