Tapering Weekender (Read 16 times)

Sandy-2

The Queen and I are now officially tapering. Anyone else?

Got up really early and did my last 20 miler for this cycle. Now it’s taper time. Run went ok. It was really humid and in among the trees the air was stagnant so it was tough keeping from overheating.

Looking forward to the taper. I had originally planned a 3 week taper, but since I had to reschedule last weekend I changed the 20 to today. Now I’m doing a 2 week taper like I normally do.

Glad and to hear the loop went well for the Trailers yesterday. Looking forward to the report and photos.

qotd: 2 or 3 week taper?

    tbd.

Hello!  19.2 miles today, just up and down the coast.  Have a road marathon in Nov so running on pavement more than trails these days.  Looking forward to shifting gears back to trails after that.

Queen, Sandy -- enjoy the taper time.  Watch out for phantom niggles.  Remember they are not real!

Sounds like the folks in CO have been having fun.  Looking forward to more pics and a weekend report.

QOTD: 2 weeks is my usual taper.  Since I tend to be "less is more" when it comes to training, I don't wear myself out badly enough to need 3 weeks.

Beautiful weather here in PA today for a change. Might take a break from working on the ark today.

Got in my last 20 miler for my marathon in 3 weeks.

3 week taper but not super light this next week. Don't follow a specific plan, but I seem to gravitate toward a very Higdon-esque approach.

Almostv12 today:  thought I was heading out for ten and the plan was to walk run with a beginner.  She didn’t show so kinda ran but still took it easy and walked a bit.  Tripped and fell, that’s two days in a row  I rarely fall.  So goal now is maybe a couple of dog walks and than a hundy.

Qotd:  depends on the distance.  The shorter the run the shorter the taper.  I think this one my big run was 4 weks ago.  A 50k would be two weeks.

Sandy:  you never trained for cold weather   You’re going to freeze!

SRD yesterday as we flew home and back to humidity.  Heading out in a few minutes for a run in the wet woods.

I'll get a RR up soon and some more pics.

Summary - this was a pretty epic run.  Scenery was spectacular and we had perfect weather. Last major climb maxed out at 1200' in .5 miles (not a typo) and that was on top of a 2.5 mile segment of talus and boulders that made up the "trail".

DW's picture of me heading up to the "V" to the top left.  You can totally see the trail, right.

QOTD:  2 week taper always works for me.  Any longer and I feel tired, which is probably more mental than physical.

            “Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!

            Are we there, yet?

Yesterday 4.3 miles fartlek spectating at a college xc meet, today who knows at this point.

qotd: 2 weeks max, more likely 7-10 days for a taper.

Snuck in just under 4 miles with the group yesterday before heading to DS's XC race. What a spectacle (overall, not necessarily DS). It was really muddy and kiddo ran in boy's JV, which was the last race on an already soggy course. One front of the pack took a stumble on a culvert crossing, twisting his ankle or knee  (and already had a brace on). It took him a while to get up (with help). A member of our kid's team lost a shoe and ran another 2.5 miles half shod. A lot of finishers looking like they were at their breaking point. Lot of emotions out of the field. Pretty inspiring.

qotd: Don't really taper as I'm not running any great distances. Maybe a day or three taking it easy.

Great pic Tim!  That rates into my all time hardest climbs- and a have a plethora of hard climbs under my belt

NH and I got 10-ish miles in yesterday at RMNP- some more outstanding country

at the Denver airport, sorry to see the trip end; we need to start planning for next year!

qotd: my races are on the shorter side 15-35 miles, so two weeks max and often just a week

Did 6 easy miles this morning.  The humidity isn't so bad when tapering.

QoN - You're trying to play Jedi mind tricks on me....   After what I've been training in these past 3 months I'd LOVE for it to be freezing.  The 10-day forecast in Utah has highs around 72 and lows about 42, and low humidity.  They do warn about the rain this time of year.  We'll see.

Great CO photos, what is that dark blue stuff - oh, it's the sky without humidity.

15+ this morning.  Was gorgeous out to start.  Nice weather this weekend.  But my thoughts and prayers are with those in the Carolinas.  I cannot imagine the amount of water they have.

Queen & Sandy - happy tapering.

QOTD: What is a taper? If I don't run enough miles in the first place for the distance I am running then a taper means nothing.  That is quite often my situation.

Have a great....start of the week!
