Wacky Wednesday (Read 22 times)

I ran 5 after work yesterday, and I pushed pretty hard on the back end of it. It was good. I'll run 6 after work today.

QOTD: Are you trying anything new in regard to training this summer?

I have a new program that I am going to start in about 3 weeks after I have built up a little base that is similar to what I was doing when I first started running longer distances. I think it will be fun to see how it works out.

    Are we there, yet?

First post race interval workout tonight with the club. No idea what it will be, but I'm hoping we'll move up from 200m to 400m intervals.

QOTD: Not really new, but will be doing a lot more on trails and hills, especially long hill repeats. With two major races involving hills this year, Elkhorn 50K and MDI Marathon, I need to do more race course specific training.

       2024 Races:

            03/09 - Livingston Oval Ultra 6-Hour, 22.88 miles

            05/11 - D3 50K
            05/25 - What the Duck 12-Hour

            06/17 - 6 Days in the Dome 12-Hour.

I got super busy last night grading papers and had to bail on my run.  Guess that is the price I pay for adding some teaching on top of my own schooling...

I will try to get out tonight for some decent miles.

QOTD: Try something new? probably not.  Thinking about a 12 hour race in the middle of the summer to help keep things going so I guess that is new to me.  But training wise, no.

        Have a great day!

My favorite day of the week is RUNday

Spending the day at work = no running.  Yesterday's run started off OK, but a little slow.  Temp was 78-80 which is about 10-12 degrees warmer than any previous long runs I've done. Basically I melted at the end. A lot slower  and a little shorter than I wanted it to be.

Yesterday's QOTD:  After yesterday's run I think I'll change my answer to running in the cold and snow .

QOTD: I have a 50 miler planned for late fall. This one will be on dirt state forest roads. This year I'll be doing a lot of my long runs on that same type of terrain.  I'm also planning on dedicating at least one day a week to getting in a medium to long distance bike ride. Somehow I'm going to have to get in some rough technical running.

Hi trailers.  Just returned from 6 miles in mid-70s and humidity.  Went straight from late winter to summer conditions.  I pushed myself a bit on the pace and melted at the end.  Good run, but I definitely felt the change in weather.

qotd: not really, which is a problem, so I'm curious to learn what others are doing.  I need some motivation (and a race).

No run today, but I'm able to lift my big toe off the ground, so that's improvement and a very good sign of recover early vs later.  Still being optimistic about this weekend. They updated forecast to 89* and high humidity, so if I'm able to run, I might not want to.

QOTD:  I keep saying I need to add more tempo work into my routine, but since my trails are so gnarly that means doing tempo on the roads. We'll see if I get that done, because every time I plan on it I end up driving to the mountains. It's a mental thing that i need to get over.

              “Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!

I am not sure about a run today. I have some intestinal bug and I feel exhausted. I have chronic insomnia and no sleep for more than an hour or two at a time for months is catching up with me. If I do run it will be 5 on the gravel bike path pushing a double stroller with the grand kids.

Qotd: the plan is to train For and run my first 50 miler. We will see...

                  Ten this morning.

QOTD: 4 months ago I had big plans on how I was going to train for this race but in the end I fell back into old habits and trained pretty much the same way as I always do.

Moon-from yesterday.  This weathers been great hasn't it? I wish I could get out for a afternoon run But it seems family, work, and life in general always hets in the way of afternoon runs.

10 miles last night with the Lady on the hilly trails of the Birdsboro Watershed. Fairly warm, and it was definitely shirtless running weather. . Looks like there had been a race out here recently as there were flour marking on the trees and trails. Some of the trail junctions things looked downright confusing. Ha, glad I did not race whatever they held out there. Broke in a fresh pair of Altra Lone Peaks that I will be using for my June race.

Today was planet of fitness at lunch, and tonight will 8-10 miles at Coventry Woods. I am on the 8-10 mile plan this week, with the exception of Saturday which will be the 30+ mile plan.

QOTD: Summer training will probably be like last year. That will be run for fun for the most part. Well, unless something goes horribly wrong at Mohican in June and I need to find a WSQ this year. Oh, I am signed up for a 5k race series on the trails so will have some speedwork once a month.

AT - Yes, the mind takes me to the trails too almost every time. I have a perfect flat cinder rail trail nearby too that just begs to be hammered. But the dog and I prefer the hillier trails where people are more sparse. Thankfully a couple of my trail routes can be sort of ran tempo style.

In dog beers, I've only had one.

Sorry to hear that. I've been dealing with intermittent insomnia myself.  I can be almost too tired to walk but as soon as I lay down I'm wide awake. Sleep aids don't help.

Gator: the weather has been nice...finally. As hot as it seems now, I think these are going to be remembered as the good old days, as they are predicting lots of. +90 degree days this summer.
