Comrades Marathon RR (Read 55 times)

Occasional Runner

Here's my report for Comrades. This is a pretty special race and I really enjoy running in South Africa. After a brutal 20k section late in the race, I managed to recover and finish feeling great. Thanks for checking it out.

Congrats! Gorgeous photos. I really like the idea of the water "sachets" too.

        Are we there yet?

Amazing! I've known of Comrades for years but knew little about it. Your pictures and description seem to capture a good sense of what it's like.

2016 Goals: Exceed 100K in a 24-Hour race, run more trail races (2 currently scheduled)

Way to go Kelly.  Nice job getting thru the bad patch. The direct sun must be tough (not to mention the 56 miles on the road).

I use my iPhone for almost all my pictures. It's hard to beat for portability and photo quality.

Great RR as always Kelly.  Congrats on the good race and emerging from your low point to finish strong.  Very inspiring post.  Nice photos too.

Thanks for the report and congrats on a great finish!  Heat sucks, no getting around that- glad you were able to pull through, pretty confident I wouldn't Smile

“Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up, it knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.”

Thanks for the RR...that's a great lesson in getting yourself out of a tough spot...I will be saving that one in the memory bank.  Congrats on another successful race.  The video of the National Anthem was really cool too, not something I would ever get to experience without vicariously living through you.

Thanks! You never know where running might take you someday. I know I never expected to run in Africa.
