I'm one of these guys who takes irrational pride in getting a lot of miles out of shoes. I have these Hoka Challengers that have only 300 miles on them and the outsoles are in great shape -- well, the rubber pieces are peeling off, but I've been keeping up with those with shoe goo, and the toes peeled off, but I shoe-gooed them back -- but other than that the outsoles look good. But they very early developed holes in the sides of the forefoot and now they look like this (below). Shall I give up on them and get new shoes?
The shoes look fine, I think you have a sock problem though!!!

Looks like you're tying the laces too tight. +1 on the sock problem.

I thought I was rough on shoes.
You people have issues

300 miles is an early death. I'd call Hoka and complain. If you paid full price that's $0.43 / mile.
+1 on socks.

Holy shit. That's terrible. I've never had a pair of shoes fall apart on me like that. In fact, I'm still wearing a pair of Montrails from 2009...
Running is dumb.
Yes, the answer is always yes. And I cannot look at the pic because of the no socks situation. The idea alone of not wearing socks while running makes me uncomfortable.
Just be glad we didn't get to see his hairy toes.
I always wear socks for running. I just did that for the photo. Didn't look quite as dramatic with my black socks showing through the holes.
+1 to calling Hoka. Brooks replaced a pair of road shoes after a seam started coming apart less than a 100 miles.
running under the BigSky
I’m going to disagree with the rest- easily another 300 in those

They are Challenger 2, and Hoka is on Challenger 5 (Napali ATR) now. I got them a year ago for $58 from Runningwarehouse. Hoka might actually do something if they have a "the customer is always right" customer service policy, but I'd feel kinda rotten about doing that.
But I'd hate to turn down free money/shoes.

I agree with AT...I think it's pathetic they fell apart that much on 300 miles!!!

and you young lady can get a new pair of shoes!! 2009
I'm guessing any hair on his toes would be rubbed off with no socks.
