Occasional Runner
Yeah, the ascent after Orondo is Pine Canyon and the airport is in Waterville. Then dirt roads over Badger Mountain, down into the valley toward the Columbia River. I know the area well.
Uh oh... now what?
The race started at midnight on Halloween. It would be over twenty years before I would ever see that hill in the daylight. There were three of us running up that canyon under a cloudless sky, quite a bit of meteor activity, and we were running nines. I was terrified of being up there with the big kids, but it all worked out.
