Faster Than Your Couch!
9 miles up and down the mountain. Even though the temps were in the teens, the wind was blowing hard and made it feel much colder.
Jamie: I usually tell either DH, or DD where I go, or I leave a note on the table. I virtually never deviate from the route if I outline specific trails. Most times, I am not that specific, and just tell them the mountains I'll run on, but then there would not be 100's of trails, just a few, so someone looking for me would cover the area within a few hours.
Mandy: I can relate to the "systemic shock" from the cold. I once spent a couple weeks on Hawaii around Thanksgiving, then came back to The Windy City during a winter storm - and Lake Michigan had turned into an ice-hurling Monster!
sugnim: Hope you'll be better soon.
AT: Wonderful picture! Reminds me of my run yesterday. On that run, I dropped one of my mittens, and a good load of snow ran right into it. At first, I was worried that the melting snow turning to water would turn into ice again in the low temperatures and freeze off my fingers, but my hands stayed nice and warm, even though the mitten was frozen solid after a while. Seems that the lining had wicked all the water away from my skin, deep into the insulation fluff, so that my fingers survived unscathed. These are great mittens, waterproof inside and out!
QOTD1: I'd chose option 2, warm winters and hot summers. I just love the heat and don't suffer too much in humidity - may have to do with the fact that when I grew up in Austria, 80 degrees was considered "hot" in summer, and we spent all day at the pool. Nowadays, with the climate change over Europe, it's warmer there, too, but fairly dry (dryer than in PA, so almost like a desert, even though people there don't know it).
I run quite well in the heat, as long as I start in the morning and get used to the rising temperatures along the way.
QOTD2: It has warmed up considerably today, temps in the upper teens. Cloudy now, but most of the day was bright sunshine.
Run for fun.
AT Runner - Looks like you were at the north pole. Race was the Ugly Mudder by the way, but yeah with all the snow seemed like it should have been the Chilly Cheeks.
In dog beers, I've only had one.
Tim
XT - Yea, brain fart. Knew it was UM, but DD has been wearing her Chilly Cheeks sweat shirt around all weekend, so that's on my mind.
Here's your Photo Op.

Just got back in from a nice 10 mile run. Temp was about 20 with a brisk breeze and just a little bit of sun peeping through the clouds. I crested a hill and found a groundhog in the middle of the road . Of course the sun was out and he had seen his shadow . The little bastard made sure he predicted 6 more weeks of winter before moving off to the side and letting me by. Good thing for him I wasn't packing today or he would have had it.
It took me awhile to figure out why he was out so early when it's still this cold, then it came to me. The missus had gotten tired of his crap and kicked him out of the burrow for the day .
DD1: LOL
XT: Cool hat. Am I wrong, or is everybody wearing microspikes or similar? And then shorts... must be a guy thing. I for myself would rather dress like the Queen. Well, to each their own.
running under the BigSky
