Mellow Monday (Read 22 times)

runtraildc

After a busy weekend, looking forward to a quieter Monday.  Didn't run Saturday (technically breaking my streak, but I am doing this for me so it doesn't matter if I don't care).  Sunday was our race. Kiddos did well-- they ran together pacing each other, until the last 25 yards when the younger one sprinted past his brother to the finish. Or so I was told, I was still running.  Perfect weather, reverse course (which I liked better) and very good beer at the end.

qotd: retire any favorite running gear lately? Or need to and are putting it off? My lesser loved Cascadias are running thin along one side and I either need to give them up or see Dr Duct tape. They are not that old and the tread is perfect.  And a running bra that chafes too frequently now, but I love it more than the others so I'm reluctant to give it up, trying to manage the chafing (not too hot weather, shorter runs, etc.)

I went to the gym last night and walked 2 miles and finally had enough of that and ran a mile.  I followed that up with the stairs and weights. I don't feel horrible today but also don't feel great.

blarg - I saw your post over the weekend.  I watched the videos - I will watch again and give it a try.  Thanks for the input and will let you know how it's going.  BTW - nice hilly run over the weekend.

DC - always like a sibling to surge ahead at the last minute.

QOTD: I recently retired my original Hoke Stinson's - I have well over 1000 miles on them.  I still may break them out occasionally but they are mostly retired.  Not too long ago I had to throw away a few socks that had holes in them.  I have a tendency to keep socks even after holes develop - drives DW nuts!

      Have a great day!

My favorite day of the week is RUNday

Morning Trailers!  Had a good weekend of running, back to back 12 milers- legs are sore, but not bad.  Have a 30k this coming weekend.

Bike to work and strength train this evening.

qotd: I have a couple of pairs of N2's that need to get tossed, still have a couple of pairs that are in good shape, as well as a pair of the new N3's- of course I read a couple of weeks ago that PI is discontinuing all of the running shoes

Five easy miles on the road yesterday,  cooler weather nice!

QOTD  I had to get rid of my favorite pair of shorts after they developed a hole in the man bit  region.  I have a Salomon S-5 pack that is falling apart in a few parts, but it's not that old.

Saturday I did the inaugural Boulder Beast.  Somewhere between 24-27 miles, still trying to figure that out.  I've been on most of those trails before but this year didn't train specifically for it.  And now my legs are suffering from it.  Still can barely walk at times .  I'll try to get a RR out sometime in the next few days.

Planning on running walking shuffling a easy 5 miles today to try to get the legs back in shape.

QOTD:  Getting ready to retire my NB 870s. They predate my trail running days and have been mostly used for the gym and elliptical workouts. The tread is gone and they don't feel too good so they're headed to the garbage bin to be replaced by my Hoka Conquests who are ready to be semi-retired.  The only other thing that I'm looking to replace is my Polar running watch and that's because the HR monitor doesn't work on it anymore and I'd like to do some HR training.

            Sandy-2

I took yesterday off and I'm planning to run an easy 5 mi after work today if the thunderstorms cooperate.

After about a 36 hour journey our DD made it to the middle of nowhere South Africa (she did stop in Doha for about 9 hours and went in to town to see the Souq Wagif, horse stable, falcon souq, etc.).  She'll rest up and then next week she's doing another one of those epic horse rides she does. She'll be doing 75 miles a day for 8 days. I think I'll be doing Grindstone during the last 2 days of her ride.  DW will be going nuts.

qotd: I got rid of a few pairs of shorts.  I needed to replace them once I got back 'home'.

SRD here, and officially into taper. I think I'm gonna go back to keeping it way on the lighter side and try to arrive at the start completely rested and chomping at the bit, so no more than 30-35 miles this week and 20 the final week.

Daydreamer, sounds great.. heheh. At least you can claim you didn't hold back!

DC - I can just see my girls doing that. My youngest is too little to keep up right now, but time will change that for certain.

Jamie - I really hope it helps... that kind of troubleshooting is fun for me, especially when a good amount of the time people get themselves back on track. And thanks- that run was everything I hoped.

qotd: Hm, I've got some UD handhelds that need help. I love them, but everytime they save my bacon when I fall, the cinch strap breaks and the bottle flops around on my hand until I can stitch it back on. I've got two that have been sewn back on multiple times (what? I fall sometimes :-D ). Maybe if I use fishing line instead... maybe I'm just not very good with a needle and thread.

                  SRD.

QOTD: I have some shoes sitting on a shelf that should probably be tossed, but I use one pair for yard work and the other pair for turkey hunting. I don't think those Peregrines will make through another spring turkey season. But I probably won't hunt too hard next spring. I'll be more focused on running, so they might.

Nothing yet today, but the plan is the typical weeknight 7 miler out at Green Lane. It's chilly here today. Well at least in the house. I had to upgrade my home office attire to sweatpants and sweatshirt. Maybe close a few more windows. Good running weather though.

QOTD: I have 2 pairs of lone peaks where the tread still looks good but the uppers are showing some wear and the cushioning might be a bit worn down as well. I should get a new pair of those, and maybe a new pair of Torin's for the road since the dark season is approaching,

In dog beers, I've only had one.

Skipped yesterdays run because we had too much was going on.  We were getting ready for a family party at our house.  DD#1 is home and everyone got to see her. So will run this evening when I get home.

QOTD:  Had a pair of Inov8's I just retired for the second time.  Somehow (I have 3 pars that all look the same) they got back in the rotation after being retired and  my legs were feeling sore after a mid length run. When I got home I noticed some treads had worn off and then I looked at the date and saw they were an old old pair. (I date my shoes so I know when to get rid of them). I had worn them "again" for a few weeks before noticing.  Now they are in shoe heaven.

                      “Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!

The only complaint I have about the Lone Peaks are that the cushion seems to diminish too soon. But then again, I have run tons of miles in them, including one 100 mile race in just that pair. So, maybe it is just me. However, the tread looks brand new.

Awesome day here, blue skies, breezy, 64F.  About to head out for some road miles around the hood. Got some good miles this weekend, best running I have had in months. Guess the anti-biotics may have helped. Of course now it just leaves me to focus on my heel and achilles that have givin' me fits since a Feb. snowshoe race. See a specialist later this week. Always something these days. Geriatric runner    Speaking of which,, ran into an old training bud from back in the day on Sunday running in the Arb. He's now 68 and said he's retired from racing after completing his 150th ultra or marathon. Says he only runs 5 or so now with some walking thrown in. Still looks like he could run sub 3 hours.

And a running bra that chafes too frequently now, but I love it more than the others so I'm reluctant to give it up, trying to manage the chafing

What does it take for you not to love it?   Reminds me of my mother who was so proud of this beautiful antique clock of hers. When I asked how it worked she said "well other than losing 10 minutes a day it kept great time".

QOTD--we mentioned socks awhile back and how many pairs we had. I now have a lot less as I have been pitching a number of pairs that were showing their age.  Otherwise when you're only running 24 mpw you don't wear out too much.

I ran Saturday and Sunday but no run this morning.  My sleeping for an hour and then walking outside for a few minutes makes getting up in the am a little hard.  Hope to run after work.

QOTD:  I have a couple of pairs of black Capri tights that are getting baggy from the stretch in them dying.  May be time to go but then again I rarely see anyone in the am so who cares.

AT:  For a while I numbered my Cascadia's so I knew which were the newest ones.  The dates makes more sense.

Still a little humid but overcast and 70F seemed nice anyway. A solid 8 miles at better than average pace with 2 miles at tempo pace thrown into the middle.

QOTD: nothing of immediate need but I have a few old shirts I've retired and keep for posterity including the first shirt I ever got at a race from the 1972 AAU National Marathon Championships.

                                I wasn't going to say anything, but . . .

My DD has an old UnderArmour bra (with old-school sizing options) that she's had for about 4 years that is now chafing her back really badly, but she doesn't like any of the newer ones that only come in S,M, L.  My DW found a website still selling the older ones and literally bought all that they had, all 14 of them.

And a running bra that chafes too frequently now, but I love it more than the others so I'm reluctant to give it up, trying to manage the chafing (not too hot weather, shorter runs, etc.)
