Morning All!  -2 this morning and this is going to be our high!  it's supposed to drop throughout the day, dropping down to -25 by morning- oh joy

got 5.5 miles on the treadmill last night- getting very old, will strength train this evening

qotd: outdoor decorations in your neighborhood?  I would say about 50% have lights and other bits (all we have is a wreath)- a couple over the top, but more subdued than other neighborhoods I've driven through- no inflatables that I've seen close by

It was 40* here this morning, but I didn't run. I ran hard after work yesterday, and I had to do the bills this morning. I'll get out after work today for probably 5 more miles after I go pick up a few groceries. I need to find some good mileage next week; I am already behind my scheduled mileage by about 20 miles.

QOTD: Nothing really in my "neighborwood". Everyone keeps it simple back here.

Didn't run yesterday, woke up with that vertigo thing again.  It was bad and the first time I've had it for a long while.  It took until noon to go away. Today everything is totally back to 'normal' and feel like it never happened.  I was able to get it together and go to a Dept holiday dinner last night, funny thing is one of the guy's wife is an audiologist and a specialist in the situation, she was impressed I know what the Epley maneuver is and that I'm able to control the situation with it.

I'm off today and doing some stuff around the house, now that the bathroom (with our 2 closets) is done we can unpack those last few boxes with closes, etc. unpacked.  But I'll fit in a 5 miler sometime today.

        Darn mt, that is cold.

qotd: I guess we have about half with lights, we put out two little deer with those white lights outlining them plus a wreath and some bows on the front door lights.  Basically low key and the bare minimum.

Got in 5 miles in 20* cold and wind last night. Thankfully, the winds died down from earlier gusts of 30 mph. It was a holiday lights run in DC looping around the white house, mall, and capital.  Good beer and a raffle afterwards.

DigDug-- good to hear from you yesterday!

Haven't run yet today since I was shopping new auto and home insurance. Saved some good $ by switching, but god, what a scam.

qotd: Our immediate neighborhood is pretty quiet this year. Lot less lights than usual. I didn't put anything up and so I can't say anything, but I do really like to see lights and displays. That said, I also don't want to live right next door to the crazy inflatable/1 million lights people.

I was cold most of the day yesterday's after my arctic run.  Friend told me it was -5* wind chill while we were out.  So to answer a QOTD from last week, that's my limit.

No run planned for today. Supposed to ice and snow, so we'll see where I get to run tomorrow.

DW texted me that one of their residents went outside from his house late last night and fell and then froze to death.  He had his own cottage, so nothing they could have done ( he was behind car, so couldn't see him on any cameras).  A neighbor found him this morning.  It was 8 degrees overnight last night. Not a way to go. I hope he had a heart attack and died quicker than freezing to death.

            Have a great weekend, everyone.

QOTD:  We have our usual lights up, and I'd say about 1/2 are decorated.  We keep our light up until Epiphany and my neighbor, who decorates after Halloween, always teases me about leaving them up. Every year I remind him the 12 days of Christmas start AFTER Christmas.

^ they found a woman dead here in the snow by her house yesterday, sounds like she had been out all night long before being found (below zero that night)

I always said drowning would be the worst way for me to go, but freezing to death is right up there on my list of ways not to die.

not sure if I believe this, but some suggest that death by freezing isn't too painful, after a certain point you just go to "sleep"???

                  I'm with you on drowning!

I have read that freezing to death is more peaceful at the end. But, I don't want to find out either way. I definitely don't want to drown.

Put in about three hours at the gym today. This time I was able to get through the weight room pretty quick as there wasn't much competition for weights and I could get into a routine. Thought I'd get out in a little over 2 hours then I decided to run on the treadmill instead of rowing since I want to hit my 1500 miles by tomorrow and the weather is supposed to be crummy. Ended up with 5.5 miles in 50 minutes. Did some intervals and a nice long walk to cool down.  Somehow after not having a real blister from running for the past 4 years I developed one today .  Guess I should have wore good shoes instead of old worn out ones.

Drowning vs freezing?  Drowning would be quicker but more painful I think. Still wouldn't want to go out either way.  Had a older man that fell through the ice on a creek a few years ago. We think he froze more than drowned and in that case it was probably really quick.

QOTD:  We have two wreaths hanging on our doors with lights in them. That's more then most of our neighbors.  Living in a area with a high population of quite conservative Mennonites means you don't see a lot of lights.  There is one guy about a mile away that has a lot of lights out. Actually did a very nice job with it with the exception of the blow up dinosaur.

I meant to get up this morning and run, really I did.  But last night was a night that I felt like I was awake all night.  I would drift into a dream only to wake up and be awake for a while.  I am sure it will hit me later.  As far as running.  Who knows? Supposed to be ice and snow and turn to rain this weekend.  So maybe if the ice isn't too bad.

So is the QOTD on which is the worse way to die?

I cannot imagine either but I thought I heard that once a person succumbs to the water the lungs fill up and it doesn't hurt anymore.  Maybe the same when the body starts to put itself to sleep when freezing.  But really it's those few minutes (hopefully only a few) of suffering beforehand.  How about the kids whose parents leave them in the car during summer?

Oh wait that wasn't the QOTD.  It's just a question about stupid decorations -

I think most people have at least something out.  Some go a bit overboard.  We went a little on the minimal side this year - mainly because many of my strands of lights were dead.  I was too lazy to go buy more.

Have a great weekend! Just found out my boys b-ball games are cancelled for tomorrow due to the icy weather.  Now a whole day to get stuff done around the house.  I cannot believe I am actually excited about that.

8 on the TM at lunch today - too freakin cold to run outside this morning.  Awful to hear about people freezing to death, but I agree with others that there are a lot worse ways to go (with drowning or burning being at the top of the list).

QOTD:  we live on a main street with some neighbors who are great, classy decorators.  We are lame and just put a wreath on the door, although last year we bought one of those laser light projectors to shine green and red spots on our house - all the magic of stringing lights from your gutters with only 3 minutes of effort.  It's very classy.

                          Are we there, yet?

Some rather morbid topics on the dailies today. At least my new RoadID arrived a couple days ago and I have it registered and updated my profile (interactive version), so if someone finds me frozen they'll at least know who I was.

qotd: not much in the way of decorations in the neighborhood.
