103° heat index today in my neck of the woods. Not fit for man or beast out there. Still don't know how Sandy and Burke live in the hot zone like they do. I could not do it.

No run today.  Early run tomorrow planned. Distance will depend on my energy and the heat.

Really enjoyed the "Father's Day" answers.  Marie - good luck with your Dad. I know it hard. Can you get a fast passport renewal?  Try your local congressman, sometime they can get it through faster.

QOTD:  Now that Summer will officially be here (in 3 days), any vacation plans?   Nothing for us until our Colorado trip in September.  We booked a place in Leadville for 4 days and DD#1 and her BF are coming from Portland to visit for our first 3 days.  The  head to Estes Park for 3 nights and hook up with NH and Warden and anyone else who makes the trip.

    “Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!

It was super muggy this morning, but I ran very comfortably in it. Last summer, I dreaded getting out in it because I had so many miles that I needed to complete. I am really enjoying just running for fun. I have no desire to go into a training cycle right now. I'm just having fun running.

QOTD: A couple of weeks ago did our beach vacation, so that was it. Then, last Thursday happened. My daughter in Denver was flying home for one of her dear friend's funerals. He was tragically killed in a car accident last week. The plane took off, but one engine went out about 30 minutes into the flight. There was a loud boom, followed by a high pitched whine and a loss of altitude. They ended up safely on the ground back in Denver. We were halfway to NOLA to pick her up. She refused to get back on any airplane and took the airline credit. So, her mom can fly out later. She paid for the ticket, and I agreed to give her some money on it. But, since she is using it herself, that is no longer needed. Nevertheless, my wife suggested that we do a road trip at the end of this week to Colorado. I have a very short turnaround on this deal, so we are driving straight through to Denver, spending a couple of days there and driving straight through to get home on Monday. I used to be a road trip specialist when I was in the Marines, and we had long weekends from time to time. I once left Camp Lejeune with 67 cents in change, a can of tuna, and a full tank of gas headed to Florida for a long weekend. My buddy, who lived there, had 20 bucks, so we had enough for gas. I cashed a check with his dad when we got there. It was one of the most fun trips I ever took.

22.2 Miles mountain biking with DS yesterday.  The old man kicked his tail .  He's heading off to Tx again for training in a few days and is going to leave his bike at home. I think I'll use it a few times as payment for storage . It's a full suspension Giant 27.5. I've been thinking about getting a 29er so I'd like to see how much better a bike with larger tires rides.

Might do a bike ride with DW later today depending on the heat.

QOTD: Texas in the middle of September. Looking for something else to do out that way, just not sure what time will allow.

          Sandy-2

SRD today.  We're supposed to get a few more inches of rain today so it would have been a good day to run, but I won't have time after work. Maybe it'll still be raining tomorrow - hope so.

LB2, that plane incident sounds really scary.  Hope the impromptu road trip goes ok.

qotd: I have a business trip to Miami next month so my DW and I are going to make a long weekend out of it.  No other plans at the moment.

            I lost my rama

AT - I passed by Gettysburg early Sat morning en route to VA.  Yes, the weather is starting to perk up a bit.

LB2 - Scary about DD's plane.  Hope she can get over that.  Very cool road story!  Yes, sometimes the unplanned, unprepared trips come out to be the best.

warden - Enjoy that great running weather while the rest of us suffer!

Dreamer - Vacation in Texas in September?  Well, by then you should be acclimated to the hot weather.  Nice job on that mountain bike!

It'll be close to 90 today, so easy to call it a rest (drink cold beer) day.

QOTD:  DW and I haven't had a chance to plan anything this year since she's been dealing with her ill father.  But his health seem to be stabilizing, and she really needs a break.  In an impromptu fashion we'll probably get away to the Caribbean next month to St. Martin.  Even though it was recently devastated by a couple hurricanes, it would make me feel better to help the local businesses as they rebuild the island.  The only running I'll plan to be doing is to the bar.

              3/17 - NYC Half

4/28 - Big Sur Marathon  DNS

              6/29 - Forbidden Forest 30 Hour

8/29 - A Race for the Ages - will be given 47 hours

I got in a nice almost 10 miles on the AT Saturday morning,  It's the longest I have run in a while and felt good the further into the run I got.  Then later in the day DW and I went tubing.  Surprisingly, there were not many people out - just a few kayakers.  We floated for 2+ hours.  That is how we celebrated our 17th anniversary.

Marie - sorry to hear about your dad.  I pray you can work it out to go see him real soon.

QOTD: Chincoteague in 2 weeks! Beach life here we come.  We are super excited.  I also need to plan a weekend get-a-way for DW and I but slacking on the planning part.  Thinking August or if not September hopefully.  We usually do something in June but too much was happening this June.

                Have a great day!

My favorite day of the week is RUNday

No run yet...I am going to wait until the sun goes down. It is tooooo hot.

                  • LB: scary plane story...I can see why your DD decided to keep her feet on the ground.

                  Warden: I am way jealous.

I am making a major purchase...I am buying a used Eliptigo. I've wanted one for a while and found a deal on a used one. If I can find a safe route I hope to ride it to work. It has a trailer attachment I can take the grand daughter for a spin. It will be a good exercise alternative.

QOTD: No vacation plans. Lots of trips to Indiana, and a weekend planned at a campground I've never been to and explore new trails. Wednesday I reserved a camp site at the local state park. After work I will go set up camp and go for a late run from spring into summer. Then an early run to greet the sun. Then to work. I am hopeful the weather will be cooperative.

Leaving Friday. The race is on trails in Canmore. Haven't been able to find a course profile, but it's required to carry bear spray during the race so I expect it to be pretty wild. Besides Canmore is a major ski area.

                        Faster Than Your Couch!

No run today, but grilling and swimming at the lake after work with my 3 DSs. Fun. Today's heat index was only 97 here, and it was quite bearable, but still humid.

Just on Father's Day, my dad told me that he has metastases from cancer all over his body, lungs, liver, a second parotid tumor that cannot be removed. He expects to die very soon, so I am trying to get an emergency passport issued. Problem is, I have booked our vacation starting this coming Friday for a week, but I'd need to go to Washington DC to apply for the passport (can only be done in person). I also have to arrange for the boys to stay with friends because I am not allowed to take them abroad with me (court order), the pets all taken care of, and somehow still be in contact with DD on her all-across-the-country roadtrip. Right now she's in California on her way to Oregon, so she can't be back soon.

AT: I'm Austrian citizen, so it goes through the embassy. I used to have a good business relationship with the ambassador, but then she got replaced, and I don't even know the new one, never have seen him.

QOTD: I had planned to go camping in northern Pennsylvania, but with all things happening now, I probably won't be able to go. There's no phone or internet service there (or at least, very spotty), and we wouldn't have a good time anyway. Not sure what I'll do, I don't want to lose the money (can't get a refund any more), can't reschedule my time off from work, don't want to lose this one opportunity in this summer to go on vacation with the boys, but wouldn't be able to enjoy it anyway. Things would be much easier if that vacation was later in the summer, August perhaps.

                          Run for fun.
