running under the BigSky

Morning All!  Had a tough hill sessions yesterday, going to try for something a little less taxing- 5-6 miles this evening is the plan

qotd: what do use for calories for long runs?  I used to use liquid calories, have tried a ton of different gels, cubes, etc but now have gone completely with natural stuff and water- knock on wood haven't had any stomach distress since and seems to be working.  My new fav is from Natural Grocers (maybe others) "Chunks of Energy"- Cacao and Goji (with dates, chia, raisins and bunch of other things)

6 miles yesterday  on the rail trail then a 5 mile hike with the GF.

QOTD I switch it up with gels, PB&J, pop tarts, gummi bears (I bite the little heads off first) and rice crispy treats.

Despite yesterday's high wind, I had a very nice lunchtime road run. 8 miles into town and back. Today, well it's colder but I don't hear the wind. I think the Lady I will check out the trails at Green Lane tonight. Likely our typical 7 mile loop on the blue trail.

QOTD: Gels, sports drink, either Gatorade, or Tailwind. For runs longer than 4 hours I will eat some real food, pbj, pudding, fruit. None of that new age hippy stuff for me. Big grin

In dog beers, I've only had one.

Doing a quick flyby to tell you all hello....

After "training" with 1 run a week for the Rodeo Beach 20k this last December, I signed up for my 7th  Annadel Half Marathon and started actually doing midweek runs.  I managed to log 69 miles for the month of February with 32 of those on trails.

Do we still have a Trail porn thread?  I've got some pictures for that...

Ran a 3 mile Tempo run last night with the group.  Good times.

Oh and QOTD:  Nature Valley Sweet and Salty Granola Bars have been a godsend.  Not getting the sugar crash I was experiencing with gels.

Did a little joggy jog this morning of 4.3 miles.  My heel is killing me for at least the first 3/4 of a mile then it's a mellow pain.  My new shoes that I was happy with 2 days ago are rubbing the inside of my feet.   take them back to REI or wait a bit?  We are expecting a storm from 3 to 5 inches of rain depending on who you listen to.  Seems the femal weatherman say it's 3 inches while the male weatherman say it's 5 inches....

            How's everyone else doing?

QOTD:  PBJ and gels.  No particular about brands just pick based on flavors.  At races I love the potatoes in salt.  I have yet to feel sick and not being able to eat while running.

Getting ready to head out for about 8-9 miles. Most of it on the dirt roads around the house but there will some steep hills. Really need to increase the miles and hills if I want to have a decent run at my 1/2 in 4 weeks.

Queen - Typical female, always underestimating measurements .

QOTD: Perpetuem or Sustained energy, Tailwind. Sometimes gels, either Clif Shots or Hammer gel.  Quite often I'll take along some Nature Valley Oats and Honey Granola bars.  I have found the Gogurt tubes to work pretty good for me but I don't like to let them get too warm so I don't use them for real long runs.

Tailwind seems to work the best for keeping my stomach happy but after about 3 hours I have trouble drinking enough. I can use the Perpetuem all day long but it makes me more prone to bear attacks.

                Rocky- welcome back

Sue- sometimes shoes will break in, for a temporary solution try Luekotape on your feet where you're getting rubbing (it's thin and sticks like the dickens).  After a week or so, try it without tape, if its still rubbing probably will need to take them back

Cold crisp run this morning. We still had some wind when I started and took me 2-3 miles until I warmed up.  Finished with around 12 miles. Didn't see a single person or critter the whole time, and 2 of the miles were on roads. Very peaceful.

Rocky - good to see you. nice pictures on the porn thread.

Queen - It all depends where you start the measurement from. When in doubt, always round up.

QOTD:  Runs under 3 hours, just water and a gel or two, or Tailwind. Longer, I'm going along with the PB&J crowd.  Agree, "Chunks of Energy" sounds way too Hipster for me. You'll be drinking PBR's out of a mason jar while you wait for your Artisan Pizza in no time.

                  “Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!

Hi trailers!  Just got back from lunch yoga, with our regular teacher back from leave, which I was not expecting.  Good news and hopefully I'll be more motivated to go again.  I'm planning for 4 miles on the trails, while the kiddos are swimming.

Hi Rocky-- good to have you drop in. Stop by more regularly, why don't you?

qotd:  I rarely run long enough to need food on the trail.  Just eat real stuff when I get done.  Like a reuben with artisanal corned beef.

                    Sandy-2

5 mi after the meetings today.  Went to the west on the south bank of the Thames. Then I did a little shopping for 'supplies', things we can't get in Korea. Mostly decaf coffee.  :-)

qotd: PowerGels, HamerGels and HEED.  Sometimes I'll also eat a  granola bar or two.

Got in a nice 5 miles on trails coming home from a work meeting.

We're supposed to get a few inches of snow tonight but who knows how much we'll actually get.  Seems to depend on who the forecaster is.  Oh, wait - we had that conversation already!

                        Rocky - welcome back!

DD - stop with the longish runs!!!

Queen - what's going with your 2016 in 2016 team??? Aren't you the leader?

QOTD: Tailwind and sometimes a half sandwich depending on the distance.

                        Have a great night!

We average 4.5 people posting zero miles each week.  If they don't post for three weeks they are replaced but my co-captian is sweet (unlike me) and reaches out to them to see what's up.  They then ask to be placed on the injured list.   It's early Jamie...we can only go up and you can only go down...unless you stay #1 and we stay in last place.
