    Holy cow...or bull in this case...100 lbs is more than I weigh.  That much meat would take a lifetime for DH and I to eat.

      Great story. I cannot imagine how difficult it must have been.

       

      I will plead ignorance about all things hunting, and at the risk of sounding stupid...did you have to work a long time to get into position for the shot? Was he standing there by himself or with a herd? Do bulls get cranky during the Buffalo version of Rut?

        moonlight we spotted the bull about 250 yards off the trail; we waited on the trail while Dave closed the distance to about 75 yards

         

        because there is such limited hunting on bison, they definitely aren’t as skittish as deer/elk

         

        he was all by his lonesome which was fine by us, I’ve heard of instances where a herd can get really owly

         

        they do get cranky when they are rutting- usually July/August, we were definitely post rut- all the cows/calves were already lower in the Lamar Valley
