Mt. Marathon 2016 (Read 19 times)

In case anyone can find video of this year's women's race, watch it.

    https://www.facebook.com/ktva11/videos/10153528726097511/ looks like it.

This lists a bunch of shots - some race from last year, some up-close-and-personal with the race course itself - things to watch out for in the various sections. I suspect this year's race will appear online soon.

    Here's part of men's https://www.facebook.com/ktva11/videos/10153528697242511/

KTVA (CBS, CH 11) streamed the entire race (as well as men's) using about 4 on-ground cameras and helicopter. Announcers included Clint McCool (17 finishes, 10 top 10, I think) and Holly Brooks (2 time winner, Olympic xc skier). Excellent coverage. 30-min pre-race and 60 min race + post-race for each race. (YES! Equal coverage for both men and women.) They've been doing this  a couple years now. Holly watched the men's race from the booth, but wasn't announcing, just so she could see the whole race.

The thing about the women's race is that Christy Marvin had a very strong race (personal best, but not CR), including running UP part of the course (about 25:40 into race, by clock on right side). Keep in mind, the course is about 3000ft up in about 1 mile - some spots are less steep than others. Many people use those for recovery. There was also some interesting passing on the downhill between the next few runners. Course isn't fixed - you can go where you want.

A new men's record was set. After record standing for 30+ yrs, it's been broken 3 of the last 4 years.

Both championships are back home in Alaska. Smile

I believe at least one winning bids topped $4000 in the auction for last 10 spots in race. This would be for a 5k.

      Did you go this year?

      “Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!

        Thanks, for sharing.

        Did you go this year?

No, I'm too slow to run it, plus it's lottery. And I don't like being in crowds of 1000s of people to watch. Not mention the highway to get there is one of the more dangerous in the state - esp. on July 4.
