running under the BigSky

Too dry and too warm here, nice for running, not so nice for stream flows and fire season. Can only hope for April showers.

Got a nice 5-ish miles in last night, will try and get the same this evening.

qotd: first/next race?  Mine is the Don't Fence Me In 30k May 8, they took a tough race and made it tougher, added ~ 1.5 miles and a couple of new climbs

      Good morning, trailers,

No running yet this week due to a death of one of my oldest cousins. Lung cancer at age 68. Traveled 400 miles RT yesterday for the funeral. Only good thing was seeing relatives that I rarely get to see and a lot of nostalgic conversations.

Hope to get time at lunch for a brisk 3 miles.

QOTD:  Sole Challenge 24hr race. I'm no where near the shape I was in the past 2 years for this race, so might just be winging it.

      “Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!

        Morning guys!

I got stung by a jellyfish on my shin last week and it's just now starting to get really itchy.  Ugh.  Anyway, I ran 7 on the trail last night.  Looks like a whole lotta rain later, so I'll just go for an easy dog walk.  Trying to ease back into this running thing after vacation.  I'll try for 4 days this week.

        Sorry to hear that, AT.

QOTD:  I'm registered for a 24 hour race in September, but have no plans to run for that long.  I'm mostly there to support friends, but maybe I'll be able to knock out a decent amount of miles (for me) too.

        Running is dumb.

Not too bad out there last night. The wind started to calm down as my run progressed and it ended up being quite pleasant. We did about 10.5 miles on the trails on the "easy" side of Green Lane reservoir. Sort of raced some dude the first mile. He kept taking short cuts through the meadows while I zinged into and out of the single track in the woods. I still left him in my dust.

Today, it looks to be a nice day which means a nice evening so I think 8-10 miles out at Coventry Woods.

QOTD: The next race I am currently signed up for is the Mohican100 in June. However, I do plan a 50k in May, but need to commit to one (Capon Valley VA  or World's End PA), assuming they are not full.

In dog beers, I've only had one.

Stopped at  Gifford Pinchot state park last night. We got 1/2 inch of rain the day before  followed by winds up to 50 miles an hour,  I thought it would be pretty decent there, I was wrong. There  were large shoe sucking mud puddles every couple hundred yards made worse by bikes riding through them. Took me 2 hours for a flat 7 miles.

            Sorry about your cousin AT.

QOTD I don't have anything planned,  sort of thinking about doing Labor Pains in Reading, PA this summer.

Mr Jangles and I got ten in this morning on the muddy roads.

QOTD: I m signed up to do Yankee Springs 100 in June then in August I'm sign up for Marquette 100k. On a related note I was talking to the wife about wanting to sign up for a 25k trail run in Paradise MI in early August as a warm up for Marquette. While I was checking out the site it seems I already registered On Jan 1st.  I don't even remember signing up for this race.

Great title Warden! Let's pray for some rain for you guys.  Certainly don't want a bad fire season.  I got in 7.6 miles last night.  It was one of those runs that I almost called it quits at the 2-3 mile mark.  Legs were tired, could not keep warm, mentally not in it, etc.  But I pushed on and the second half was great.

XT - sorry to say that World's End is sold out.  That has become a very popular race.  (see my comment below on Iron master's - you should jump into that one - end of April not May though).

AT - sorry for your loss

Muppy - it is almost always muddy at Pinchot - unless you hit it in the middle of summer after a month of no rain.  Otherwise, it seems to be a mess - although mostly at the northern end.

QOTD: Hyner 50k in 3+ weeks.  I am sooooo looking forward to it.  My favorite race - missed it the last 2 years after 3 straight years.  If I can at least come close to my goal of 7 hours on it, I will probably retire from Hyner this year.  (You know what that means AT? The Iron Master's next year!)

                Have a great day!

My favorite day of the week is RUNday

I'm not marking the course this year since I'll be away in Pinhurst on a golf trip that weekend. Ironmasters has really grown and I think they sold out this year. I'll hopefully be helping again next year and may even mark it and then run it like I did 3 years ago.

I'm always up for a recon trip on the course if anyone wants to come to Pine Grove Furnace. Jamie and I had fun last time.

                  Gator - Is this like a "Drunk-Texting" thing, and you "Drunk-Sign Up'd" a race?

A quickie well shorty..4.3 this morning.  My legs were dragging a bit.  Gym at lunch for the core.  Did 6 ish last nigh and can't remember the run but the views were beautiful.  The sky was dark but the sun was showing as setting.  It was casting a beautiful yellow light on the woods.  Then when I returned to the now sun setting side I was treated with a rainbow against the dark clouds.

QOTD:  I am signed up for a Ragner relay in July but that is just for fun and I plan on drinking during some of the runs.  I am toying with the idea of Marquette but I really don't want to do the 100K but the 50 mile is full.    I suppose I could always drop at 50 miles but that seems weird.

                      AT:

Muppy:  That run sounds like hell.

Gator Eye:  Where you drinking when you signed up...New Years and all.

                      Are we there, yet?

I'm expecting to be sore tomorrow, bruised and beat up. Today was 8 miles, 2 loops of the Mt Joy - Mt Misery trail with about 1500 ft of elevation gain, 3 falls including one that tore a penny sized flap of skin on the heel of my left hand. Sorry, no pictures for you ghouls.

QOTD: Next race Hyner 25K. Hope to meet Mr Jamie there.

Muppy - Labor Pain is two weeks before North Coast. It's a maybe for me.

Was able to get out to Donald park after work for a slow 5 miles. Sluggish legs, either a hardish road bike last night or all day on my feet or both were the reason(excuse) I think. I'll go with the bike. Raining again right now--sorry Warden.

Heading north right after work tomorrow to continue my maple syrup thing. I will have roughly 140 gallons of sap to boil waiting for me. Guess what I'll be doing the next few days. Still will manage to get some good trail mileage in as DW and DD will be up and can cover for me.

QOTD--Next race??  I am now officially retired from events. Age has caught up to me and I have no desire to play that game anymore. It's gone for me after 35 years and 196 races in the books.(and a lot of fucking shirts ) Epic runs are what I am planning for and just enjoying the runs at my now pathetic pace.

                          Sandy-2

I actually got my ass outta bed and did 5 mi before work.  It was a nice morning to run and I had to be up and at work for a 7am conference call with the US anyway.  I also have a 7pm conference call with the US (different group) later today as well.  Grrrrr.

qotd:  I'm thinking about doing this. It's a 30k on May 1st, some of it is on the same trail I ran last Saturday (along the fortress wall).
