Nice run, Jamie.  Is that Stony Valley RR Grade that you were on?  I think I've been to that tower (off Rattling Run Trail?) and when I was there gate was locked.  Looks like a great day.

      “Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!

Thanks, Jamie.  What a nice day for the trails!  (oh, it's always nice on the trails)

Yes that is Stony Valley Rail Trail.  Rattling Run Trail is there somewhere so yes that is the same tower - it's a few miles from the AT parking area off of RT 325.  I was very surprised to see an open gate.  It was inviting me in.  I would never have tried to scale the 9 foot fence that had barbed wire.  I am a bit regretful I didn't go to the top and get some pictures though.

Thanks for the great photos, and the write up of an excellect adventure.

I've added the photos to my growing trail porn collection, which runs as a slide show on my desktop wallpaper.

Sweet photos.. I had nearly identical conditions for my run on Saturday at French Creek. About 500-600 feet up, the trees were a brilliant white, below that, thing were bare. It made for a great contrast on the drive over. About ready to post some photos myself.

I think I recognize parts of your. That's up where the Horeshoe trail terminates with the AT on Stony Mountain, right? Anyways, looks like a fantastic day.

In dog beers, I've only had one.

Wonderful read and I love the pictures!

It's the general vicinity.  I did not go on the AT on this day...maybe 2-3 miles from it but yes it is the area you are thinking of.  I stayed on the HST and other side trails.
