Saw this on a Ultra site today. Very sad. I had heard he was healing slowly, but didn't think his complications were as bad as they apparently are. Makes our aches and pains seem trivial.

I read about this last night and I absolutely understand his decision. Why go through another painful and most likely useless surgery again when you could just chop it off and be hiking in the mountains again in 6-8 weeks? Quality of life.
Running is dumb.
Seems to be the best alternative and hope he's healthy and running around in no time!

Poor guy. I hadn't been following this at all since the accident. I'd probably do the same thing although one never knows until you've been through it yourself.
