IM AG win (Read 178 times)

T-Bone

Puttin' on the foil

Hi everybody.  Finally took my AG at an IM event last weekend.  It's been a goal for several years.  The secret?  You don't have to get faster, just get older!

Here's my blog address.  It has a full race report and some pictures.  Not sure how to make a link so you'll have to do a copy/paste job in your browser.  Hope all is well with everybody.

I looked you up as I figured you'd be doing that race but didn't want to start a thread about it. I'm no flippin stocker, just a triathlon fan.

Congrats on the AG win and I think 44th OA.

Question for you........Do you feel the coaching has helped you in getting this win and another Kona spot?

        Congrats T-Bone

I'm also curious on the coaching aspect as I'm thinking of getting one. Gonna probably give the IM one more shot and then get one pending how much I improve.

        Anyone heard of these guys:

Wow...excellent!  I love the mental game...not letting the other guys see you look back.  I even try to do that.  I've been in races where I see the person in front of me look back and it always gives me confidence to reel them in.  Nice work, Troy!

              BT's been stalking you too?

I must admit that I've memorized your password and occasionally look at your log.  In fact, I have conversations with my wife about your training log.  She'll be excited to hear from me tonight that T-Bone won his AG.  Said differently, I'll be excited to tell her, and I'll received a rolled eyes response....  Smile
              Cheers,
              Brian

Hey - to answer the questions about coaching - the short answer is that it was/is huge for me.  I always took great pride in being self coached.  The "pride" part was the problem.  My coach took an objective look at my results and identified weaknesses that I had subconsciously overlooked, although looking back on it the weaknesses were obvious.  He set out a plan and those weakness are, for the most part, gone.  The other part that I love it now I don't have to sit around creating a plan.  My coach does it.  He sends me the workouts and I do them.  That's it.  I spend much less time thinking.  Now I just do.

I know the guys at Q2R Systems.  That is Tim Snow.  His wife is Cait Snow, 3rd place at the IM World Championships last year with a run split of 2:50 or something crazy like that.  They are really good, but probably a little pricey.

Please feel free to ask anything you want.

                  Well Done T-bone!

decent swim + 2nd best bike + best run = great day

Now when you were coming down the finishing shoot, were you thinking, "Man I should have gone 17 seconds faster to break 10!"?

I wish that someday someone would refer to me as having "Tree Trunk Legs"

I have thought about picking up a coach to try and improve, but there are a couple things stoping me right now

                  1. Cost, If my wife knew now much I have spent on my races and equipment (even though I bought everything used)

                  2. Following a Plan - I need to get into the habit of sticking to my own plan first.  If I can't follow my own instructions do to work, family and other time constraints, they I will never follow someone elses

                  3. I am not at that level yet. I need a lot of help just getting my basic fitness together (eating right, swimming and running with better form). If I get a coach, it will be to take me from Good to Great, not from Average to Good.
