swim cap (Read 240 times)

IMKY13 finish!!

Well, my first triathlon (sprint distance) is 7 weeks away.  I am not the best swimmer, but I am getting a tad better each time.  I have seen some people with swim caps & some without.  Other than keeping hair dry (which I don't care about), is there any real "advantage" of using a swim cap versus not?  Thanks!!

    Fitness/weight goals for 2014

    1) STAY INJURY FREE!!!

    2) Get to 189 lbs by the end of July 2014...and stay there (as of 4-25-14 was at 203 lbs)

    3) Complete Ironman Chattanooga in under 14 hours

    4) Break 4 hours in a stand alone marathon (Goal race=Rocket City 12/13/14)

    5) 4,500 total overall miles for the year:

             Swim: 100 miles

             Bike: 3,000 miles

             Run: 1,400 miles

In you triathlon, you will have to wear one. Some tri's use different colors to seperate the starting waves, others use a certain color so the life guards can look for that color as you swim to see if you go under and come back up.

As for training swim sessions, I'd start swimming with one on from time to time just to get used to swimming with one.

I wear a silicon one in the pool because if I don't my hair turns into straw because of the chlorine.  Silicon is better because it does pull your hair like the cheap rubber ones.  They cost about $12.  I wear brightly colored caps when I swim in open water so I am more visible.

wish i had the hair to worry about...  you can always spend $25 on a pair of clippers instead!

          Oh Mighty Wing

I wear a florescent pink one... cause it's AWESOME!!

Here is the secret for the rubber ones: put powder in them after wearing. (dry it off first) The powder does 2 things - helps keep it from sticking to itself and helps keep it from pulling your hair out (and no it won't fall off). Just use a little.
