Naya Nuki.... Girl Who Ran (Read 206 times)

I would like to recommend a book called Naya Nuki (which means "Girl Who Ran.") This is actually a children's book (~4th grade level). It's young target audience only means that the vocabulary and syntax are simple, but the story is one for all ages.

This is a dramatization of a true story about a Shoshoni girl (and a close friend of Sacajawea) who was kidnapped along with many others on a hunting expedition and taken far away to work as a slave for another Native American tribe. She escapes and has to run 1,000 miles to return home.  How she survived alone and kept traveling on very little food is a wonderful story.

Thanks. Sounds like something I can read with my DD.
