On the Bench

Finished!

On the treadmill! I went to check in with a foot/ankle specialist about my feets since it seems I still get a sharp pain in my right ankle - even though I haven't run since the end of January (oh woe is me!) PT had cleared me for some treadmill work, but the sharp pain appeared at 4.5mph so I backed off and only managed to plod along at a ridiculously slow jog of 4mph for a little while. Anyhow, the Podiatrist has ordered a bone scan, and is thinking I might need more rigid orthotics made (since I'm such an awful over pronater and I'm sure the extra weight I'm carrying around isn't helping things at all). In the meantime, he's also told me no treadmill running until we figure out what is going on.
    Walk + Jog = wog.

    Now that was a bath...

Awwww honey. Sorry to hear that. At least you have some proactive care going on which will hopefully lead to an answer though. I can;t believe how many of us have been struck down with long term injuries! Swift healing. Claire xxx

Sorry to hear of the new order. We all here can commiserate with that feeling. Instead of focusing on not running, why don't you think of it as having time to do things that you always wanted to do but can't because of running? Think of it as a sabbatical. I know, it's not the same, but try...
I'm so sorry - it is so bad when lack of diagnosis drags on. Please keep us informed of your results. I'll be here to keep you company for some time to come - um - I think that's a good thing Tongue

          Finished!

LOL - thanks you guys - one of my friends has suggested pool running Wink I'm mostly frustrated because now I'm paranoid that the bone scan won't show anything - after all, I've been "healing" for 2 months already - if I had given myself stress fractures, I would think that since I haven't been running, they would have healed by now! Yet at the same time, I know something isn't quite right because I know that my ankle never had that sharp pain before - granted, it's intermittent, but that's what makes it even more frustrating!

Just to make you feel better - I tried to resume running about 8 weeks post fracture and I failed. Another three weeks rest and I am back out there issue free (finger's crossed). Hope it's the same for you! Claire xxx

My 2 stress fractures from 4/06 are still showing up on the bone scan - they are faint - but no question as to what they are - if you had a stress fracture - it will still show up - full healing generally can take up to a full year. The other thing is to make sure that it is healing if it is a stress fracture. Pool Running - it sucks - but it is the best cv workout you can get, when you can't do impact aerobics. The biggest thing you lose is your impact resistance - that's one of the biggest reasons to go slow after an extended recovery from an injury. Things may seem bleak, but you will be able to continue once they get all your foot issues worked out. Chin Up!

Cheryl- Can I get a "how to" on pool running from you? I tried just mimicking running in the deep end and it was... well.. awkward. And I looked like an idiot. Do I need a floatation device? How deep should the water be? How did you learn how to pool run? Thank you!!!!
Hey Shaunna - I have to run ( well not literally Roll eyes )right now - I'll post tips and links later.

I was in the same boat - I was pretty sure I had a stress fracture, but thought I could just be paranoid\over-interpretting my symptoms. I wasn't. In some ways it was a relief to know what I have and know what treatment is, even though it means hobbling around on vacation and on my surgery rotation for a while. Ick! I'll drink to speedy healing whatever it is!!! Cool
