I would appreciate any advice or help.  I am looking for an endocrinologist in the Atlanta area that deals with athletes.  My son runs in high school.  He started the season in August with a 5K 16:42 and ended the season at 18:00 plus.  We have just figured out he was hypothyroid, and he has been on medication for a couple of days.  His 5 hour blood glucose was normal and the at home finger pricks have ranged from 108 - 170 testing before and after runs.  On Sunday, January 1, he competed in a 4 mile run and finger prick read 255.  The GP has recommended an endocrinologist, but I want someone who is sensitive to kids who want to be athletes.  He is a high school senior and wanting to run in college.

Has anyone every heard of a non-diabetic reading 255? Can someone be a diabetic with some tests reading normal? We are scheduling more tests.
