Hi Gregg - haven't seen any posts from you in a long time. If you read this - just wanted to say Hi, and hope that everything is going OK with you...

I'am hanging in there!! Figthing something off right now. I have not been running in a long time and that worries me. Wife finally put her foot down. I came home from work and she told me NOT to turn off my cell phone, as my doctor was going to call me. "OK....WHAT did you do woman?" "Look, I have lost my dad, my mom is dying and ALL your numbers are out of line and I am NOT going to lose you too!!! Doc has been on you about working too many hours and you fight him on it. Well you are not going to fight him anymore 40 hr/weeks and that's final!!!" "OK" I told her she just missed her chance to be rid of me!! But she is right. My numbers are not good for me. I know other Ds have worse but for me they are bad and getting worse. My BP is 156/91 and my FBG is 120 with bed time numbers as high as 181. In the past those numbers have been almost perfect. 3 years of diet and exercise have worked. I even got off the BP meds. I hope the training that is coming up for the Indy Mini will help, but first I must find the energy to START training.

To paraphrase an old poster: Today is the first day of the rest of your training. It doesn’t matter where you started or how far you’ve come. Today is the day. Your training didn’t start 6 weeks ago. Your training started the last time you hit the road. John “the Penguin” Bingham Life is not tried, it is merely survived if you're standing outside the fire

I think the lack of motivation you're experiencing is normal. At least for me anyway. I go through this every year around the holidays/ wintertime. I'm barely running at all lately, and I know it has to change. My Dr. asked me the week before Christmas if I was going to get back to my usual running or if we should start trying to tweak my insulin doses to get my BGs back where they need to be. So today I went to the library to get a book about running - reading about running is one of the best motivators for me. I got the Jami Goldstein story called Up and Running. I'm pretty sure I'll run tomorrow, even if it's just on the treadmill at the Y. One of the things I have to convince myself every winter is that it's OK to run on the treadmill. I hate it, but I think I hate being cold more. The first couple runs after a break are not fun - but you know it will get better so get out there! (And I'll get out there myself Tongue )
Thanks so much for checking in. Sorry to hear that things are not going well, and so glad that your DW put her foot down!!! Go back and read some of your old logs - you were so enthusiastic about your training. You did it once before and you can do it again. Do what ever you have to, to DRAG yourself out there and make a start with your training!!! I know you have it in you to do. If I had 2 solid legs, I would be out there - but as it is, I am currently in rehab for my 4th stress fracture - this time femoral - sports med doc feels pretty strongly that this is bone metabolism related and not training related. So get off your butt and get out there and start walking!!!! You too Stacie!!! Here's wishing you a better New Year and hoping you find the strength to accomplish what ever goals you set for yourself Smile Cheryl

Thanks!!! I "intend" to start but then I just don't. Must call and sign up for Pace For the Race Training. That is our training group for the One America 500 Festival Mini Marathon. Training starts 1/26 for the race May 3rd. THAT will get me going. Nothing like running is about 40 other people to keep you in the game.

New to the group wanted to say hi and that I will be at that race bear. I live in southern indiana and am really looking forward to running it. Maybe I will see you there(granted like 35k run it).
Marktman, I live in Columbus. Moved here in 1994 from (don't often admit this) The People's Socialist Republic of Kaliefornia. I DON'T miss it. What estimated finish time did you give on your Race Application? I gave 3 hours

I can get 2:17 in training right now hoping to get 2 hrs or under for race. I've been training pretty hard for past 4 months getting ready for it. Doing the training I am dropping weight and have halved my bp meds and diabetes meds and hope when I lose another 35 lbs i can maybe get off them all together. Knowing the race is in may definitely helps me keep to training.
Well you'll be several corals ahead of me at the start. Last year I was in O. It took 15 minutes to reach the start line. Now for the bad news: I am BACK on BP meds. Doc seemed to think 167/98 was high. Could be! And my back pain is an inflamed nerve AGAIN!! However he seems to think it should not be too long to fix with the proper meds. I PRAY he jis right!!! Training starts in less than 24 days. Someday MAYBE I might need to have surgery to fix it but that is YEARS away

                      Double post for some reason

Well 2 days on the BP med and I see a real marked improvement!! Tonight was 120/77 Still having problems though with the inflamed nerve in my back and groin! I sure wish those meds worked as fast as the BP meds have!!! I'll bet my team as work does too! Pain makes being around me a pain! I am Scott/Irish/French and Cherokee. But with a long fuse most of the time.

Great news about the BP! Keeping my fingers crossed that everything else starts resolving soon as well Smile

That damn nerve is going to be the death of me!! Second visit to the Doc (my regular doc this time) and he still says a pinched nerve. My back is much better but the pain in my right groin can have me climbing the walls. It is mostly when I sit and the drive to work is an hour and 10 or so. By then I am ready to take all the pain pills in the bottle. Actually I feel like running as walking doesn't seem to make it worse. But doc says not rigth now. I reminded him that training starts on the 26th and I BETTER be ready by then. He seemedto think that would not be a problem
