Improving Your 5K

new mile PR (Read 589 times)

Ran a mile time trial at my track club's workout last night. My previous PR was 6:25, set in May. I usually get nervous about running mile time trials, but last night I was very relaxed and laid back. I figured I'd just try to go faster than 6:25, and see how I did. I planned to run the first lap in 1:30 and see where that took me. So my splits, as far as I can remember, were 1:30 1:33 1:40 1:28 I was pretty happy with the results. We then did a workout of 8x400 at the same pace as the mile. All of my 400s fell in the 1:28-1:31 range. It was a satisfying workout. So anyway, plugging my new mile time into running calculators makes me feel good about my ability to go under 22 in the 5k, which I haven't been able to do since 2004. I really can't wait to see what that feels like!

      Congratulations. And fast finish.

It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.
